DAMIEN’S POV

I cut him off, pulling out a video. “I’ve been informed of some activities of yours, as I was considering going into partnership with you. It appears that you’ve been having an affair.” His face blanched, fear in his eyes as I played the video.

The video showed him in a hotel room with another woman and they were having sex. From the foreplay to the BDSM shit he was doing to her. In the middle of the video, the woman left and soon another woman walked into the room. Adrian looked at the video in shock. “How did you get this?” He choked out.

I ignored him, laughing. “This is really funny,” I let out. “Who knew that Adrian Steele was into this type this?”

“I said how you got this video?” he ground out.

“I’m sure your wife does not know about this,” I snapped, saying darkly. “Or maybe she does and she’s also doing the same thing to you. Really, I can’t imagine otherwise. I should leak this video to the press.”

He looked flustered and began stammering. “P-p-p-p-please d-d-don’t tell my wife,” he pleaded and I smirked, a look of satisfaction on my face. I loved how he looked uncomfortable and was trembling in fear. It was just the tip of the iceberg compared to what we have planned for the pair of evil accomplices. It was enough to help me resist the urge not to kill them both.

“I’ll do anything,” he was saying.

“I’m still investigating if you’re worth investing in. Maybe I should look into your wife well, seeing she’s the face of the company. She’s probably cheating as well, I don’t expect less.”

“Please, trust me just this once,” he said, sweating profusely despite being in a well air conditioned room. He wiped his face with a handkerchief. “It was just a one-time thing, just a harmless fling, I swear. I promise you, Carter Cosmetics is worth investing in,” he continued, looking exasperated.

I let out a laugh. “Spare me the pretense. I know you’ve been lobbying clients and running the same sob story to gain support and sponsorships for years. Your ex-girlfriend got what she deserved. Why are you still pouring dirt on an old grave?”

This time, he was quiet. Shocked at the extent of my knowledge.

“Maybe investing in you will be a terrible idea for me,” I said, getting to my feet, ready to walk away. My job tonight was done.

He shot up after me, looking like a madman. Not caring whether people were staring. “Please, reconsider.”

“One more thing,” I turned back to him. “If anything, Carter Cosmetics will not be an asset to me, but a liability. I was only considering it because my wife had suddenly taken a liking to your company.”

ELENA’S POV

I spotted Damien approaching Charlotte and I as we talked to two other women. He stopped in front of us and cleared his throat. “Good evening, ladies,” he greeted. One of the other ladies blushed, and I held in a gag.

“Hello there,” the other lady replied, fanning herself and eyeing him like a fine piece of lunch. I raised an eyebrow, I just couldn’t understand what the women saw in him that made them go gaga and lose it around him.

“Apologies, but if you don’t mind, I’d like to steal my wife for you all,” he said, taking my hand. Charlotte swooned, looking at him dreamily. One of the two ladies, Kathrine I think, looked at me and winked, mouthing You’re so lucky.

If you only knew, I wanted to say to her.

She turned to him, shaking her head. “Oh no, we don’t mind at all. Celine, we could have brunch some time, no?” She asked me.

“Yeah, we can. Call me?”

“Sure, bye Celine.” We said our goodbyes as Damien led me away.

“Let’s go,” he said when we were out of earshot. I swiftly but deftly slip my hand from his.

“Is it done?”

“Yes,” was his reply.

“How did it go?”

“He was flustered as hell and scared shitless. I didn’t say it exactly how we had planned, but it was obvious that I had gotten to him,” he said as we made our way to the car where the chauffeur was already waiting. We got in, and soon we drove off.

I was not impressed, shooting him a side glance. “You have to follow the plan to the very last detail; if not, it won’t work.”

“Whoa, whoa whoa, calm down, little Sherlock. And quit being bossy,” he snapped.

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me, stop being a bossy ass bitch. You’re not some prime minister or president’s daughter. Watch your tone.”

I couldn’t believe my ears. How dare he insult me. Angrily, I moved to smack my heels on his shoe again, but he was quick and calculating as he shifted his leg away from my heels. I tried to hit him with my purse, but he held my hand in place.

“Let go of me,” I spat, venom in my tone.

“You really think I won’t know what you want to do? It’s showing more childish by the minute,” he said darkly. My breath hitched. I was suddenly aware of the position we were in.

His leg, in a bid to stop me from stubbing his toe, was wrapped around mine. He held both of my hands, and I leaned over to him. All my senses were on fire just being in close proximity to him. I could smell him, the musky scent of his cologne. The slight tinge of mint in his breath, mixed with the whiskey and champagne he’d taken tonight.

My gaze dropped down to his lips. It looked plump, rounded. Kissable. Oh God, help me.

He gently pulled me closer, and I shut my eyes, scared he might kiss me. The next words I heard as his lips reached my ear, shook me out of dreamland in an instant.

“Stop ogling me. Sexually frustrated isn’t a good look for you, really.” He let go of me, sitting straight and looking like nothing happened. My cheeks burned.

Fucking bastard.

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   RAW EMOTION

Elena – POVThe kiss was chaotic, messy, and desperate, and utterly intoxicating.I didn’t know who moved first. Maybe we moved at the same time, colliding in the center of the storm we’d both barely survived. There was no room for restraint, no space for guilt or thought. Only emotion is raw, wild, and all-consuming.He kissed me like he needed it to breathe, and I returned it with everything I had left. Our bodies pressed together like magnets. His hands tangled in my hair, pulling just enough to make me gasp, and that sound… it drove him wild. I felt the hard edge of his desire pressing into my thigh, and I shuddered, arousal surging through my veins like wildfire.I pulled him closer. My hands roamed upward, then wrapped around his neck. He groaned against my lips when I gently gripped his throat, my fingers tightening just a little. It was instinct. Emotion. A silent command to let go. And he did.He moaned into my mouth like I’d stolen the last bit of control he had. The sound m

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   THE VIDEO

Elena – POV"Charlotte, I’m going to kill her.”The fury in Damien’s voice was like thunder cracking open the walls of his office. His chair scraped against the tiled floor as he stood, fists clenched, shoulders taut with rage. For a second, he wasn’t Damien anymore he was wrath incarnate, pure, undiluted grief twisted into something sharp and dangerous.I stepped in front of him without thinking.“No,” I whispered, my palms pressing against his chest. His heartbeat was a wild, frantic drum beneath my hands.“Move, Elena,” he warned, his voice low, trembling not from fear, but fury. “I need to”“No,” I repeated, stronger this time. “You can’t.”He stared at me. For a breath, I didn’t think he saw me at all. His eyes were glassy, consumed by the image of his brother, by the sound of his voice saying “Adrian and Charlotte are the reason” but then they flicked downward, to the tears streaking my cheeks.“Elena…”I didn’t let him finish. I stepped back, wiping my eyes roughly with my slee

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   I NEEDED PROOF

Elena – POVCharlotte and Lucas.Never…never in my life did I imagine those two names in the same sentence, let alone in the way the letters revealed them. How did they even meet? How did this start?Seven letters. Seven handwritten pieces of someone else’s heart. And they were love letters. No question about it.Some pages smelled faintly of faded cologne, others were smudged at the edges, as if reread by trembling hands. The words were tender, romantic, and reckless, filled with longing. Lucas had been ready to give up everything for her. He wanted to leave, to start fresh. With her.“You don’t have to be afraid about me being accepted,” one letter read. “We can leave everything behind and go to Paris.”It felt surreal. Painful. If they loved each other so much, why did she kill him?The question burned through me, louder than my thoughts. My fingers trembled as I reached for another letter, but my eyes stung too much to focus. I wasn’t ready for more, not yet.I needed proof. Somet

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   CURSED HOUSE

Elena – POV"You want the key to my brother’s mansion?” Damien asked, one brow arching in suspicion as he leaned against the doorframe of his office.I met his gaze, unreadable. “Yes.”He studied me for a moment. I didn’t flinch, didn’t blink. Just waited.“Why?”I shrugged, pretending I didn’t care more than I did. “To get information. How else am I supposed to uncover the truth?”He didn’t say anything at first. The silence between us stretched long enough to make the walls feel smaller. But then, wordlessly, he turned to his desk, pulled open the drawer, and tossed the key toward me.I caught it midair.“Thanks,” I said simply. As I turned to go, I paused. “Also… can I take your car?”That earned me a slow, suspicious glance. “Gas tank’s full. Don’t crash it.”I smirked. “Wouldn’t dare.”I left his room with the cold metal key pressed into my palm. I didn’t know what I’d find at Lucas’s house if anything but I needed to try. Time was bleeding out fast, and I wasn’t about to waste i

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   A STORM BARELY CONTAINED

Adrian POVThe house was too quiet when I got home. No cheers, no relief, just a hollow silence that made the walls close in around me. The shares were back. The company was mine again. But inside, I was a storm barely contained. The phone call had come from someone unknown, a voice clipped and cold with a plan that had saved me. Sell what didn’t matter, buy back what counted. The pieces had moved silently, and before anyone knew, control was back in my hands. But the victory felt like ashes in my mouth.Charlotte was in the kitchen when I walked in. She didn’t turn to greet me, just leaned against the counter, scrolling through her phone, jaw tight, lips pressed into a thin line.“You’re late,” she said flatly.“Meeting ran long,” I replied, trying to sound casual, but the exhaustion leaked into my voice. She snorted without humor. “You got the shares back. Big deal. What else did you screw up today?”The bitterness in her tone cut deeper than I expected. I closed the distance betwee

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   NOT A DEAD END

Elena POVI picked up the envelope and turned it over in my hands. No name. No logo. But the moment I opened it and saw the contents, I knew who it was from.Dex.It was a file thin, precise, impersonal. Classic Dex. The title on the first page read Lucas Grayson. My chest tightened. I had called Dex a few days ago, asking for anything any scrap of information on Lucas. Apparently Dex had been listening.Still, a shiver ran down my spine. How the hell did he know I was here?No one came near the appliance room. Not even the cleaners. It was the forgotten part of the house quiet, dark, and reeking of bleach and mildew. I’d made it mine out of necessity, not comfort. My eyes flicked to the hallway beyond the door. Only one person could’ve told him.Damien.I scoffed and shook my head, the very thought of his name souring my stomach. That bastard.I still couldn’t believe he’d strangled me. Not metaphorically. Not with words. With his actual hands wrapping around my neck like I was dispo
