Melanie’s point of view

I couldn’t stop thinking about last night as I woke up the next day. The flashbacks kept creeping in like a slow poison, invading every second of silence. My skin prickled at the memory of Dante’s voice in my ear, his breath hot against my face, the way he pressed between my thighs like he was daring me to beg.

God, just remembering how close he was, how he touched me made my body went stiff. I wanted to scrub my brain clean. Maybe with bleach. Or a lobotomy. Either would work.

To keep myself sane, I stayed locked up in my room and I finally decided to unpack the rest of my things. Anything to keep my hands busy and my mind from drifting back to Dante’s chain tangled in my hair or how stupidly loud I moaned.

I shuffled to a box I hadn’t touched since we arrived and opened it.

Art supplies.

I groaned out loud. “Really, Mom?”

There were Tubes of paint, unused canvases, a sketchbook I hadn’t opened in years. She must’ve packed it behind my back. I hadn’t t

  • WANTING MY STEP—BROTHER    Chapter 17

Melanie’s point of view The drive was quiet, Leonardo didn’t say much and I didn’t mind. We eventually pulled into an underground parking lot. He turned off the ignition, then glanced at me. “Stay in the car. I’ll be right back.” I didn’t argue. Just nodded, watching him disappear into the shadowy corridor at the far end of the lot. When he finally returned, he was carrying a small parcel, nothing flashy, but it looked… important. I didn’t ask. Didn’t even raise a brow. I knew that the parcel held something secret and it was better for me not to prey. I watched as he tossed it in the back seat without a word, then slid in beside me and started the engine. “Let’s go get ice cream,” he said, as if this was a normal afternoon and not some covert errand. “My treat for not looking for you properly when you vanished yesterday.” I stared at him, my lips parting with the urge to tell him it wasn’t necessary but I caught myself. This was my chance. The perfect opening to pop the que

Melanie’s point of view I looked at Dante, and my stomach twisted not from fear or even anger. But from embarrassment. “If this is about yesterday,” I started, “I just want you to know I have no—” “I want to move the time of your little departure,” he snapped, cutting me off coldly. I blinked, looking at him. “What?” “I want you and your mother out of this house ,” he said, with a razor-sharp tone. “Right after my father throws his shitty little party.” He stepped closer, his hands tucked into the pockets of his jeans, “This would hurt Federico even more and there’s nothing I desire more than that.” “You’re seriously using me just to hurt Federico?” My voice rose, more shocked than angry. “Do what I want and stop asking me shitty questions,” “This is about your mom, isn’t it? You can’t keep punishing him for something that wasn’t his fault.” His face twisted, fury flashing in his eyes. “Don’t talk about her. You don’t get to talk about my mother.” “I’m just saying—” “Don

Melanie pov I turned to run. My entire body screamed ‘get out’, but I didn’t even make it two steps before I stepped on the glass Dante had smashed on the floor. Pain exploded up my leg as shards stabbed into the soles of my feet piercing my skin. I crumpled down, hissing, my hand flying to my thigh. “Fuck—” I gasped, feeling blood drip from my feet. The back door slammed open, and I saw a figure step into the darkness. It was hard for me to see who it was but I managed to make out the outline of the broad shoulders. It had to be a man…but I knew it wasn’t just any man it was Dario. I didn’t know what to do at that point, running didn’t seem like an option especially when my feet was in a very bad condition. At this point, I knew that I was about to meet my end. Although, as I thought about it, I didn’t really feel that bad. Maybe, this was meant to happen. I had to experience death to atone for all the people I had killed. This was karma. I let out a breath, I didn’t know

Melanie “A date?” I repeated, my voice shrill with shock. Leonardo’s eyes went wide. He stepped back like I’d just slapped him. “No! No, no. Not a date-date,” he said quickly, waving his hands around. He looked so tense, I thought he might pass out. “I meant… you know… like… a bar hangout. A bar… date… not a real date.” I stared at him. “I’m just saying—” he kept rambling, his voice almost cracking, “you haven’t really gone out since you got here, and I thought maybe you’d like to hang out with me and my friends. That’s all.” I tilted my head, studying him. He looked like a puppy that had just pissed on the carpet and was waiting to get scolded. I felt bad for him and apart from that this hangout would also be a good thing. It will help me push away all the thoughts about Dante and remember that he is nothing but a shitty person. After a moment, I sighed and forced a small smile. “Fine. Sure. A bar… hangout.” His shoulders visibly dropped. Relief washed over his face

  • WANTING MY STEP—BROTHER    Chapter 12

Melanie My eyes widened as I saw two shadows slip into the room. The door didn’t close all the way. It was opened just enough for me to see, the figures moving around the room until they got close where I was standing. At first, there was silence then the kisses picked up again. It was loud. The kind that sounded like two people were trying to suck each other’s faces off. I froze. My spine straightened and all I could think of was; What the hell was going on. The smacking sounds got deafening , echoing like thunder off the walls. I stepped back, hiding by the corner of his wardrobe. I didn’t mean to spy. Seriously. But my body refused to move. I wondered who the girl was. It had to be. Uriela or could it be a new fling. “Fuck…” I heard Dante’s Deep. Rough. and Dangerous voice. My breath paused. Then I inched closer, trying to get a better view of him. When I finally sighted him my eyes widened as I watched the scene play out. He threw the girl on the bed like she was a
