ELENA'S POV

My face blanched, devoid of all color at his statement. Even if the words weren't as menacing as they sounded, the look that came with it was even scarier. Bland and placid, yet deadly. And ice cold, it made hell freeze over. Don't think you wanna know. You may not live to tell the story.

He definitely killed someone.

How often did he do that? Does he pull out a Glock every time things don't go his way? I gulped, getting up as well, suddenly feeling claustrophobic being in the same room with this man.

I have to get far away from here. I began walking away when a hand grabbed my arm, causing me to jump, yelping in fear. I turned to see Damien already behind me, his hand holding on to my arm. He suddenly looked menacing, not someone I should ever think of messing with.

"We're still talking," he said, his voice still placid and bland, but the longer I was in his immediate line of sight, the faster my heart beat from petrification.

I forced myself to blink and my lips to form a reply. "B-but you st-st-stood up first," I forced out. "I thought y-you were leaving."

He blinked at me, straightening and almost towering over me. I didn't realize he was this tall as he stood near me. Or was it the fear talking?

Get a hold of yourself, Elena.

He blinked again.

I blinked back at him.

He reached for my shoulders with both hands, holding me in place. "Elena," he said, his eyes searching mine. "Is something wrong? You're shaking like a leaf."

And just like that, the trance I was in broke. Why was I suddenly afraid of this man? I was equally as powerful as him. But he'll definitely be able to finish you off, if you so much as look at him and it rubs him the wrong way.

I most definitely knew that.

I sidestepped him, the feeling of claustrophobia rushing back, filling my head. "I_ I'm fine."

He gave me a look, like he was trying to make out was wrong, or ask. But decided against it, shoving his hands into the pocket of his pants, lips pressed to a thin line. "Well, if you're going to buy such a large amount of shares, first, you'll need to do it secretly," he started, finally speaking after a long while.

"If you don't, they'll start getting suspicious and it would backfire on us. Secondly, you have to work to make money. As much as I'd like to throw in some money along with your trust fund, I'm not ready to give out more money to this if it's not going to produce the kind of results I want. If it's not towards getting proof they are the killers, but to your revenge plan, I'm not funding it."

I nodded, understanding perfectly what he's trying to say. "What are you suggesting?"

He smirked, like he was waiting ages for that question. "You're working for the money. For me, in my company." My face scrunched up in displeasure, ready to rebut, but one look at him shut me up.

How did I forget how the air felt earlier so fast? "No arguments," he said. "You're working for me. You start tomorrow. You'll come with me at the start of work and leave with me when the day is over."

"I'd rather jump off a cliff or work in a barn than work for you," I let out, my lips obviously moving faster than my brain.

His eyebrows hit the roof, as if to say Oh really? "You wanna stick around to find out what I did tonight?" he said darkly, smirking, his velvety yet raspy voice that would do me ten ways to Sunday any other day yet doing anything but. If anything, it shook me to my core, my eyes widening at his remark in fear. I turned on my heels, making a beeline for my room, when he stopped me.

"By the way," he called out, a cocky look on his face. "Your body isn't the best I've seen out there, princess. Maybe ragged at best," he said, shrugging. "And I don't fuck brunettes. I won't even look twice in your direction like that. So get off your high horse. There are so many other women out there who'll drop their panties faster than you can blink at just the mention of my name. Nice view though, just nothing new."

With that, he turned and left the room. My face turned beet red in mortification the moment I was alone.

"I won't fuck you too if my life depended on it," I snapped, but my attempts to come back at him just came out weak and feeble. He wasn't even in the room anymore. I walked into my room, sinking down to the floor, the moment the door shut behind me. Your body isn't the best I've seen out there, princess. Only he could go from a zero, frosty and menacing to a hundred, fucking with my mind real quick. And I walked right into it.

I groan internally, not exactly how I planned my night to end. In my books, nothing can ever top the level of several emotions I've felt in this night alone, from snarky to mischief to fear, even to mortification. Way to go, Elena. You put yourself in this position. Every fucking time.

I have never felt so humiliated in my entire thirty years of living. I want to crawl into a hole from second-hand embarrassment and never come out. I got up and slowly walked to the bed, picking up the pillows I had hurled at him earlier. I had forgotten to place it back before I went downstairs for dinner.

The bed was soft, fluffy, and the pillows even fluffier. I had placed my head and rested my body, tucked snug under the sheets, and I didn't realize when sleep enveloped me

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   THE GAME BEGINS

ELENA'S POVI sat in the car in uncomfortable silence as we drove to work. My mind was itching with questions to ask, about what my job was and what exactly I'd be doing. I didn't have much experience, as I had just taken over the company before I was wrongfully accused and jailed. But despite all the questions in my head, I couldn't bring myself to ask. He'd already pissed me off this morning by asking me to change. I knew for sure he just wanted to control me, even to the littlest detail, but I won't let him get the best of me. The new outfit, a blue office couture I had changed into, was more fitted, more cinched than the last, but he didn't seem to notice, or mind at all.As we reached the towering building that was Vance Industries, a valet came for the car and waited for us to get off. A group of men sighted us and bowed, although some of them had their gaze on me lingering longer than usual. I heard a soft growl beside me, and I turned to see Damien staring menacingly at the me

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   TEMPTATION AND TURMOIL

DAMIEN'S POVI closed the door to my room with a start, letting out a breath I didn't realise I was holding. I had managed to keep my cool all the while I was talking to Elena, but internally, I was losing my shit, my thoughts running about 100 miles per hour. She drives me crazy and pushes my buttons, that's for sure. But no other woman has made me jittery in my entire life. Only she could make me curse in anger, yet make me want to go all out for her. It was a miracle that I refused to buy her company shares back with my money, because if she asked, I'd give in to her demands within a heartbeat. What's it with this woman?I didn't know what came over me, telling her to work for me. Maybe because I don't want her to run away. And her body.God damn. I didn't mean to look, and I knew I sounded like a creep just thinking about it. But one look at her and I was transfixed. Blown out of my mind. I know I told her that her body was even less desirable than the strippers at the club, but

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   BOILING POINT

ELENA'S POVI stepped out of the room, peering left and right to be sure that Damien was nowhere to be found. When I was sure he was nowhere in sight, I walked to the living room."Elena," I heard my name, and jumped. Jeez, this man has got to stop scaring me like this. I saw him in the kitchen, making dinner. Or more like a very early breakfast, seeing that it was just past 11 pm. I soon joined him, albeit warily, and took a seat by the kitchen counter."I'm sorry for barging in on you like that. I'm not used to having people around me," he apologized. I popped open a bottle of red wine I had seen on the island and poured myself a glass. I took a big gulp. "I bet you were ogling me, fucking me with your eyes. Let me make one thing clear: get those dirty thoughts out of your head. Get that image of me out of your head, okay? I'm not like the girls you fuck around with. Even if the world were ending and you needed to have sex to save it, I'd rather die with the rest of the world. And

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   COLD JUICE

DAMIEN'S POVI walked back to the car with Dex in tow. "This wasn't in the plan," he was ranting. "Why the fuck did you kill him?"I stopped. "I didn't like his face?" I said, throwing it out like a question. He scoffed, genuinely shocked. "What the hell is wrong with you, man? You killed him because you don't like his face. You've got to give me something better than that.""He knew the killers, and he didn't do anything to stop them. He even went ahead to help them for many years. He even killed Lucia Garner, who was innocent in all of this. All because she saw the murder happen. Had been tailing her all those times to make sure she didn't speak. And when she did... And you're telling me I shouldn't have shot him?"He backed away this time, accepting defeat. "I'm just worried about you, man," he said.I got into the car, and he joined me. "The boys will take care of him, right?" I asked him and he nodded. "Yeah, I left my car to bring them back after finishing the job.""Thank you,

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   SMOKE AND MIRROWS

ELENA'S POVI was bored out of my mind. And there was absolutely nothing to do. Perhaps I should have taken the credit card and gone shopping as he had wanted me to. But I wasn't letting him tame me just for a fleeting moment of pleasure. I know the kind of men he portrayed-those who threw money at everything as if it could solve everything. He could keep his black card to himself, thank you very much.Groaning visibly out of boredom, I looked around for what to do. I sensed I had been banned from the kitchen until further notice. I could tell by the side eye the butler had been giving me all day. Talk about loyalty. I almost laughed at his behavior.Well, you kind of deserve it. My stomach growled at the thought almost immediately. I know, baby, I haven't fed you in hours. Whether the butler or Damien liked it or not, I had to eat. I grabbed the leftover mac and cheese I had put in the freezer after dinner and popped it in the microwave. This man doesn't really care whether I live o
