Chapter 39.

I moved quickly in the kitchen, determined not to waste any of the durian Ajax had brought home. One entire fruit later, I had several neatly packed durian box cakes chilling in the fridge. Knowing durian wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea—and also because we had some ripe mangos lying around—I decided to make a few mango versions too, just in case.

I mean you really can’t go wrong with this tropical fruit.

The next morning, after preparing Dylan’s lunch, I packed two slices of durian and a durian box cake into a clear glass container. I placed the container in a small, insulated lunch bag.

Borrowing inspiration from those housewives in Japanese dramas, I made them somewhat cute and fun. I have always wanted to make lunch boxes cute, it was one of my small dreams in life since I was able to do it.

Either I was out of budget, or didn't have time and energy. Or it was all of the above. I mean a good presentation could also affect your opinion about the food. So even if durian does

Truth be told, I’m not a big fan of durian. I’m probably part of the 1% here in Davao City (Durian Capital of the Philippines) who doesn’t eat it. It’s not just the smell; there’s something about the texture too that doesn’t sit right with me. I’m sorry to those durian lovers 😔 but I can eat the candy though! (redeeming myself) That said, one of my friends absolutely loves durian. (I always remind her not to eat a whole seed in one go—it’s not great for high blood pressure!) For this chapter, I wasn’t really sure what fruit to choose that would have a good impact, a fruit that can either make it or break it type. I even asked for her opinion on this chapter, and she suggested durian which really made sense. On the other hand, I adore mangoes.

  • Waking Up As the Villain's Mother   Chapter 41

Chapter 41.When Ajax came home that evening, he went about his usual routine of going upstairs and changing into comfortable clothing. I hastily followed after him. But, I hadn't expected he would change with his bedroom door open. The moment I stepped into view, I was met with the unexpected sight of his bare torso—abs and pecs, clearly defined and on full display. I stood there, momentarily stunned. Who knew Ajax looked like that under all those button-ups?I appreciably sighed. Ajax had a very good figure. He looked conspicuously thin when he was dressed, but it was a different story when he was undressed. My body was

Chapter 40.The durian and mango box cakes that Dylan brought to nursery school were a big hit with his classmates and teachers.Even the teachers had complimented them, saying they tasted fresh and were just the right amount of sweet. A few had even quietly asked Teacher Kriz where she had bought them, only to be told—much to their surprise—that they were homemade cakes made by Dylan's mom.Dylan couldn’t have been prouder. He puffed out his little chest and practically floated through the morning like a king among toddlers. After lunch came naptime, but the classroom was far from quiet. Instead of sleeping, the children lay on their little beds, chattering excitedly, the energy from the sweets lingering in the air.“I told you guys already—my mom can make cakes,” Dylan said, his voice full of smug satisfaction. He lay on his mat with his chubby legs lifted and kicking lazily in the air. “You didn’t believe me, but even Teacher Kriz said they taste better than the ones from the baker

  • Waking Up As the Villain's Mother   Chapter 38

Chapter 38.My language lessons had become something I genuinely looked forward to each day. They were casual and relaxed—no rigid textbooks or classroom pressure. My teacher, a cheerful woman in her thirties from abroad, had a warm presence and a patient teaching style. We usually met in a quiet café or a charming little bakery, chatting leisurely in English over coffee and pastries. Sometimes, she’d take me to watch a movie in English or stroll through boutiques for a bit of window shopping. I covered all the expenses, of course, but I didn’t mind. The settings were so easygoing that I’d stopped feeling self-conscious about speaking in English. To my surprise, my fluency was improving quickly.Compared to the soul-sucking grind of a full-time job, this new routine felt like a breeze. My weekdays were full but fulfilling. After lunch, I’d head off to my baking classes. Those were a few hours of flour-dusted bliss, and even the occasional burnt batch couldn’t dampen my mood. But on r

  • Waking Up As the Villain's Mother   Chapter 37

Chapter 37.Ajax didn't feel that he had treated Gwyneth unfairly. On that night four years ago, she had been the one to plot against him first, and he had chosen to indulge when presented the opportunity. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that they were both willing participants. To scheme and to be schemed. The following morning, he had woken with a clear head and an even clearer plan. If she wanted money, a car, a place to live—he would give it all. That much, at least, he could provide. A night’s indiscretion could be compensated. It was the practical, reasonable thing to do.However, after practising self-discipline for so many years, one night's indiscretion would change the rest of his life.Gwyneth had gotten pregnant. And she had wanted to keep the child and get married. As a man, there was only one path for him; take responsibility. To others, it might have seemed odd that he didn’t pressure her into an abortion. In a city like Aeruginosa, such arrangements happened quietly and f

  • Waking Up As the Villain's Mother   Chapter 36

Chapter 36.The news that Ajax Montclair would not be coming into the office that morning spread through the company like wildfire. To outsiders, it might seem trivial—a CEO adjusting his schedule. But for those who had worked under him, even briefly, it was nothing short of a phenomenon.Ajax was known in the industry for his near-militant discipline. A man who built his empire from the ground up, clawing his way from poverty to prestige, he didn’t believe in tardiness, excuses, or laziness. He was the type who came in before the sun rose and left only after every light on the floor was turned off. His work ethic was as much a part of his reputation as his sharp suits and ruthless negotiation skills. So when Assistant Jean stepped out of the CEO’s office and quietly muttered, “He’s rescheduled all morning meetings to the afternoon,” the bullpen froze.“Did he say why?” someone whispered from behind their computer monitor.“He’s never done that before,” another murmured, eyes wide.“
