Sonia's POV

I smiled as I baked the cake with excitement. Today is a special day for me. It's my wedding anniversary with my husband, Ethan. But this year was special, there was something even more precious to be celebrated.

I'm pregnant and the thought of it makes my stomach swell with joy. After my miscarriage last two years, I hadn't gotten pregnant since then. I was shocked when the doctor handed me the result and told me that I was pregnant. I couldn't contain my joy as I screamed with excitement.

I'm planning to surprise Ethan with my pregnancy result tonight even though Things haven't been going well between us for a while now but I can't wait to see his reaction, to watch his face light up when I told him the news.

I spent the entire day preparing as the kitchen buzzed with the aroma of his favorite dishes.

The table was set, Everything was perfect and My hands trembled slightly as I placed the final touches, imagining the surprise and happiness in his eyes when he walked through that door.

I decided to call my husband to come home early so that we can celebrate together and to also share the good news with him but he wasn't responding

"Maybe he's still busy with work." I thought within.

The hours ticked by slowly, each minute stretching into an eternity as I waited. The anticipation that had once bubbled inside me started to feel heavy. I glanced at the clock, hoping each time that he would walk in, greet me with his familiar smile, and we celebrate together. But the house remained quiet, the only sound being the ticking of the clock.

When the door finally opened, relief washed over me, "Welcome, honey." I ran to welcome him with a smile but it was short-lived.

Ethan slightly pushed me aside, his face devoid of any emotion, his eyes cold and distant and I felt my heart skip a beat.

"Are you alright? Did something happen at the office?" My heart was heavy with worries but he ignored me and I watched in confusion as he walked past me, his gaze piercing through me like I was a stranger.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, my voice trembling slightly as I followed him to the living room.

"I have something to tell you," he said coldly, placing a paper in front of me, the paper I hadn't noticed that he was holding.

I gasped, My heart raced as I read the title: Divorce agreement.

"What's this?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

“What does it look like?” he spat, his voice devoid of any emotions.

"Uhm... I... I... Know that this is....a..."

I was cut shut by Ethan who blurted out, "I want a divorce!"

Divorce! My heart dances madly in fear as a cold sweat ran down my smile.

No! No! No! This is not happening. Not tonight, not on our anniversary. I knew our marriage hadn't been perfect for the past three years but I wasn't expecting this, not now that God has answered my prayers and blessed me with another pregnancy.

I looked up at him, searching his face for any sign that this was some terrible mistake, or perhaps, he was joking but all I saw was cold indifference.

My whole body trembled as I stared at the papers that my husband placed before me.

Is he serious?

“What! Ethan… why?” My voice cracked, tears welled up in my eyes. "I knew that things hadn't been going well between us but I think we can still work things out."

"It's too late." he whispered, massaging his temple, "Celine is back." He blurted out and my heart leaped to my throat. Hearing that name sent a chill into my heart.

"Celine is back? For what?" I asked in disbelief, my heart heavy with pain as tears forced to come out of my eyes.

"Are you seriously asking me that right now?" he questioned coldly, "Celine is the only woman I love and you know it but you manipulate my mother and force yourself into my life by trapping me with pregnancy. You made my mother threaten me with my inheritance just so I could marry you! Do you know what that made me feel? Living with you for the past three years has been a hell for me." he thundered through gritted teeth, shattering my heart into pieces.

His words pierced my heart like a thousand pins, breaking it into a million fragments without repair. I looked at him with tears of heartbreak streaming down my cheeks.

I never manipulated Ma'am Lucy for me to marry him. She was the one who asked me to marry him when she found out that I was pregnant with Ethan's child.

How could he say this? I did my best just to please him. I have been a loving and caring wife to him for the past three years, why would he do this to me? What did I do wrong?

I clutched my chest which was burning with pain as breathing became difficult for me.

He has been asking for a divorce ever since his mother, Madam Lucy died a few months ago but I never knew he was serious. I was ready to do anything to have him, to make our marriage work.

He can't possibly throw all our three years together because Celine is back.

"I..I.. I love you, Ethan. Please, don't do this to me." I choked on my words.

"You are aware, I don't love you. My mother is dead now and Celine, my true love, the person whose position you stole is back so, I don't see any reason why I should keep you here."

His words were like a punch to the gut. My heart clenched with pain as pathetic tears of heartbreak slipped down my face.

I can never believe this... I never thought that a day like this would come, not even when it was obvious that he didn't love me as much as I loved him. I have been hoping that one day, he would see how much I genuinely love him and he would love me back.

No, I can't allow this to happen, there must be a way out. I sniffed my tears as I raised my gaze at him with my teary eyes.

"Plea... Please, don't do this to me. I love you and I have something very important to tell you." I choked on my words as tears streamed down my cheeks, hoping he might change his mind if he knew that I was pregnant.

"Keep whatever you want to tell me to yourself, I'm not interested. I have to get back to the office," his cold voice broke my heart into pieces.

"I have already signed the divorce papers so you have just two days to sign your part and leave my house." He informed me and left without looking back, leaving me shattered and broken.
