ELENA’S POV
As soon as I entered the kitchen, a hand grabbed me, yanking me backwards to face her. “Who the fuck are you and what are you doing here?” she barked at me, her eyes full of disdain.
“I don’t really have the strength to argue with you, Miss Dennis,” I mumbled lowly and looked away, deciding it was better to leave her without any drama. She yanked me again. “Bitch, I’m talking to you!” Oh boy. I was really hoping to work here without drawing any attention to myself. But this bitch is starting to seriously test me. I inhaled deeply before walking away from her, pretending she wasn’t talking to me as I reached for a scone to nibble on while I waited for Hilda. She smacked my hand off the one I was about to take one, giving me a death stare. “Look, I don’t know who you are and why my Damien brought to personally to work for him. But I’m warning you, stay away from him. Don’t even think of making him yours. Damien is mine, got it?” I stared at her for a while before letting out a maniacal laugh, pointing to her like she was crazy. She raised a brow, looking at me confused. “Oh my gosh,” I breathed in amusement. “Oh gosh, this retard is fucking delusional.” Her face twisted in burning rage. “You motherfuckin...” she shrieked, raising her hand to hit me, but I blocked it. And gave her a bitch slap of my own. She reeled back in shock, I knew she wasn’t expecting it. “I’ve been trying so fucking hard to be calm and just be under the radar. It’s just my first day and I’m not supposed to be a bitch just yet, but you are starting to get on my nerves. Now listen and listen to me good,” I snapped, yanking her by the collar and pulling her close with an intimidating look in my eyes. I could see the fear seeping into her pupils and I relished in it. “I don’t have any flying fuck whether you’re in love with him or you just want to jump his bone. But if you so much as act like a bitch to me, I’d ruin you, in the blink of an eye. And your Damien wouldn’t even spare you a second glance. Got it?” When I didn’t get a response, I grabbed her neck and squeezed hard and she began to choke. “GOT IT?!” She struggled to nod, but she managed to do it and I finally let go of her, smiling sweetly like an innocent puppy. Just then Hilda walked in. “I’m sorry for keeping you waiting, Mrs. Vance,” she said, heading straight to the espresso machine. I watched all color drain from Miss Dennis’ face when she heard what Hilda said, her eyes widening at the wedding band on my finger. I turned to Hilda. “It’s alright, Hilda. I just got here myself,” I replied, taking an espresso cup. Mortified and obviously aware that she’d been defeated, she silently left the room. Hilda spoke first. “Oh my God, she’s like such a bitch,” she exclaimed once we were sure Miss Dennis was out of earshot. “She had to be put in her place. It’s just that I didn’t want to act like a brat on my first day at work,” I replied as she taught me what to do, waiting for the espresso to finish pouring out. “Girl, she deserved what was coming for her,” Hilda remarked. “She’s been going on for ages now, about how Mr Vance is her man. All because he smiled at her once. He wasn’t even smiling at her, because he was talking to someone on the phone. But she won’t stop bitching about it ever since, bullying all the younger ladies who so much as greets him.” She laughed. “Oh really?” “Yup. I liked what you did, though and I was worried the move you pulled would make her run to the HR team to fire you. So I had to step in.” I gasped in surprise. “Y-you saw me, when I___” “Yes girl, that was a bitch ass move. And the slap, dammnnn! Shook me to my core. You and I are going to be very good friends,” she said, smirking as she added the second shot of cream and stirred. “There you have it. You cover it with a coaster and serve it on a tray with English biscuits to him. He hates to admit it but he does have a bit of a sweet tooth.” I did as she asked, following her gratefully. “Thank you, Hilda. I don’t know what I’d do if you weren’t here. Really. You’re a lifesaver,” I said to her as the elevator rode back up. “Honey, it’s your first day. We all don’t get it right the first time, so we need to help each other out.” We got out and I quickly went to get the coffee to Damien. Don’t want him bitching about my incompetence on the first day. “You spent thirty-five minutes,” he said when I placed the tray before him. I didn’t reply, not even as much as an apology. He took a sip, and it seemed to pass his approval, although he didn’t say it and my shoulders sagged with relief. I turned to sit back down on the couch, awaiting his next instructions, when he stopped me. “Nice power moves you got there, dealing with Miss Dennis,” I heard him say and I turned to face him, surprised. “How did you__” I began but zipped my lips almost immediately when I realized how. He was the CEO, of course, he’d have access to the security cameras. “Good girl.” His velvety, dark voice sent shivers down my spine.ELENA’S POVAs soon as I entered the kitchen, a hand grabbed me, yanking me backwards to face her. “Who the fuck are you and what are you doing here?” she barked at me, her eyes full of disdain. “I don’t really have the strength to argue with you, Miss Dennis,” I mumbled lowly and looked away, deciding it was better to leave her without any drama. ELENA’S POVI bit the insides of my mouth to swallow the laugh that threatened to escape. Served her right to waltz in here with her boobs all up in her face, thinking she can seduce Damien. It was very funny to watch her flare up and turn red like she ate a bunch of jalapeno peppers while she walked out in shame with her tail between her legs. Not before glaring daggers at me as she was leaving, as if to say This is not over. Not even sparing her a second glance, I sat back down and opened the folder, running through the job description. I frowned in confusion, not understanding why the job description was looking so mediocre even for my status.“Grab your coffee? What am I, your live-in maid?” I scoffed, slamming the file on his desk angrily, and got to my feet. He didn’t look startled one bit as his gaze didn’t leave his work. “And what is this, taking all the notes in all your meetings? Following you on business trips?”“That’s the job description you’ve been dying to find out abo
ELENA'S POVI sat in the car in uncomfortable silence as we drove to work. My mind was itching with questions to ask, about what my job was and what exactly I'd be doing. I didn't have much experience, as I had just taken over the company before I was wrongfully accused and jailed. But despite all the questions in my head, I couldn't bring myself to ask. He'd already pissed me off this morning by asking me to change. I knew for sure he just wanted to control me, even to the littlest detail, but I won't let him get the best of me. The new outfit, a blue office couture I had changed into, was more fitted, more cinched than the last, but he didn't seem to notice, or mind at all.As we reached the towering building that was Vance Industries, a valet came for the car and waited for us to get off. A group of men sighted us and bowed, although some of them had their gaze on me lingering longer than usual. I heard a soft growl beside me, and I turned to see Damien staring menacingly at the me
DAMIEN'S POVI closed the door to my room with a start, letting out a breath I didn't realise I was holding. I had managed to keep my cool all the while I was talking to Elena, but internally, I was losing my shit, my thoughts running about 100 miles per hour. She drives me crazy and pushes my buttons, that's for sure. But no other woman has made me jittery in my entire life. Only she could make me curse in anger, yet make me want to go all out for her. It was a miracle that I refused to buy her company shares back with my money, because if she asked, I'd give in to her demands within a heartbeat. What's it with this woman?I didn't know what came over me, telling her to work for me. Maybe because I don't want her to run away. And her body.God damn. I didn't mean to look, and I knew I sounded like a creep just thinking about it. But one look at her and I was transfixed. Blown out of my mind. I know I told her that her body was even less desirable than the strippers at the club, but
ELENA'S POVMy face blanched, devoid of all color at his statement. Even if the words weren't as menacing as they sounded, the look that came with it was even scarier. Bland and placid, yet deadly. And ice cold, it made hell freeze over. Don't think you wanna know. You may not live to tell the story. He definitely killed someone. How often did he do that? Does he pull out a Glock every time things don't go his way? I gulped, getting up as well, suddenly feeling claustrophobic being in the same room with this man. I have to get far away from here. I began walking away when a hand grabbed my arm, causing me to jump, yelping in fear. I turned to see Damien already behind me, his hand holding on to my arm. He suddenly looked menacing, not someone I should ever think of messing with."We're still talking," he said, his voice still placid and bland, but the longer I was in his immediate line of sight, the faster my heart beat from petrification.I forced myself to blink and my lips to form
ELENA'S POVI stepped out of the room, peering left and right to be sure that Damien was nowhere to be found. When I was sure he was nowhere in sight, I walked to the living room."Elena," I heard my name, and jumped. Jeez, this man has got to stop scaring me like this. I saw him in the kitchen, making dinner. Or more like a very early breakfast, seeing that it was just past 11 pm. I soon joined him, albeit warily, and took a seat by the kitchen counter."I'm sorry for barging in on you like that. I'm not used to having people around me," he apologized. I popped open a bottle of red wine I had seen on the island and poured myself a glass. I took a big gulp. "I bet you were ogling me, fucking me with your eyes. Let me make one thing clear: get those dirty thoughts out of your head. Get that image of me out of your head, okay? I'm not like the girls you fuck around with. Even if the world were ending and you needed to have sex to save it, I'd rather die with the rest of the world. And
