CHAPTER 6: BLOOD SERVANT

Elijah felt a sudden gust of wind inside his house. He didn’t pay much attention to it until someone tried to attack him. He was faster and didn’t break a sweat, catching the culprit by the neck.

He grinned upon seeing his blood servant grinning at him despite being strangled. The younger vampire, in the body of a rather skinny teenager, struggled with his strong hold. Elijah is starting to regret saving the child.

"Who told you to sneak up on me?" His eyes glimmered in the dark. The sun is still up, and any sun seeping inside is dangerous for vampires that can’t withstand the sun.

The younger vampire hissed, "And who told you to go after her when you said she was a hunter in this life?" Allen complained as his master let go of him. His eyes were still glowing in anger, not because of the pain but because of his master's being careless for the nth time.

Elijah clicked his tongue, "Aren’t I the master here? Why are you the one scolding me? " He complained and sat on the couch. His eyes quickly adjusted to the dark.

"It’s because you’re a dumb master. A lunch date with that woman, are you crazy?" He was frantic, but he couldn’t stop his master because the sun was still up and the vampire could easily get away when he wanted to.

"I'm alive," he said, pointing to his fingers, "and no limbs have been taken from me. Calm down." He pointed it out and crossed his arms.

Allen heaved a sigh and sat beside his master. "That woman took your soul, which is why you’ve been a vampire for almost a millennium. This is your last chance to be free, and we shall never be complacent."

Elijah laughed loudly. He knows perfectly well that the younger vampire is just worried about him. He saved the child around 200 years ago and has been sticking with him ever since. Elijah had already said that he could go away from him, and that he didn’t need to pay for saving his life, but Allen still chose to stay.

"You’re pretty excited to see me die. Are you that tired of me?" He laughed again. Allen groaned in response. He really hates it when Elijah teases him.

He let out a defeated sigh. "I don’t want you to die, and if I were given a choice, I would never want to see you die. But it is what you wanted to do. You want to pass on as a human. That is why it is so dumb to reveal yourself to that hunter." Elijah visibly flinched with his last words, just when he thought the boy had already forgotten about Alice.

"There was something different about her." Elijah mumbled, confusion in his voice was evident. He didn't put much care in the past, but Alice... she was different from all of her past lives.

Allen’s forehead crumpled. "She looked the same to me. Regardless of gender or nationality, the dominant features are still the same. It's that monster that cursed you. So, what was the difference?"

The vampires had been waiting for her to be reborn again, knowing that it would be the last time she would ever be reborn. He had already killed 19 versions of the original woman who stole his soul, along with a promise of giving it back if he could kill her for the twentieth time. That's all he remembers; everything else was a blur, but he did what he was told because he wanted to reclaim his humanity no matter what. He suffered enough. Elijah just wanted to rest and achieve peace.

"It's not her face... It's something else." He couldn’t figure it out, but he felt pain when they locked gazes. He never expected that he’d see her this early, considering that the last one he killed was thirty years ago, nor that the woman would be a vampire hunter.

Allen’s eyes squinted this time. He was very confused about what his master was talking about, and he couldn’t really think straight because he was hungry.

Elijah quickly noticed that he was uncomfortable and rolled up his sleeves. "If you’re hungry, then you should have told me." He grinned, teasing Allen again because he didn’t know how to answer his question.

The younger vampire avoided his master’s eyes, but they had been together for a long time. Elijah knew that he was at his limit.

"Those damn vampire hunters. I can’t even go out without them appearing out of nowhere. " He complained. Elijah saw his fangs protruding out of his will.

He shook his head, not minding his blood servant’s complaints.

"Just drink from me in the meantime. After this is over, we’ll move away to a more peaceful country. I’ll die shortly, and you won’t have to be bothered with your problematic, stubborn, and impatient master. Seems fair?" He offered his wrist casually, just waiting for Allen to lower his pride and accept it.

Allen’s breath hitched, "But you’re barely feeding too." The familiar pain that occurs whenever he tries to defer feeding started to course through his body, starting from his throat and going down to his chest.

"First of all, you’re not in the position to tell someone how they should take care of themselves when you're in this miserable condition. Second, I’m your master. I really am supposed to take care of my servants." Allen couldn’t clearly understand his master’s words anymore. He gave in before his instincts fully took over. By experience, him being out of control isn’t pretty.

The vampire didn’t even flinch when Allen roughly sank his fangs into his skin. He could feel his urgency and hunger. Allen’s grip on his hand was starting to get painful as well, nearly crushing his bones, but Elijah kept himself still and let his servant feed. Allen did have a huge problem controlling his thirst in the past, and this attitude of his was already a toned-down version of what he was in the past.

"Was that enough?" Elijah asked after Allen quickly withdrew.

It took a moment for Allen to answer. He licked the remaining blood from his lips and finally spoke, "I shouldn’t be taking more." He stood and walked near the window that was covered in thick black curtains. He opened the curtains a bit and checked if the sunlight could still burn his skin.

His skin smoked a bit, but the pain was already bearable.

"You can already withstand that much sunlight? A few more years, and you can already walk under the sun without problem. That’ll be a great thing to see before I die."

Allen glared at him again, "Can you stop saying that you are dying? I’m not really excited about that."

With that, the blood servant vanished into thin air. Elijah clicked his tongue, feeling like he had been fooled for some reason.

"Look at that kid lecturing me about going out without permission."
