Chapter 3

작가: Summer
Ian started to panic when he saw me packing my luggage. I looked down and said nonchalantly. "I'm off for a business trip."

He was relieved. "You should leave the day after tomorrow. It's Lucy's birthday tomorrow, and you should be there as her future sister-in-law."

It was particularly lively at the Cabellos' villa the next day because every family had sent someone to attend Lucy's birthday. She had her arm around Ian while wearing her pink diamond necklace and was receiving well-wishes from the guests. I was forgotten at a corner with no one asking for me.

I was enjoying my freedom when Lucy walked over to me with a smile. She lowered her voice and said, "I heard that your sister is dead, Hailey, and that you didn't even manage to see her one last time." I jerked up my head to stare straight at her. She knew it all along and had stopped me from getting a loan intentionally.

Lucy's smile got wider when she saw my eyes turning red. She leaned in close to me to whisper tauntingly, "You're right. I did it on purpose. This is the price you should pay for seducing Ian."

I was enraged, but before I could do anything, Lucy suddenly fell backward, and she pushed the necklace on her neck into my hand before falling onto the ground. "Ah! Why did you do that, Hailey? My neck hurts!" Her voice attracted everyone's attention.

"Isn't that Signorino Ian's fiancée, Hailey Salvatore? Why did she snatch Lucy Carter's necklace?"

"I heard that she failed to put together the money for her marriage, and she even conned others to sign a business contract with her. Has she gone crazy over money?"

"Don Cabello was smart enough to test her before the wedding. Look at how quickly she's showing her true colors."

I turned to look at Ian. We had been together for seven years, and he knew my character well, but I was taken aback when I saw the disappointment on his face. "Are you doubting me as well?"

Ian helped Lucy up, and it pained him to see the bloody mark on her neck. Lucy fell crying into his arms. "I was just afraid Don Cabello would find out that Hailey tried to cheat, Ian. That's why I stopped her from loaning money from you, but I didn't expect her to hate me for it and try to snatch the necklace you gave me. She even went as far as to push me…"

He had initially given me the benefit of the doubt, but Lucy's words convinced him of my wrongdoing. Everyone around us started to whisper about this. "I can't believe she tried to cheat by loaning money and, when Signorina Lucy tried to stop her, she was petty enough to take revenge. How can she…"

"No, I didn't! She was the one…" I tried to explain frantically.

"That's enough!" Ian finally could not take it, and he berated me sternly, "How dare you still give excuses, Hailey? Do you think Lucy would frame you for something like this? I can't believe you would be petty enough to hold this against Lucy when you're supposed to be the mature sister-in-law, and even do something like this to hurt her! I was wrong about you.”

"With a character like yours, you wouldn't be good enough to be the Donna of the Cabellos even if you managed to put together fifty million."

How could he pronounce me guilty just like that? I bit my lip hard as tears started to well in my eyes. When his father suggested that I raise fifty million for the wedding, he fought for me by insisting that he wanted to be with me, even if it meant giving up his right as heir to the Cabellos. Now, I could no longer tell how true his feelings for me had been then.

"You know that's not who I am," I said with a sob.

"I used to think I knew who you were too," Ian interrupted me. "You would never have tried to cheat by asking for a loan, but that's exactly what you did. I have no idea who you really are now."

Ian was acting as if I had backstabbed him, and it only made me want to laugh. He had treated me as a person who would cross any line from the moment I asked him for a loan. He had no idea what I had been through, and he was not willing to believe anything I said. All he could see was Lucy's unhappiness, and her words were the only ones he trusted.

The guests started to look at me with disdain as they continued whispering. Even the domestic help looked at me condescendingly. "It's fine, Ian." Lucy wiped away her tears and said with a smile, "You should forgive Hailey on my account…" She started apologizing to the guests in a dignified manner. "I apologize on behalf of the Cabellos for what happened today. We thank you for your patience in this."

Ian looked at her proudly, and later turned to look angrily at me. "Lucy is asking for forgiveness on your behalf after suffering such humiliation. Look at you! You refuse to even give a simple apology!"

With that, he picked up the damaged necklace and said coldly to me, "This necklace that you broke cost thirty million. It's only right that you make compensation for the original price. Also, you need to pay for Lucy's medical bills since she's hurt."

Compensation? I bent over, laughing hard. "You can pay her using the forty million I saved up. The only thing is, I wonder where that money went?"

Ian choked back his words and turned away from me guiltily, but he quickly pulled it together and pointed at the necklace around my neck. "No need for that. This looks pretty valuable. How about auctioning it away right now? I'll use that money to buy Lucy a new necklace."

  • Waking Up from a Reverie   Chapter 11

Our wedding was held on an island with the sun, sand, and blue sky. I was wearing a white wedding gown with my arms around Cole's as we walked toward the priest. I looked at the man next to me. He was handsome, gentle, and had given me a new life and a home. However, Ian made an appearance at our wedding in an unexpected way. When we were about to exchange wedding rings, the big screen in the church suddenly started playing a video, in which Lucy, whom I had not seen for a long time, suddenly appeared. She was locked up in a dark room, looking withered and crazy. "That's impossible! How can Hailey Salvatore still be alive and about to get married? No! Impossible! I don't believe you!”"She's about to marry another man, Ian. How can you bear to kill me for her? Why are you being so cruel?!" At the end of the video, Ian stabbed Lucy through the heart, and her blood splattered onto the screen. The sight shocked all of the guests. I was stunned. Was Lucy Carter dead? Cole immediately o

Ian did not give up. He messaged and called me using another number after I blocked him. The messages remained the same. He would apologize, be repentant, or make all sorts of promises to me, but I ignored all of them. After that, he started using the most basic ways to try to woo me. Ian would appear on time at the doors of my office building every morning in a luxury car with the trunk filled with the freshest roses. He would stand next to the car with a bouquet in his hand while waiting for me to appear. I became the main source of gossip for my company's employees."Signorino Ian is here again with 999 roses. How romantic of him.""How is Miss Linetti going to choose between two men who are both tall, handsome, and rich?"I walked stoically into the office as I listened to the gossip. I never once accepted the flowers he brought me and I got the cleaner to take care of all of them. When Ian realized the flowers had no impact on me, he started giving me all sorts of gifts that

Ian looked at me in a daze as misery started to fill his eyes. I held onto Cole's arms and prepared to leave when he suddenly called out from behind me, "Hailey!" I paused my steps, but did not look back. Ian quickly caught up to me and stopped me from leaving. "It's you, isn't it? You're Hailey!" He looked agitated as he grabbed my shoulder with great force. "You're not dead… You're really not dead…"Cole quickly came forward to fling Ian's hand away from me. "As far as I know, Miss Hailey Salvatore is dead, Ian Cabello. You were the one who buried her with your own hands!" Cole held me protectively in his arms and said coldly, "This woman is my fiancée, Willow Linetti. Please stop harassing her or I'll be taking action against you."Ian was rendered speechless. Cole was right. Everyone knew that Hailey was dead. What right did Ian have to claim that she was Hailey? I tidied up myself as Ian had messed up my clothes from grabbing me, and I looked at him coolly. "I think you've got

Wilco Real Estate became even more renowned after we successfully bid on the South City land. I became the rising star of the industry, and Cole even organized a celebration party for me. He kept by my side throughout the party, helping me fend off malicious prodding into my identity."Are you tired?" He asked me in a low voice.I shook my head. "I'm fine." Physical exhaustion was nothing if I could enjoy the feeling of being in control."Ian Cabello is here," Cole suddenly announced. I looked in the direction Cole was looking, and I saw Ian standing in the corner, staring back at me. He lost so much weight that his once-fitted suit now hung loosely on him, no longer looking like the handsome man he once was. Ian was now completely different from the high and mighty heir of the Cabellos that I once knew.I looked away. "Ignore him." However, Ian walked straight toward me as the guests moved aside to make way for him. When he stood in front of him, he spoke in a hoarse voice, "Haile

  • Waking Up from a Reverie   Chapter 7

Three months after my 'death', a new company known as Wilco Real Estate appeared with me, Willow Linetti, as its representative. Cole gave me a huge amount of money and most of his connections and told me, "The stage has been set. It's all up to you now." I did not let him down. Using my past experience, it was not long before I was able to make a name for myself in the real estate business. I managed to win several major projects very quickly, and Wilco Real Estate's name started to make its way around the industry. As for the Cabellos, their business started to face a decline. One day, Cole came to me with a tender. "The Cabellos have their eyes set on that piece of land in South City." He looked at me. "Are you interested?" I was reminded of how I had spent so much effort on that land, only for my plans to be ruined by Ian. I smiled coldly, "Of course." Not only did I want it, but I also wanted Ian to be utterly defeated. On the day of the tender, I made sure to give myself a

Ian's basement was dark, humid and filled with the stench of blood. Lucy was tied to a cross and trembling all over. She had been pampered all her life and had never encountered such a situation before. "Ian… Big brother… What are you doing? Put me down right now…"Lucy acted sweetly in an attempt to convince Ian to let her go. He walked toward her slowly with an icy look in his eye. "Big brother?" His sneer was filled with sarcasm. "I don't have a sister who killed my wife." His words made Lucy's face turn pale. "I… I have no idea what you're talking about…" She was still trying to give excuses. "Hailey… Didn't she die in an accident?"Ian grabbed her face. "Accident?" He motioned for his subordinates to drag the men who had caused the fire in front of her. They had been beaten into a pulp and were now unrecognizable. "They admitted to everything! You! You were the one who gave orders to them to kill Hailey in that fire!"When Lucy saw those men, she knew there was no point denyi
