LOGINRosa's Pov.
I went to sleep that night hating Andres, and it only got worse when I found out that I had lost my phone at the lagoon.
I had a warm bath that night, and all through, I couldn't get my mind off the fact that he literally rebuked me for saving his ass.
“Proud brat,” I sneered, before falling asleep that night.
Waking up late the next morning due to no alarm being set on a phone, I had taken my bath and dressed up only to feel nauseous.
“Is something bad about to happen?” I asked, but dismissed the thought, especially since I was no fortune teller.
“Are you going now?” Quinn asked from the sofa as I descended the stairs, and I nodded.
“Gosh, I miss you so much whenever you're not around. I hate being lonely,” she told me with a frown, and I smiled.
“Then get yourself a job, it is that easy.”
“Are you mocking me?” She asked, and I shrugged.
Quinn can't have a job; she spends most of her time with the computer, helping me one way or another.
It is partly my fault.
“I never will. Can you lend me one of your phones? I lost mine,” I told her, and she rolled her eyes, handing it over to me while I smiled.
“Thanks, you're the best,” I said, blowing her kisses before walking out.
I synced my contact with her phone immediately and sent Morgan a message that she should use this line to reach me for now.
I hailed a taxi nearly immediately and told it where I was going.
I was already behind schedule because of the fact that I overslept after a warm bath, but it seemed as if I wouldn't make it in time as we encountered traffic on the way.
“What happened in front?” I asked the driver, who shrugged at first, but then turned off the engine and came down, walking to the front, only to come back with a frown.
“A tanker had an accident over at the front, and it's causing a major blockage, though there are people there already clearing up the place; it would take a while,” he told me, and I groaned.
Almost immediately, I got a text from Morgan and opened it with difficulty.
‘Okay, where are you? Boss Andres ordered a meeting twenty minutes ago!’
I gulped before typing ‘I'm at a traffic jam, not sure I can make it in time, I'm sorry.’
I held the phone for a while before pressing send, then I turned it off. There is no way I want messages flooding in.
After an hour or so, the road cleared up, and the driver raced with full speed to the company, but I knew that we were already late.
I paid and thanked him, rushing it as I tried so much to ignore the averted gaze that fell on me.
‘What is she doing here?’
‘Is she just coming?’
‘Boss Andres wouldn't like that.’
‘I know she's definitely getting sacked.’
“I'm the one who saved your stupid boss from killing himself, idiots,” I sneered under my breath, pressing the button of the elevator, only for it to open with Morgan standing in.
“Rosaura, why are you just coming? I've been calling and…”
“No time to explain, where is the meeting hall?” I asked her breathlessly, and she sighed.
“The first floor, but if I were you, I wouldn't go now, Boss Andres is already in a bad mood, your presence might…”
“Thanks,” I told her hurriedly, tapping on the elevator button as it closed up and began highlighting.
I tapped repeatedly on the floorboard, unable to hide my restlessness.
The elevator opened, and I practically ran out, rushing to the hall and opening the door only to meet Andres in the middle of his sentence.
“..WE ARE LOSING OUR STOCKS, AND NONE OF YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF A WAY F…” He paused, turning and acknowledging my presence.
The hall was filled with different faces, all staring at me, but the only ones I recognized were Brian and Denzel. I could see the fear in their eyes. Were they scared for me?
“Why are you just coming?” Andres asked me in a calm voice that sounded rather devilish, why am I scared? No, I can't be frightened by this man in baby form; it's not possible.
“I was stuck in a traffic jam,” I told him, suddenly feeling more confident, but the look in his eyes seemed to reduce that bit by bit.
“Your normal resumption time is 8:00, time is 10:30, were you stuck in a two-hour jam?” He asked me, and I gripped hold of my bag.
“I overslept, sir.” I expected him to understand, since I nearly fell sick yesterday, but instead, he chuckled.
“So, if the meeting was of great importance and your presence was needed urgently, what would you tell me? That you overslept?” He asked me, and I avoided his eyes.
Why were they raging fire?
“I think you should understand, sir,” I mumbled slightly, feeling uncomfortable as his gaze burned through my clothes into my skin.
“Understand what? Understand that you are very unfit for your job? You just started working, and you feel so comfortable oversleeping,” He told me, and I frowned.
Why is he blaming me for a natural course in nature?
“You can't blame me, Sir, I am human, and it happens most times,” I said, suddenly feeling angry. Why am I allowing myself to be questioned by this man?
“Oh, then everybody here except you is an animal, because they all missed their sleep, they are not humans,” He asked, and I could see that some of them were trying to hide their laughter.
I knew arguing with him was pointless, so I looked for an empty seat and, on finding one, sat down and placed my bag on the table. All eyes were on me.
“Please proceed with the meeting, sir,” I told him calmly, after I noticed that everywhere seemed quiet and I felt his steps come closer.
He placed his arm on the top of my chair and said,
“You're fired.”
Maybe he had expected a response from me, maybe crying and begging him, but I did none of that sort. Instead, I gave him a simple reply.
“Okay, can we at least finish with the meeting first?” I asked him, and the people gasped in surprise.
“Are you deaf? I said, "You're fired, I know, I know, the so-called important meeting?” I asked him, and he gritted his teeth in anger.
“If you are trying to act nonchalantly cool, then you're doing a bad job,” he told me, and I smiled.
“I'm not sure about that, sir.”
“Get the fùvk out of my company, or else I'll….”
“You'll what?” A voice came, and I turned to see Gary, standing by the door and staring at us.
I felt disgusted immediately, but controlled myself and forced a smile.
“I know you're taking her side, Gary,” Andres said, staring at him with eyes that are now suddenly quiet.
“I am, brother, and there is nothing you can do about it.”
Rosa's POVI woke that morning, feeling very lazy, and it was a Monday morning. I was home alone. Quinn had travelled for three days for an I.T training. “Alright, let’s see what this chip has given us so far,” I said, scrolling through the files on my laptop. “It’s not flooded yet, but it’s steady. Gary is definitely hiding things. Big things for that matter. These transfers don’t make sense. And these late-night meetings? Something’s off.”I leaned back on the couch and sighed. “I should feel moved about this. We’re moving in the right direction. Why do I feel so… restless?”I picked up my phone and called Quinn.“Hey Q,” I said in a toddler tone.“Rosa! Finally. I’ve been waiting. How did the data look this past weekend?” she asked.“Pretty solid, actually. I’ve gone through everything the chip sent. It’s confirming what we suspected. Gary’s hiding a lot. There are encrypted folders he keeps opening, weird offshore movements, and meetings that aren’t on any official calendar. It’s
Andres's POV“Monday morning and I’m already on edge,” I muttered, gripping the steering wheel. “The medicine took forever to settle this weekend. It kept me staring at the ceiling for hours. And Billy’s words keep replaying… ‘Talk to her. You deserve something good.’ Talk to her? How? I’ve been turning that over for two days straight, and I’m still stuck.”I parked the car and headed inside the building. “Just breathe. Get through the day. One step at a time.”Jefferson was waiting near my office. “Morning, boss. You good? You look like the weekend kicked your ass.”“Morning, Jeff. Rough weekend, yeah. The medication settled more slowly than usual. What’s the latest on Meridian?” I asked, dropping into my chair.Jefferson sat across from me. “Update looks really clean and strong. Projections are up, client feedback is positive, and the risk section is tighter than last week. We’re in a good spot.”“That’s solid news. Walk me through the numbers again,” I said.“Revenue forecast is lo
Andres's POV“Shit… slow down, just slow down,” I breathed hard, sitting on the edge of the bed, gripping my knees so tight. “Why today? Come on… breathe with me. One… two… three… four. In… hold it… out slowly. I’m trying. I’m really trying here.”My arms kept shaking. I rocked forward a little, jaw locked. “Okay… okay, deeper breaths. One… two… three… four. You’re not falling apart. You’ve done this a hundred times. Just pass already, please. I need to get to work. Nobody can see me like this.”I exhaled shakily, flexing my fingers. “There… yeah, it’s easing up. Good. You’re alright, Andres. You’re fine. Get up. Put your shirt on. Tie straight. Look like the guy who just closed the Creston deal with his team. Nobody knows about your secret. They will never know.”“Morning, Jeff. Come in, close the door,” I said as Jefferson stepped inside.“Morning, boss. You got a minute?” he asked.“Always for you. Sit down. What’s going on?” I replied.Jefferson leaned forward. “Meridian proposal
Rosa's POV“Rosa, there you are. I’ve been looking for you,” Gary said, his voice smooth as he stepped closer to me near the elevator. “Everyone’s gone home already. Perfect timing.”I tilted my head slightly toward him, smiling softly. “Gary. You always seem to appear when things get quiet. What’s on your mind?”He chuckled, standing just close enough that I could smell his cologne. “You. All evening, I couldn’t stop thinking about how everyone was talking about how incredible you were. And at the celebration… that laugh of yours? Dangerous.”“Dangerous?” I asked, letting a light laugh escape as I looked up at him. “I was just celebrating the win with everyone. You seemed to be enjoying yourself, too.”“Oh, I was. But mostly I was enjoying watching you,” he replied, his tone dropping playfully. “You light up a room, Rosa. I meant what I said earlier. You and I should have dinner. Just us, you know ...Good food, better conversation. What do you say?”I pretended to think about it, bit
Andres's POV“Boss, we did it! Creston actually signed!” Jefferson called out, raising his glass high across the room.I stood at the edge with my barely touched drink, letting the warmth of the win settle in. “Yeah, we did. The team worked their asses off. Feels good, doesn’t it?”“Feels amazing!” Sarah from finance laughed. “Open bar tonight? My tab is on the company, right?”“Everything’s on the company tonight,” I replied, smiling slightly. “Drink up. We earned this.”The team was looser than they’d been in months. Laughter bounced off the walls. Someone turned the music up a notch. I let myself enjoy the moment, watching everyone relax for once. Then Gary walked in.“Parties already started without me?” Gary announced with that easy, perfect smile, sliding through the crowd like he owned the place. “Andres, my man! Congratulations on landing Creston. Hell of a win.”“Gary,” I said. “Didn’t know you were coming by.”“Couldn’t miss celebrating with the team. You know me.” Gary wink
Rosa's POV“Miss Morales, you remind me so much of my daughter. Same fire in the eyes, same way of cutting through the nonsense,” Mr. Creston said, shaking my hand firmly.I smiled warmly, squeezing his hand back. “Thank you, sir. That means a lot coming from you. I’m really glad we could find common ground today.”“You’ve got a good head on your shoulders. Not many young people do these days. Keep that up, and you’ll go far,” he replied, nodding with approval.“I’ll do my best. Thank you again for trusting us with this,” I said softly. The moment the door closed behind him, I let the smile drop completely. I started gathering my files and notes when Andres’s voice came from across the table.“Good work.”I looked up and found him already staring at me. For a second, neither of us moved. The air felt thick, heavy with everything we weren’t saying. I held his gaze, my heart beating a little faster.“Thank you, sir,” I said quietly, breaking the moment. I looked back down at my papers.
Rosa's POVI was halfway down the second-floor corridor when Quinn's call came in.I picked up before the second ring. "What?""Found your phone."I stopped walking. "What do you mean you found it?""I mean, I found it." Her fingers were already moving fast in the background; I could hear them. "I
Andres's POV"She's suspicious."Jefferson didn't even look up. "You've said that four times today, boss.""Because that's the truth."I stood from my desk and walked to the window. The city below was moving the way it always did, busy and completely normal, completely indifferent to the fact that
Andres's POVI leaned against my desk, arms crossed, repeating the same line in my head like a damn mantra. She’s the most qualified, that’s all. Nothing more.Jefferson walked in holding a fresh cup of coffee, eyebrows already raised like he could smell the bullshit from a mile away.“Andres, you
Rosa's POV“Give me my damn phone right now, Andres. I didn’t come here for anything else.”Andres leaned back in his chair, arms folded tight across his chest, eyes drilling into me like he could see every secret in me. “Then explain why Quinn is saved under just one letter. One single letter, Ros
