MasukRosa's Pov.
The faster the cab moved, the more fearful I became about the fact that we were out of time.
“Can you hurry up?” I asked, my legs tapping impatiently on the car floor.
“I'm going as fast as I can, ma, any more than this, and we'll be heading for our deaths,” he said, and I tried to cool down.
He stopped by the shore, and I stared at the water, looking for any signs of him, but I didn't see him.
Then my eyes caught a Lamborghini, and I needed no one to tell me that he was in it.
“Ma, can I ask why we're here…ma,” he yelled as I jumped in.
Luckily for me, I am a pro diver, so it wasn't hard for me to hold my breath under the water.
I swarmed towards the car, opening it and seeing him inside. I fought with his seat belt, and only after a few tries did it unhook.
Carrying him up was another problem I had to deal with, and I tried so much to stop him from drowning me.
We finally got to the shore, and I breathed out happily, seeing that the taxi driver was still there.
“Ma!!” he called, helping me carry him and placing him down neatly on the sand.
I placed my arms on his chest, giving him CPR as I tried to revive him, but it wasn't working.
“Please, please, please,” I begged, pressing his chest harder, and suddenly he barfed up water, coughing violently.
I stared at him as he opened his eyes rather slowly.
“Am I in heaven?” He asked, and I frowned, hitting him on his arm.
“Shut the hell up, asshole, you're still on earth,” I growled, and his eyes fell on me.
He stared down at my wet body, and it was then that I noticed that my clothes were sticking to my body, revealing my bra line.
“Take your eyes off, pervert,” I snapped, covering myself with my arms, and he looked away.
“You saved me?” he asked, and I rolled my eyes.
“Obviously,” I mumbled, glaring at him even though he wasn't looking in my direction.
“Why? You should have just left me to die,” he told me, and I felt anger course through my veins.
“Left you to die? I jumped into a fùcking lagoon because of you, I might die from hypothermia, and you can't even say thank you?” I asked, feeling the urge to slap him wildly.
He frowned and turned to me.
“I didn't ask you to fùvking save me, okay!? I wanted to die, don't I have the right to do that also?” He asked me, and I couldn't control him anymore; I felt my hand flying as it met with his face in a slap.
“That serves you, right, you ungrateful human! I should have left you to die after all,” I yelled to his face, and he said nothing as I stood up, heading to the taxi.
The taxi man sat in the driver's seat, and he used the front mirror to stare at me.
“Are you okay, ma?” He asked, and I nodded, sighing.
“Take me to Groove Street, I don't think I can go to the office like this,” I mumbled, and he nodded.
He drove me straight to my house, and I couldn't help but pay him with lots of tips. He thanked me before zooming off, and I walked in, meeting Quinn in the living room, eating popcorn.
She turned on the door opening, and her eyes widened on seeing me.
“Rosa, what in fuck sake happened to you?” She asked me, and I sighed, wanting to fall on the sofa, and she stopped me.
“Don't even think of ruining them with your drenched body,” she said seriously, and I frowned.
Again, with the elder sister attitude.
“But I'm tired.”
“Then off your clothes and have your bath,” she ordered, and I rolled my eyes.
“Okay, mum,” I teased with a sneer, rushing to my room.
I had been living with her since my aunt chased me away, and she had treated me more like a sister than a housemate, which must be because she's alone in this world, after losing her parents to an accident on the same day.
I came down, wearing a sweater over a jumpsuit, and I still felt cold and hugged myself, shivering as I sat down on the couch.
Quinn noticed and picked up a blanket, covering me, and I smiled.
“Thanks”
“Don't thank me until you tell me what happened. Did you jump into a lake or something?” She asked, and I chuckled.
“More like I jumped into a lagoon.”
I turned to look at her, but she was staring at me seriously, and I stopped smiling.
“I'm serious.”
“I'm serious too,” I told her, and she facepalmed.
“Are you out of your mind? You jumped into a lagoon?” She yelled, and I recoiled as I saw the scolding in advance.
“I was trying to save Andres,” I whispered, but that didn't stop her from glaring at me.
“So because of a man, you placed your life in danger?” She asked, and I frowned.
“He's not just a man, he's my boss,” I whined, and she gritted her teeth.
“Does that make him less of a man and more of a woman?” She asked me, and I blinked.
“Are you trying to be a feminist here?” I asked with a gasp, and I groaned.
“No, I am trying to tell you that, next time, you do not have to sacrifice yourself for a man.”
“So, I can do so for a woman?” I asked, confused.
“No! Don't do that either!” She yelled, and I nodded like an obedient puppy.
“Or do you like him?” She asked me with a suspicious eyebrow, and I rolled my eyes.
“If I told you I did, wouldn't you be scared?” I asked her, and she thought for a while before nodding.
“Yeah, I'd probably think that he has gotten you under his witchy gaze,” she said, and we both laughed.
“But don't do that again, okay? What if you had died with him? How would I live?” She asked dramatically, and I thought for a while before answering.
“You'll be happy because nobody will disturb you again,” I said, and she nodded.
“You're probably right,” She answered, and I laughed.
“Did you do it?”
“Do what?” I asked, and soon realization hit me: the microchip!
“Oh no, I totally forgot,” I groaned, falling flat on the couch.
“Your one chance and you ruined it,” she said with a frown, hitting me with a pillow, and I sighed.
“I'll get him next time,” I said, more to myself than her.
I must get him next time.
Rosa's POVI woke that morning, feeling very lazy, and it was a Monday morning. I was home alone. Quinn had travelled for three days for an I.T training. “Alright, let’s see what this chip has given us so far,” I said, scrolling through the files on my laptop. “It’s not flooded yet, but it’s steady. Gary is definitely hiding things. Big things for that matter. These transfers don’t make sense. And these late-night meetings? Something’s off.”I leaned back on the couch and sighed. “I should feel moved about this. We’re moving in the right direction. Why do I feel so… restless?”I picked up my phone and called Quinn.“Hey Q,” I said in a toddler tone.“Rosa! Finally. I’ve been waiting. How did the data look this past weekend?” she asked.“Pretty solid, actually. I’ve gone through everything the chip sent. It’s confirming what we suspected. Gary’s hiding a lot. There are encrypted folders he keeps opening, weird offshore movements, and meetings that aren’t on any official calendar. It’s
Andres's POV“Monday morning and I’m already on edge,” I muttered, gripping the steering wheel. “The medicine took forever to settle this weekend. It kept me staring at the ceiling for hours. And Billy’s words keep replaying… ‘Talk to her. You deserve something good.’ Talk to her? How? I’ve been turning that over for two days straight, and I’m still stuck.”I parked the car and headed inside the building. “Just breathe. Get through the day. One step at a time.”Jefferson was waiting near my office. “Morning, boss. You good? You look like the weekend kicked your ass.”“Morning, Jeff. Rough weekend, yeah. The medication settled more slowly than usual. What’s the latest on Meridian?” I asked, dropping into my chair.Jefferson sat across from me. “Update looks really clean and strong. Projections are up, client feedback is positive, and the risk section is tighter than last week. We’re in a good spot.”“That’s solid news. Walk me through the numbers again,” I said.“Revenue forecast is lo
Andres's POV“Shit… slow down, just slow down,” I breathed hard, sitting on the edge of the bed, gripping my knees so tight. “Why today? Come on… breathe with me. One… two… three… four. In… hold it… out slowly. I’m trying. I’m really trying here.”My arms kept shaking. I rocked forward a little, jaw locked. “Okay… okay, deeper breaths. One… two… three… four. You’re not falling apart. You’ve done this a hundred times. Just pass already, please. I need to get to work. Nobody can see me like this.”I exhaled shakily, flexing my fingers. “There… yeah, it’s easing up. Good. You’re alright, Andres. You’re fine. Get up. Put your shirt on. Tie straight. Look like the guy who just closed the Creston deal with his team. Nobody knows about your secret. They will never know.”“Morning, Jeff. Come in, close the door,” I said as Jefferson stepped inside.“Morning, boss. You got a minute?” he asked.“Always for you. Sit down. What’s going on?” I replied.Jefferson leaned forward. “Meridian proposal
Rosa's POV“Rosa, there you are. I’ve been looking for you,” Gary said, his voice smooth as he stepped closer to me near the elevator. “Everyone’s gone home already. Perfect timing.”I tilted my head slightly toward him, smiling softly. “Gary. You always seem to appear when things get quiet. What’s on your mind?”He chuckled, standing just close enough that I could smell his cologne. “You. All evening, I couldn’t stop thinking about how everyone was talking about how incredible you were. And at the celebration… that laugh of yours? Dangerous.”“Dangerous?” I asked, letting a light laugh escape as I looked up at him. “I was just celebrating the win with everyone. You seemed to be enjoying yourself, too.”“Oh, I was. But mostly I was enjoying watching you,” he replied, his tone dropping playfully. “You light up a room, Rosa. I meant what I said earlier. You and I should have dinner. Just us, you know ...Good food, better conversation. What do you say?”I pretended to think about it, bit
Andres's POV“Boss, we did it! Creston actually signed!” Jefferson called out, raising his glass high across the room.I stood at the edge with my barely touched drink, letting the warmth of the win settle in. “Yeah, we did. The team worked their asses off. Feels good, doesn’t it?”“Feels amazing!” Sarah from finance laughed. “Open bar tonight? My tab is on the company, right?”“Everything’s on the company tonight,” I replied, smiling slightly. “Drink up. We earned this.”The team was looser than they’d been in months. Laughter bounced off the walls. Someone turned the music up a notch. I let myself enjoy the moment, watching everyone relax for once. Then Gary walked in.“Parties already started without me?” Gary announced with that easy, perfect smile, sliding through the crowd like he owned the place. “Andres, my man! Congratulations on landing Creston. Hell of a win.”“Gary,” I said. “Didn’t know you were coming by.”“Couldn’t miss celebrating with the team. You know me.” Gary wink
Rosa's POV“Miss Morales, you remind me so much of my daughter. Same fire in the eyes, same way of cutting through the nonsense,” Mr. Creston said, shaking my hand firmly.I smiled warmly, squeezing his hand back. “Thank you, sir. That means a lot coming from you. I’m really glad we could find common ground today.”“You’ve got a good head on your shoulders. Not many young people do these days. Keep that up, and you’ll go far,” he replied, nodding with approval.“I’ll do my best. Thank you again for trusting us with this,” I said softly. The moment the door closed behind him, I let the smile drop completely. I started gathering my files and notes when Andres’s voice came from across the table.“Good work.”I looked up and found him already staring at me. For a second, neither of us moved. The air felt thick, heavy with everything we weren’t saying. I held his gaze, my heart beating a little faster.“Thank you, sir,” I said quietly, breaking the moment. I looked back down at my papers.
Andres's POVI leaned against my desk, arms crossed, repeating the same line in my head like a damn mantra. She’s the most qualified, that’s all. Nothing more.Jefferson walked in holding a fresh cup of coffee, eyebrows already raised like he could smell the bullshit from a mile away.“Andres, you
Rosa's POV“Give me my damn phone right now, Andres. I didn’t come here for anything else.”Andres leaned back in his chair, arms folded tight across his chest, eyes drilling into me like he could see every secret in me. “Then explain why Quinn is saved under just one letter. One single letter, Ros
Rosa's POVI was halfway down the second-floor corridor when Quinn's call came in.I picked up before the second ring. "What?""Found your phone."I stopped walking. "What do you mean you found it?""I mean, I found it." Her fingers were already moving fast in the background; I could hear them. "I
Andres's POV"She's suspicious."Jefferson didn't even look up. "You've said that four times today, boss.""Because that's the truth."I stood from my desk and walked to the window. The city below was moving the way it always did, busy and completely normal, completely indifferent to the fact that
