CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

ELENA’S POV

The laughter came from somewhere beyond the broken window.

It was low, deliberate, and terribly close.

Justice moved in front of me, his injured hand curling into a fist as his golden eyes swept the darkness.

“Show yourself!”

The laughter stopped.

Then every door in the bedroom slammed shut.

I flinched as a cold wind rushed through the room, lifting the curtains and scattering the papers on Justice's desk. The silver mark on my wrist burned, its light growing brig

  • WRONG LUNA, RIGHT ALPHA    The Council's Demand

CHAPTER THIRTY Elena’s POV The message continued to echo through the estate. Elena stood beside Justice, her fingers locked around his. The silver mark on her wrist burned beneath her sleeve, responding to the voice that had demanded her surrender. Nobody moved. Then Justice stepped forward. “Shut down the communication system.” A guard hurried away. Justice turned to the others. “No one opens the gates. Double the security around the estate, and make sure every injured wolf is taken to the medical wing.” “Yes, Alpha.” When the guards dispersed, Justice faced Elena. “You're not going anywhere.” She looked at him. “I wasn't planning to run.” “I mean it, Elena. Whatever happens at that gate, you stay behind me.” She gently pulled her hand free. “And I mean it when I say I'm not going to hide while other people suffer because of me.” His jaw tightened. “Elena—” “You cannot keep asking me to trust you while refusing to trust my decisions.” Justice looked away for a mo

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE Elena’s POV The journey back to Silver Moon felt endless. Justice sat beside Elena in the back of the vehicle, his injured arm resting across his lap. Darius occupied the front passenger seat, his attention fixed on the road ahead. Nobody spoke. Elena kept glancing at Justice. The black mark on his arm had stopped spreading, but it remained beneath his skin like a stain that refused to disappear. She reached for his hand. He turned toward her. “Are you still in pain?” “A little.” “That's not an answer.” A faint smile touched his mouth. “Yes, Elena. I'm still in pain.” She looked down at their joined hands. “You should have told me how bad it was.” “You had enough to worry about.” “I'm your mate, Justice. I don't want you deciding what I can handle.” His expression softened. “You're right.” She looked up, surprised by how easily he admitted it. He brushed his thumb across her knuckles. “I don't want to lose you. Sometimes I for

  • WRONG LUNA, RIGHT ALPHA    The Darkness

CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT Elena’s POV Severin's scream echoed through the ruined tower. The darkness had wrapped itself around his legs, climbing toward his waist like living smoke. He struck at it with a burst of dark energy, but the shadows only tightened. “Get it off me!” he roared. Elena stared in disbelief. A moment ago, Severin had stood before them as though he controlled every force in the chamber. Now he was struggling against something he had awakened himself. “What is that thing?” she asked. Darius had backed away from the crystal. His face was pale, his eyes fixed on the darkness. “The first corruption,” he whispered. “It existed before the old council. Before the packs were divided. The First Moon was created to contain it.” Elena looked at the fractured crystal. “You knew?” “I knew the anchor contained something dangerous. I didn't know it was the original corruption.” “Then why did you help Severin build it?” Darius flinched. “Because I believed I could contro

CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN Elena’s POV The crystal cracked again. A sharp silver line spread across its black surface, and the entire chamber trembled. Dust fell from the ceiling as the red light inside the crystal pulsed violently. Elena stared at it, her heart pounding. The First Moon had rejected Severin’s demand. Whatever sacrifice he had planned, it would not accept one made under threat. Severin’s expression hardened. “Do you think that changes anything?” he asked. “The anchor has already taken root. Your little display of compassion will not undo what has been set in motion.” Justice struggled to his feet, one hand pressed against the wall. The black mark on his arm had spread beyond his elbow, its dark veins crawling beneath his skin. “Then tell us how to destroy it,” Justice said. Severin laughed softly. “You still believe you have a choice, Alpha Kane? Your strength is fading. Your wolf can barely answer you, and your mate is standing in front of a power she doesn't un

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIXELENA’S POV“The Alpha has come to die.”The words came from the largest of the three wolves standing before the ruined tower. Its black fur was streaked with silver, and its red eyes burned with an unnatural light. The other two stood on either side of it, their bodies tense and their claws digging into the earth.Elena tightened her hold around Justice's arm.“Who are they?”“Guardians,” Darius answered. “They were once members of the Moonborn royal guard. Severin corrupted them.”The largest wolf stepped forward.“Give us the heir, and the Alpha may leave this place alive.”Justice let out a low growl.“You will have to kill me first.”Elena turned toward him.“You are not helping.”“I wasn't trying to.”Despite his condition, he moved in front of her. His wolf was clearly fighting to emerge, but the black mark on his arm pulsed, forcing him to stagger.Elena caught his hand.“Don't transform. The curse is already hurting you.”Justice looked down at her.“I won'

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE ELENA’S POV “LET US SEE HOW MUCH YOUR LOVE IS WORTH.” Severin's voice faded, but the black mark on Justice's wrist continued to spread. Elena held his hand between hers, watching helplessly as the darkness crept toward his elbow. His breathing had become uneven, and the golden glow in his eyes flickered as though something was slowly extinguishing it. “Justice, look at me.” His gaze struggled to meet hers. “I'm here,” he whispered. “You're going to be fine.” He tried to smile, but the effort seemed to cost him. “That's quite an order, Luna.” “Then consider it an order from your wife.” A weak laugh escaped him before pain tightened his expression again. Elena turned toward the mirrors. “Isolde! Tell me how to stop this!” The silver figure appeared between two of the mirrors. Her expression was grave. “The mark is not an ordinary wound. Severin has placed a curse upon the bond between you. It is feeding on the connection that awakened t
