Chapter 2

작가: Summer
My sister's funeral took me three days to organize. Many people showed up to pay their respects, but Ian acted like he had no idea that she had died. He did not show up or even give me a call, much less stay by my side to comfort me.

I was reminded of when I had worked two consecutive weeks to pull in company sales, only to pass out from exhaustion and be hospitalized. Ian broke out in cold sweat from panicking over my condition and he held my hand to say, "You scared me, Hailey. Stop overworking yourself. I'll figure out how to get the money. All you need to do is take good care of yourself."

Ian's deep concern for me meant nothing as he immediately gave Lucy everything that I had worked hard to earn. I took out my phone to call Ian, but instead, saw Lucy's latest post on my screen.

[Ian said I was the only woman good enough to own the jewelry that was the grand finale of today's auction.]

The caption was accompanied by a picture of a pink diamond necklace worth thirty million.

When I tried to discuss our wedding with Ian the last few days, he seemed distracted. It was because he had been busy bidding on necklaces for Lucy for the last few days. He had been checking for updates on his phone for auction items because he wanted to pick a gift for Lucy.

I closed my eyes tiredly. I felt exhausted mentally and physically.

When I got home, I saw Ian's shoes the moment I opened the door. Since revealing his identity to me, it had been a long time since Ian came to my house. When Ian saw me come home, he came to hug me lovingly like he always did. "I miss you so much, Honey. You don't look very well. Is it your headache again?"

Ian cleared his throat when I stayed silent, and he continued awkwardly, "Are you still feeling unhappy about what Lucy said? I apologize on her behalf. It's the family’s rules, after all. Please don't be mad at her, all right?”

"Don't be anxious about putting the rest of the money together. I'll help you figure something out and I promise you'll have a grand wedding."

I smiled sarcastically. It all depended on Lucy's mood on whether we would have a wedding or not. "I'm not in a hurry to get married, so there is no need for you to apologize on her behalf." Ian's smile froze when I refused to accept the apology.

"You can't be mad at Lucy just because she stopped you from cheating when you knew that money had to be earned by you, Hailey. You…"

"I'm not mad at her. I just don't feel like saving up for that fifty million anymore," I interrupted him.

Ian wanted to continue lecturing me, but choked back his words with his mouth agape. He looked at me anxiously. "Why are you giving up? If things have been really difficult, I… I don't mind secretly loaning you some money…"

I looked at him closely. Why had I never realized he could act so well? Ian had been giving me trouble behind my back, but acted like he was deeply in love when facing me. This reminded me of how I had nearly drunk myself to death just to secure a contract for a shopping mall development project.

The moment the contract was signed, the project was halted because of an issue during the assessment stage. Rumors of the land having problems and the previous developer losing money on the land started to spread from nowhere. I was branded as a conwoman in the industry, and my investors started to pull out. Not only was I left with an unprofitable land, but I had to deal with compensation for breach of contract as well.

Ian had fought for me then and worked hard at safeguarding my reputation. Who would have thought that he was the one behind everything? Yes, he was the one who said that he had plotted all of this.

That night, I heard Ian on his phone when I passed by his study on my way to the kitchen for a glass of water. "Stop the plan against Hailey's company. With her current reputation, she won't be able to put the money together even if we stood by and did nothing."

I wiped away the tears from the corner of my eye. He no longer had to do anything of the sort because I no longer wanted to marry him. I was about to walk away when I heard him pick up another call from Lucy. "Ian." Lucy's coquettish voice was heard coming from the other end of the call. "I got caught by the butler for sneaking into the underground casino. Can you help cover for me?"

"You just can't stop making me worry, can you?" Ian said adoringly. "You know our family rules don't allow you to do something like that, but you still had to sneak in there. Fine. I'll help you, but this is the only time."

It sounded like the strict family rules applied only to me. I was reminded of how they treated me when they stopped me from loaning the money with such righteousness. I turned away because I no longer wanted to listen to their conversation. When I returned to my bedroom, I sent another message to that number. [I'm ready to leave.]

After that, I pulled out my luggage and started packing.

"What are you doing? Where are you going?"

  • Waking Up from a Reverie   Chapter 11

Our wedding was held on an island with the sun, sand, and blue sky. I was wearing a white wedding gown with my arms around Cole's as we walked toward the priest. I looked at the man next to me. He was handsome, gentle, and had given me a new life and a home. However, Ian made an appearance at our wedding in an unexpected way. When we were about to exchange wedding rings, the big screen in the church suddenly started playing a video, in which Lucy, whom I had not seen for a long time, suddenly appeared. She was locked up in a dark room, looking withered and crazy. "That's impossible! How can Hailey Salvatore still be alive and about to get married? No! Impossible! I don't believe you!”"She's about to marry another man, Ian. How can you bear to kill me for her? Why are you being so cruel?!" At the end of the video, Ian stabbed Lucy through the heart, and her blood splattered onto the screen. The sight shocked all of the guests. I was stunned. Was Lucy Carter dead? Cole immediately o

Ian did not give up. He messaged and called me using another number after I blocked him. The messages remained the same. He would apologize, be repentant, or make all sorts of promises to me, but I ignored all of them. After that, he started using the most basic ways to try to woo me. Ian would appear on time at the doors of my office building every morning in a luxury car with the trunk filled with the freshest roses. He would stand next to the car with a bouquet in his hand while waiting for me to appear. I became the main source of gossip for my company's employees."Signorino Ian is here again with 999 roses. How romantic of him.""How is Miss Linetti going to choose between two men who are both tall, handsome, and rich?"I walked stoically into the office as I listened to the gossip. I never once accepted the flowers he brought me and I got the cleaner to take care of all of them. When Ian realized the flowers had no impact on me, he started giving me all sorts of gifts that

Ian looked at me in a daze as misery started to fill his eyes. I held onto Cole's arms and prepared to leave when he suddenly called out from behind me, "Hailey!" I paused my steps, but did not look back. Ian quickly caught up to me and stopped me from leaving. "It's you, isn't it? You're Hailey!" He looked agitated as he grabbed my shoulder with great force. "You're not dead… You're really not dead…"Cole quickly came forward to fling Ian's hand away from me. "As far as I know, Miss Hailey Salvatore is dead, Ian Cabello. You were the one who buried her with your own hands!" Cole held me protectively in his arms and said coldly, "This woman is my fiancée, Willow Linetti. Please stop harassing her or I'll be taking action against you."Ian was rendered speechless. Cole was right. Everyone knew that Hailey was dead. What right did Ian have to claim that she was Hailey? I tidied up myself as Ian had messed up my clothes from grabbing me, and I looked at him coolly. "I think you've got

Wilco Real Estate became even more renowned after we successfully bid on the South City land. I became the rising star of the industry, and Cole even organized a celebration party for me. He kept by my side throughout the party, helping me fend off malicious prodding into my identity."Are you tired?" He asked me in a low voice.I shook my head. "I'm fine." Physical exhaustion was nothing if I could enjoy the feeling of being in control."Ian Cabello is here," Cole suddenly announced. I looked in the direction Cole was looking, and I saw Ian standing in the corner, staring back at me. He lost so much weight that his once-fitted suit now hung loosely on him, no longer looking like the handsome man he once was. Ian was now completely different from the high and mighty heir of the Cabellos that I once knew.I looked away. "Ignore him." However, Ian walked straight toward me as the guests moved aside to make way for him. When he stood in front of him, he spoke in a hoarse voice, "Haile

  • Waking Up from a Reverie   Chapter 7

Three months after my 'death', a new company known as Wilco Real Estate appeared with me, Willow Linetti, as its representative. Cole gave me a huge amount of money and most of his connections and told me, "The stage has been set. It's all up to you now." I did not let him down. Using my past experience, it was not long before I was able to make a name for myself in the real estate business. I managed to win several major projects very quickly, and Wilco Real Estate's name started to make its way around the industry. As for the Cabellos, their business started to face a decline. One day, Cole came to me with a tender. "The Cabellos have their eyes set on that piece of land in South City." He looked at me. "Are you interested?" I was reminded of how I had spent so much effort on that land, only for my plans to be ruined by Ian. I smiled coldly, "Of course." Not only did I want it, but I also wanted Ian to be utterly defeated. On the day of the tender, I made sure to give myself a

Ian's basement was dark, humid and filled with the stench of blood. Lucy was tied to a cross and trembling all over. She had been pampered all her life and had never encountered such a situation before. "Ian… Big brother… What are you doing? Put me down right now…"Lucy acted sweetly in an attempt to convince Ian to let her go. He walked toward her slowly with an icy look in his eye. "Big brother?" His sneer was filled with sarcasm. "I don't have a sister who killed my wife." His words made Lucy's face turn pale. "I… I have no idea what you're talking about…" She was still trying to give excuses. "Hailey… Didn't she die in an accident?"Ian grabbed her face. "Accident?" He motioned for his subordinates to drag the men who had caused the fire in front of her. They had been beaten into a pulp and were now unrecognizable. "They admitted to everything! You! You were the one who gave orders to them to kill Hailey in that fire!"When Lucy saw those men, she knew there was no point denyi
