Walking Away to Happiness

Rachel, the new secretary, sat at her desk, sipping coffee and going through her emails. Flora stormed in, her heels clicking on the glossy floor, as the door burst open.

Rachel raised her head, surprised. "Can I help you?" she inquired

Flora scoffed. "Who the hell are you?" she inquired

"I'm Rachel, the new secretary," she introduced herself

The Flora's face darkened with disdain. "You don't even know who I am, do you?" she exclaimed

"Should I?" Rachel inquired, perplexed

"I'm your boss’s girlfriend, and I can't believe you would stop me like th upat," Flora snarled

 Rachel's eyes widened as she understood what she had done

 "I'm so sorry, I had no idea," she responded, humbly apologizing

Flora sighed and rolled her eyes. "I’m Flora, let it stick in your brain…Just make sure it doesn't happen again," she added coldly.

“All right ma” Rachel nodded

Flora huffed and brushed by Rachel, grumbling to herself about how inept the staff was

Rachel couldn't help but feel frustrated as she watched her walk away. She had only recently started working there and was already being treated harshly. But she realized it was all part of the job and that she had to stay professional even when dealing with tough people

Gregor who was inside his office noticed the ruckus and stepped out of his office

 "What's going on here?" he inquired

Flora glared at him, enraged. "Your secretary is being incredibly rude and won't let me see you!

Gregor looked shocked at Rachel. "Rachel, what's going on?

Rachel inhaled deeply. "I apologize, sir; I didn't realize Miss Flora was your girlfriend.

Gregor looked at Flora. "Why didn't you just tell her  who you were?

Flora drew her arms across her chest. "I shouldn't have to do it!" She should recognize me!

Gregor let out a sigh. "Flora, Rachel was just doing her job, moreover she’s new here, you don’t expect her to know you" Please treat her well.

Flora huffed and muttered under her breath went inside his private office, she couldn't dispute Rachel's professionalism leaving Gregor and Rachel outside. Gregor explained to Rachel that Flora was his girlfriend and could be difficult at times.

Rachel graciously nodded and smiled, but she couldn't believe how disrespectful the girlfriend had been and wondered where he met her. She made a mental point to be more cautious in the future.

Immediately Gregor entered his office, Flora faced him and asked but not without glaring at him from head to toe

 “Why didn’t you pick up my call?’’ she asked

“ I was in an important Zoom meeting, so I couldn’t” Gregor replied sincerely

“So you are trying to tell me that meeting is more important than me?” she snapped

“No babe, but you should understand these things; I don’t want to be disrespectful and ….

 “Who cares, you have a girlfriend to attend to they should understand that” Flora cut in

 “Okay okay, its fine, I’m sorry. Let us not start our day with quarrel” He pleaded as he placed his hands on her shoulders

Flora rolled her eyes and still frowning sat down on the couch which is not so far from her. Gregor sat close to her, took her hand into his, looked at her lovingly, and said to her

“You look so beautiful and this dress made your grey eyes more noticeable and I love it” He said smiling and at the same time rubbing her hands 

“Hmm….thanks” She replied reluctantly 

“What do you want me to do for you?” Gregor asked because she was still frowning even after what he said to her

Flora scoffed and answered “You are asking as if you are going to do it” Well I don’t like that girl outside"

“She’s my secretary, you don’t have to like her. She’s here to do her job, nothing else. Listen Baby girl, I  understand your dissatisfaction with the new secretary, but I want you to know that I will not fire her.” Gregor replied

“Why not? She’s rude and will not do a great job. I saw the way she was looking at you, I don’t trust her a bit” Flora protested

"That is not correct. She's doing a fantastic job, and I need someone that is knowledgeable and takes their job seriously. The former secretary was fired because she couldn't keep upwith the workload and didn't take her duties seriously enough." Gregor explained 

"I don't think so. I believe you simply desired to replace her with someone younger and more attractive." She seethed 

"That is not at all the case. I need someone who can handle the job's responsibilities, and the new secretary is doing exactly that. I understand your disappointment, but I can't let my personal life interfere with my professional obligations." Gregor calmly said 

"I just don't like her; she makes me uncomfortable." She cooed

"I understand, but I can assure you that she is an excellent employee." I apologize if this offends you, but I can't let my personal feelings interfere with my job. Can we please move past this and enjoy the rest of our day together?" He asked 

"Okay. But don't believe this is the end of the story. We'll discuss it further later." Flora said threatening 

 "All OK. But for the time being, let us just attempt to enjoy each other's company." Gregor who was tired of the whole situation situation 

“Anyways, I know talking to you about it is going to be a waste of time,” She said standing up at the same time and picked up her handbag.

“Are you leaving? Let’s have lunch together since it’s almost noon” Gregor suggested

"I can't even eat anything." I'm furious with you right now." She said looking at him

“I understand you are upset. But please, let’s have lunch together” He begged 

“I don’t want to eat with you, I will have lunch with the girls” She protested

Gregor seeing her mind was already made up, he decided not to persuade her any further and allow her go eat with her friends. He watched as she leaves the office swaying her hips and without a hug or kiss. He sighed as he left his office for the elevator.
