Third Person POV

Wednesday morning

As the days moved closer to the mayor’s meeting, Carmen worked diligently on the fundraising platform and the community service portion of the case. She was in the office the entire week, buried in plans, proposals, and presentations. This wasn’t just any project, it was one of the firm’s biggest cases. And with high profile names attached to it, the pressure was on.

Not only would her father, Kevin Michaels, be attending the meeting, but also the other two senior partners: her uncle Karl Michaels and Martin Morgan. The three of them were determined to be involved in every detail, especially now that the mayor's office was in their direct line of sight.

Her father, in particular, had a way of making her feel like she always had something to prove. Kevin Michaels acted like watching her work would somehow validate her place in the firm, as if she hadn’t already earned it. The whole situation annoyed her, but she was determined to keep her composure.

Sienna’s POVI leaned back a little, watching him as he poured the wine, his movements smooth, casual, and yet thoughtful, like he’d done this before. Maybe not the candles and the romantic Airbnb part, but the intentionality. It wasn’t just dinner. It was us.“So,” I said, keeping my voice playful but curious, “where’s our room?”He smirked. “Before you go running off, please, don’t go in there yet.”I raised a brow. “Why not?”“It’s a surprise. Just... give me a little time, alright?”I smirked. “I wasn’t trying to peek, I just want to change. I’m not about to eat dinner in airport jeans and a conference badge.”“There’s a bathroom right there,” he nodded, “and another room across the hall. Either works. Take your pick.”I grabbed my bag quickly and dashed off before I could start overthinking things again.Inside the bathroom, I freshened up, washed my face, dabbed a little perfume behind my ears, and changed into the lingerie I brought just in case I found the courage. It was a de

Sienna’s POVHer phone buzzed on the table just as she tossed her empty water cup into the recycling bin. She glanced down and saw Alex’s name flash across her screen.Alex: I’m downstairs. Talking to Claudine. Beauty, hurry up before I flirt with someone’s grandma. She smirked, thumbs moving quickly.Sienna: My bag’s in my car. Give me 20 minutes, I’ll be down. Don’t let Claudine keep you too long. She added the car unlock from her app.Sienna: Just popped it open. Go ahead and grab the bag. Security already said they’ll watch it while I’m gone.Alex: On it.Sienna exhaled, her pulse quickening not from nerves but from anticipation. She’d been riding the edge of something electric with Alex for weeks. Flirty touches. Deep, knowing kisses. The kind of connection that hummed even in silence. But this weekend... this was new. This was everything finally lining up.She grabbed her boxed lunch and a juice, waved goodbye to the girls, and slipped out the main doors. Her heels tapped agains

Once Carmen wrapped up her presentation, the room filled with applause. A few impressed murmurs rippled through the back row. The lights rose slowly, brightening the conference room again. Carmen exhaled, mentally collecting herself as she took her seat.Mayor Stanley Rogers leaned forward, his voice smug but smooth.“I look forward to working directly with you, Ms. Michaels. You’ve got some very good ideas. I can’t wait for you to come over to the office and join my team. Work with us.”Carmen didn’t flinch, but she gave him a sharp side eye that said everything she didn’t say aloud: I’m not coming to work in your office, you’re coming to work in mine. She managed a cool, “Okay,” and gave a polite nod.Her father, sensing everything from the way she angled her body to the temperature in her tone, cleared his throat.“Well, Carmen is a staple here,” Mr. Michaels began. “She’s still in school full-time and will not be taking any position in Evanston at this time. If your team wants to

Third Person POV Friday Morning The OfficeThe entire floor buzzed like a shaken soda can, the pressure of the day crackling through the hallways. Phones rang. Heels clicked. The lattes were double shots. Every employee moved with urgent precision, knowing today was not the day to slack off, chat by the copier, or breathe too loud.Big wigs were coming.Mayor Stanley Rogers of Evanston and his full entourage were expected any moment. Alongside them, the real titans of the company Kevin Michaels, Karl Michaels, and Martin Morgan were walking in today. Though semi-retired, they still held the keys to the kingdom. They hadn't yet passed the company down to their sons, claiming loudly and often that none of them were worthy yet. The three men lived right in Chicago, but their presence in the office was still a rare event. And when they showed up, the place shifted.Sienna sat at her desk, staring blankly at the tablet in front of her. Her fingers hovered over the screen, but she wasn’t

Knox’s POV I glance at the clock on the dash, 10:04 PM.I’d been out here for over 3 hours, just sitting, watching my food get cold. Eventually, I gave in and ate the wings and fries right there in the car. Still wasn’t enough to stop thinking about her. Thinking about them. Her and Alex. Laughing. Close. Comfortable. Like I never existed. Then her front door opens.Alex steps out, grinning, carrying nothing but empty hands and satisfied energy. I watch from behind my slightly reclined seat, sinking lower so he doesn’t catch my face in the shadows. He gets in his car, completely unaware, and drives off.I exhale. Wait.Five minutes. Ten. Fifteen. Then I move.I get out, heart pounding harder than I’d admit, and I walk up to her door. My stomach's twisted, nerves stretched. I ring the bell before I can talk myself out of it.“What did you forget?” she calls out, annoyed from inside. She swings the door open, expecting him.Not me.Her eyes widen. Her lips part just slightly, and her w

Knox's POVI shut down my computer, grab my keys, and sling my bag over my shoulder. The office is quiet now, just the hum of the fluorescent lights and the distant sound of someone’s heels clicking across the marble tiles. It’s late. Later than I meant to stay.As I head toward the elevators, something catches my eye, Crandon. He’s walking across the floor toward Carmen’s office. That’s odd. Her office is all the way on the opposite side of 8, and most people are long gone.I pause. Watch. He doesn’t knock. Just walks in and closes the door behind him like he lives there.Curious, I drift a little closer, careful not to make it obvious. I get near enough to hear… something. Arguing? Voices, definitely. Not loud, but agitated. Muffled by those soundproof walls, but I can feel the tension.I shrug. Maybe it’s about tomorrow’s presentation. Maybe it’s something else. Either way, not my business.I take the elevator down, ride it in silence, and walk out into the evening air. The city fe
