Chapter 6

Author: Ann Chase
When he woke up again, Jack was alone. No one was by his side.

On the nightstand were Hazel’s favorite yellow roses, their scent filling the room.

She was easy to appease. The moment she saw roses, she could not help but smile.

Then, without him even having to apologize, she would cheer herself up and forgive him.

Next to the yellow roses sat his favorite caramel iced coffee from the shop he had mentioned to Alex countless times.

Every time they made plans to go shopping together, they would buy iced coffee from that shop first and sip it while they walked.

Jack knew Hazel and Alex gave him those things. Unfortunately, seeing them only disgusted him.

“Mr. Brook, a lawyer’s here to see you.”

Jack saw the divorce papers in her hand as Anna brought Patricia in.

“I’ve drafted the papers according to your instructions. Take a look and see if anything needs changing,” Patricia said as she handed them to him.

“Also, I’ve found buyers for your shares and the house you wanted me to sell. If everything checks out, once you sign, the money will be in your account within forty-eight hours.”

“Looks good.”

Jack could barely hold the pen, but he still forced himself to sign all three different documents.

“Ms. Lawson, take the share purchase agreement and the house contract with you. Once I get Hazel to sign the divorce papers, I’ll send them straight to your office.

“Could you get me the divorce decree within three days? I’ll pay extra. Whatever it takes.”

She looked at him and let out a sigh.

“I was there when you two tied the knot, you know. Everyone said you were so in love and that you’d be together forever. So, how are you two already divorcing after only five years...?”

Then, she shook her head and said, “Don’t worry, Mr. Brook. As long as Mrs. Brook signs soon, I’ll have the divorce decree in your hands within three days.”

The hospital room door was pushed open, and Hazel walked in.

“Divorce decree?”

When she saw Patricia, her frown deepened.

“Ms. Lawson, what are you doing here?”

“I asked her to come,” Jack said.

He pointed to the divorce papers on the bedside table. “I’ve already signed. You should sign soon, too.”

“Why the hurry?”

Hazel walked to the bedside. Her heart ached when she saw his ashen face.

“Are you still blaming me for making you donate blood to Ben? I know you’re upset, but a life was on the line.

“Ben already got into that car accident because of you. You can’t seriously want him to lose his life too, can you?

“He’s only twenty-one. He’s got his whole life ahead of him. You wouldn’t have the heart to let that happen either, would you?”

“No, I wouldn’t,” he said as he shook his head.

“So, I don’t blame you. To make it up to him, I already got the divorce papers and signed them. I figured a divorce certificate would make a nice little apology gift. He’ll be over the moon, don’t you think?”

“Jack, you’re really sweet.”

She picked up the pen and quickly signed the papers. Then, she handed them to Patricia.

Patricia took them and immediately left the hospital.

“Ben said he wanted to come thank you.”

Right after Hazel said that, Bennett walked in.

“Mr. Brook, Hazel told me that if you hadn’t donated blood, I’d already be dead. I came to thank you. I even got you a bouquet of lilies.”

He held the lilies out in front of Jack.

Instantly, Jack felt his throat tighten. He could barely even breathe.

He instinctively knocked the flowers to the floor violently. “Get out! Take them away!”

“Hmm.”Jack felt exhausted. He could not even speak any words.Hazel wanted to say something to him, but she realized she did not even have a chance to do it.After a few steps, Jack said to her, “Hazel, what happened today is on you. We’re done for good. “Perhaps we’ve been done for a long time.”With that, he left the tux shop.Hazel stood there frozen. She could not move a single step.Meanwhile, at the hospital, after getting bandaged up, Jack wanted to go visit Trisha.Isla frowned. “Don’t worry. My mother is fine.”“But she got traumatized because of me. I must apologize.”She smiled and said, “Are you worried my mom won’t accept you?“Relax, she will accept you. We’re already married. We just haven’t had the wedding yet. Even if she doesn’t like it, she won’t do anything to you.”Trisha emerged at the door, startling Jack as she said, “Hmph, you sure know me well.”He quickly got off the hospital bed. “Mrs. Jenkins.”“Are you still calling me Mrs. Jenkins? Seeing Jack getting the worst of it, Isla picked her moment and kicked Bennett square in the chest.“Ugh!”The kick came out of nowhere. Bennett fell down hard, spitting out a mouthful of blood. At the same time, her bodyguards rushed in and pinned him to the floor, restraining him completely.“Don’t move, or don’t blame us for what happens next!”“Let me go! Jack, if you’ve got the guts, fight me one-on-one! What kind of man are you to hide behind these guys?!“Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins, let me tell you a secret! Jack is infertile! Aren’t you afraid the Jenkins family will have no heir?”“Shut your mouth!”Isla glared at him and said viciously, “Even if Jack really can’t have children, I won’t divorce him! Whether we have kids or not doesn’t matter to me at all. All that matters is that Jack loves me.”Bennett laughed when he heard that. “Haha, why? How does Jack, a divorced man, get to be this happy?“He finds someone who loves him this much, and I can’t? I’m barely in my twen

Meanwhile, Jack and Isla’s mother, Trisha Jenkins, were at the tux shop.“Mrs. Jenkins, what do you think of this suit?”“Mm, not bad.” She was clearly satisfied. “Go try it on. It should fit you well.”“Okay, give me a moment.”He went into the fitting room to try on the suit. He had only just started to change when he heard a scream outside.“Help! Oh my god, what are you doing?!”“Mrs. Jenkins, watch out! Someone, come quick!”“Sir, please calm down! Nobody has to get hurt here.”Jack pulled the curtain open and stepped out. “What’s going on?”He saw Bennett holding a fruit knife to Trisha’s throat.“Bennett, let Mrs. Jenkins go!”Trisha’s face was pale. She was so scared that her voice was trembling as she said, “Young man, whatever you want, just say it. If I can give it to you, I’ll do my best. I’m old. I can’t handle being scared like this!”Bennett stared at Jack and smiled wickedly.“You’ll give me whatever I want?” “Then, I want your daughter not to be marr

After Hazel was thrown out of Isla’s place, her phone rang.It was Deborah, her secretary, calling.“Ms. Fresco, do you have time to come into the office today?”“Didn’t I say I’d be busy these days and not to bother me? I’m swamped!”“But you really should come in. Something’s happened at the company.”Deborah sounded anxious. Hazel knew she was not going to be able to smooth things over with Jack anytime soon, so she had no choice but to drive straight to the office. The moment she arrived, Deborah came rushing over.“Ms. Fresco, there’s a problem with the company’s financial records. Someone stole money from the company. The finance team ran the numbers, and it’s about fifty million dollars.”“Have you figured out who did it?”“Yes, we have.”Deborah handed Hazel the surveillance footage.“It was Mr. Oldham.”“Bennett!”The moment she saw the man in the video, she gritted her teeth in fury. She had not expected him to be so brazen as to embezzle nearly fifty million

“Isla, you actually slept with Jack!”She charged at her like a madwoman and tried to hit her.The Jenkins family bodyguards rushed over and pinned her down.“Ms. Fresco, calm down, or we’ll have to ask you to leave.”“Impossible! Jack loves me. He wouldn’t sleep with you. He wouldn’t!”“The evidence is right here. He’s my husband now. Me sleeping with him is perfectly normal, isn’t it?”Isla stood up with a smile and walked over to her. “Hazel, I should actually thank you. If it weren’t for you, I never would’ve gotten what I wanted with Jack. He’s a good guy. I swear I’ll never betray him. “As for you, you’ve got that intern of yours. That can’t be too bad either, right? So, why come here and stir up trouble?”“I don’t love Bennett at all. He and I are done!”“What’s that got to do with me? All I can tell you is that Jack and I are never breaking up. Thanks for handing him right to me.”“Isla, don’t get ahead of yourself! What’s so great about you? Jack is just some guy

Back at Isla’s place, Jack had gradually fallen in love with her over the time they spent together. She was patient and considerate toward him, yet cold as ice to everyone else.He was the only one who ever saw her smile. When she did, her tiny dimples would show, and it was adorable. He loved to pinch her cheek and tease her, asking, “Isla, do you know you look really beautiful when you smile?”“I didn’t know. Very few people have seen me smile.”“Then, doesn’t that mean that I’ve struck the jackpot? Because I see you smiling almost every day.”“Yeah, you did.”She wrapped her arms around him and asked, “What do you want for dinner tonight?”“Anything’s fine.”“I’ll cook.”“You can cook?” he asked in shock. She lowered her head and said in a more tender tone, “Mm. I’m good at a lot of things.”He blushed. “Don’t say things like that.”She pretended not to know. “Like what?”He pushed her away. “You know what I mean.”She loved seeing him blush and wanted to tease him a
