Chapter 4

A deafening clang followed by the shrill sound of metal snapping came from the direction of the playground.

Mia trembled in my arms and began to cry softly. "Mommy, I'm scared..."

I held Mia tightly and saw several security guards pry open the playground gate before filing inside, carrying wooden boards and buckets of paint.

The leader of the security guards shouted, "Mrs. Lowell said we have to make some changes overnight and make the place look more presentable."

When Mia saw the playground gate being destroyed, she suddenly broke free from my arms and ran out the door by herself.

She cried, "My playground..."

I hurried after her and scooped her into my arms.

I shouted hoarsely, "Stop! What gives you the right to break into my playground? This is my private property!"

I anxiously called out to Kaiser through our mind-link, while my wolf paced restlessly back and forth.

Fortunately, Kaiser quickly reassured me and said that he would come over immediately. He promised me that everything would be all right.

I calmed down slightly.

But then, I saw Grace walking toward me, draped in an extravagant cloak. "Oh, Selena. You can't bear to let it go, can you?"

I stared at her, my voice hoarse. "Look what you've done! This is Mia's healing space. The moonflowers and the healing array must not be messed with."

A vicious glint flashed in Grace's eyes as she scoffed. "A healing space? A sickly little brat like her doesn't deserve to hog such a nice place."

She jerked her chin toward the security guards behind her. "Leave the moonflowers and smash everything else. I don't want to see any of these unlucky things still here tomorrow."

I rushed forward to stop them, but I was firmly restrained and could only watch helplessly as everything was reduced to ruins.

The smile on Grace's face grew increasingly smug. Unable to take it anymore, I tried to confront her. However, she slapped me hard across the face.

Mia sank her teeth into Grace's hand and stood protectively in front of me. "Don't hit my mommy!"

Grace screamed in pain, her gaze turning cold as she casually ordered, "Someone throw this little beast into the pool!"

My eyes widened, and I frantically tried to stop them. Unfortunately, I was no match for the security guards' strength.

Amid the struggle, Mia's complexion grew increasingly worse.

I thought fearfully, "Oh no… Her asthma is acting up!"

I hurriedly pulled out her asthma medication, but Grace snatched it away and threw it onto the ground. She stomped her high heel onto the pills, grinding them beneath her shoe.

"Sorry. My foot slipped," she said tauntingly.

I desperately lunged for them, only to have her heel come down on my hand.

Grace sneered and barked another order. "Don't just stand there. Throw her in and teach her a lesson!"

The two security guards exchanged a glance, picked Mia up, and prepared to throw her into the freezing pool.

If they threw Mia into the pool now, she would die!

Pinned to the ground and nearly overcome with despair, I roared, "Don't you dare! My mate is Alpha Kaiser! She's his only daughter!"

The next moment, mocking laughter erupted around me.

Grace laughed so hard that tears streamed down her face. "Kaiser isn't just the chairman of the Werewolf Council. He's also the Alpha King! His Luna is definitely a noble she-wolf. How dare you pretend to be his Luna!"

The crowd began whispering among themselves.

"How dare a mistress try to pass herself off as Kaiser's Luna? She must have a death wish."

"Once Kaiser finds out, he'll skin her alive."

Grace gave the order again. "Throw her in! That'll wake her up and stop her daydreaming."

I struggled desperately, but it was useless. I could only watch helplessly as Mia was about to be thrown into the pool.

Her little face was filled with terror as she cried out for me in panic. My heart felt as though it were being cut to pieces, and my wolf was equally consumed by despair.

Just one second before Mia was about to be thrown in, an overwhelming aura belonging to a supreme Alpha descended upon us.

"Who dares touch my mate and Mia?"
