CHAPTER 13

Since the unexpected announcement of our engagement, Clara has been staying in his penthouse. After the meeting with one of our important clients, he rushed home to see her. Aiden overheard her talking on the phone when he arrived.

“It's fine, Jane. I'm better but just a little bit shocked.”

“Sorry about your job. Alright bye. Talk to you later.”

If anyone had told him last week that Clara would be sitting in my penthouse, he would have burst out in laughter. He would have laughed so hard in their faces. During the three days she has been here, Aiden tried so hard to avoid her. He left for work before she woke up. By the time he got back from work, she would have retired to bed. She goes to bed early, and he knew it was due to the whole engagement announcement stress.

There was a night he met her in the sitting room, all huddled on the sofa. She had this distant look. Her eyes were red and puffy, a sign that she had been crying. Aiden felt this strong urge to w
