Reene screamed, letting her legs take over once again.

This time though, her body forgot how slow of a runner it was, because she possibly ran with the speed of light.

The scream was unending as her hands flailed in the air, shock filling her entire being.

A wolf? A wolf?!

A freaking wolf!!!

What the actual heck?!

This had to be some kind of creepy dream, because what?!

Werewolves weren't real. Heck, they were just some kind of made up creatures, right?

But what she'd seen…

That certainly said werewolves.

The sound of growls could be heard, shedding skins echoed in her ears, weak whimpering followed.

Oh no no no.

Shoot, no.

This wasn't a dream. It wasn't!

She stopped screaming to let some air in her lungs, but her feet didn't dare to stop.

It ran faster than she ever thought was possible.

Especially when she heard loud footsteps behind her.

Oh gosh, the steps… Someone— no, one of the wolves was following her.

And of course, being the stupid female people knew horror movies characters to be, she dared turn.

Her breath caught at the sight of a brown wolf running with as much speed an animal like itself could move.

Fear crawled up her skin and a loud scream erupted.

The biggest wolf she recognized as Zayne, was fighting off two wolves.

He didn't seem to notice the one chasing after her.

Not until her scream, because he finished off the two, their blood spilling everywhere, then chased after the one following her.

Reene looked straight, her heart hammering louder than her screams.

In the distance, a cottage came into view.

Without second thoughts, she rushed towards it, not bothering to turn back.

The moment the door stood in front of her, her fist pounded on it louder than ever like her life depended on it.

Because heck yeah, it did.

“Help! Open up! Please! Please!” She cried, pounding louder and faster, not looking to check on the status of the wild animal that'd been chasing after her.

The rate her heart echoed shook her in ways she didn't know was possible.

If blood wasn't furiously rushing through her veins, the weakness would've made her legs give up.

“Open up! Help me!”

Why wasn't anyone answering? Was no one home?

Was she going to die this way?

Just when she was about to give up, the door swung open.

She didn't give whoever it was a chance to speak before bolting in, shutting it behind her and immediately pressing her back to the door.

Her chest rose and fell rapidly.

Breathing was becoming a problem, but she tried to let it flow through her body.

The body that seemed to tremble more than ever.

She mustn't die.

No, she couldn't.

Her life might not be important to many people, but nope, she didn't want to die.

“What do you think you're doing?” A deep voice called, smooth but cold and spoke of nothing but a man of power.

She didn't answer yet.

How could she when her body seemed at the peak of being traumatized.

Then, she let her ears search for noise from outside by pressing it against the door.

“What do—”

“Shh.” She cut him off.

What she needed was silence, not questioning.

Thankfully, he heeded, not saying a word as she listened.

No sound came.

Minutes passed before she was certain the chaos outside had subsided.

That calmed her a little, though the shock still lingered.

A wolf? What the actual heck?

How on earth was that possible?

Their height, growls, claws, teeth, fur... Oh goodness, they were actually real. She hasn't been in some kind of terrible nightmare.

And the one who'd been chasing after her (the thought made her shiver).

What would've happened if this person hadn't come to her rescue?

Would she be dead by now?

Oh goodness.

Her gaze lifted to her savior, and in front of her stood a shirtless, undeniably handsome man.

He was tall (far taller than she was), with beautiful dark blonde hair and blue eyes.

With an uncovered upper body, she could almost find herself gasping at the eight packs he possessed.

His chest was just as broad as his shoulders, giving him the type of look one would only assume from a fictional character.

All in all, she couldn't deny he was handsome.

But how was that what one who was almost eaten alive could think about.

Instead, her hand flew to clutch her chest, where her heart pounded louder than she'd been with his door (something she didn't think was possible).

'Oh heart, this isn't the time to have hypertension. It seems you survived the monsters, so please, pretty please with Beyoncé’s sudden album release on top.'

Of course, it ignored her.

“Can I get a glass of water?” She breathed out.

“What are you doing here?” His tone was stern, it made her brows dip.

Still, she couldn't blame him.

That was how one was expected to reply when a female just came pounding on your door.

“Actually, I was being chased by wolves. Werewolves!” She explained, expecting to see him as alerted as she was.

But no change took over that expressionless look.

“There was this guy who was talking to me, and he just— like appeared from nowhere, like— three guys following me and like— all of them are talking about me being dinner, then he like— appears and shifts and like—” she ran a hand through her hair.

Oh shit, she must sound stupid at the moment.

How was one expected to explain meeting with actual wolves?

Human wolves.

His eyes swept over her from head to toe, lingering on her boobs for a moment too long, before returning to her face.

But something lit in his eyes. Something she couldn't quite place.

Something that made her frown.

“You seem famished. Spend the night.” Without waiting for an answer, he moved deeper into the wooden cottage, disappearing into a place before reappearing with a glass of water.

She took it from him quickly, because goodness, that was what she needed.

Within seconds, the entire content disappeared in her belly.

Normally, she'd have declined his offer to stay the night, especially considering how her house was just a few minutes away.

But after what happened with the wolves, she couldn't imagine staying alone.

At the moment, she needed to be with someone.

Anyone.

“Where do I sleep?” She asked after returning the glass.

“In there.” He gestured to a room.

With a nod, her feet began moving to the door.

It stopped when she realized, “I don't know your name yet. Who are you?”

A smirk pulled at his lips. “You don't want to know who I am, but my name is Jaxon.”

The way he said it gave her creeps.

She couldn't even find herself replying, instead just left to the room, though she felt his gaze stay on her the entire time.

Oh no, morning had to arrive soon so she could be out of there and go home.

A lot had happened that day already.

Sleep and Reene became two worlds apart that night. She couldn't stop her thoughts from filling with the kiss. Why had he done it?And why had she allowed him to? She'd have used him being drunk as his excuse, but then, didn't people when tipsy, do what they'd want to do while sober? Then there comes she, who was very much sober, yet still did what she shouldn't have.Reene groaned, all that occupying her mind till the sun rose. With a sigh, she left the bed to take a shower then brushed her teeth before changing into a red tank top with blue jean trousers, and was out of the room. She paused to stare at Jaxon's door for a moment, contemplating whether or not to give it a knock. What would he say? What would she even say?‘Just wanted to check on you. Having a hangover?’Or;‘Hey, I'm here to ask what last night's kiss was all about.’Both thoughts made her cringe. It'd probably be best to just head her way.Reene left to the breakfast table, where she barely touched her food, distu

Jaxon sat in the bar, a glass of wine in hand, the other holding a cigarette between its fingers, while Owen just stood, confused at what disturbed his boss so much.Jaxon, on the other hand, had his thoughts drifted to Reene. He wasn't mad at her for doing what no one else would dare do, by entering his brother's room, but because that was a part of his life he didn't want her seeing. The despair. Hatred. Fear. Hurt. All those emotions associated with that room, was something he wouldn't want her seeing. He didn't want to scare her off.And that itself… scared him.Jaxon gulped in the glass, pouring himself another one.*Owen drove a drunk Jaxon home, which only increased his level of confusion. He had rarely to never seen his boss so drunk that he wouldn't be able to do much.He just had his head leaned against the window, eyes shut. What was wrong?‘I just leave for one week and Mr Don is already drinking himself to unconsciousness.’ Owen thought with a head shake.Once they reach

Reene headed straight to the kitchen, and with the help of some workers, managed to find ingredients she'd need. This was going to be terrific. She was going to make him grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup, as that was Jake's apology meal when they were younger. And it also helped comfort her after her parents' death. So, that'd do.All day, Reene made the meal, putting as many efforts and emotions to it.Once done, she decorated it beautifully on a plate, added a glass of wine, then set both on a tray before beginning the journey to Jaxon's room. This was thrilling. It was the first time in so long since she placed so much time in making a meal.Hopefully he will would appreciate it.Reene was about to reach the elevator, when Inder came to view, phone in hand.“Whoa, what's the occasion? And do you seriously plan on eating this deliciousness alone?” He had a grin on.“Thanks.”“Can I join you? Please.” His lips pushed out slightly. “Sorry, but I'm not making it for myself.” S

The elevator separated and Reene got out, puffing out annoyed heavy breathing like she'd just completed a marathon race. But heck, never had she felt so furious before. The way he'd spoken to her.Telling her to ‘Get out’ like she was one of the people he could control.Just ‘cause she was living under his roof didn't give him any right to speak in that manner.More annoying was the fact she didn't even stand to protest or at least let him know he couldn't shout at her.Instead, her dumb self just walked away, looking like some kind of weakling.Reene felt herself grow more annoyed with that thought. She wasn't sure if she wanted to be under the same roof as him at the moment. She was going to go out.Anywhere.Maybe even Anna's.Anything but with the asshole who thought he could act however he felt right with anyone.Annoying.Reene was lost in thought that she was so close to bumping into someone.Thankfully, she noticed Umrai's figure quick enough to make her feet stop.“Umrai? It had been a week since Reene's confliction on what Jaxon's definition of ‘special’ was.To make things weirder, she'd barely seen him, so her body chose to have dreams no female should be having.Which meant whenever she got a glance of him passing by, her heart would drift close to an explosion. And things only worsened with him always busy and with someone ninety percent of the time, so he'd just glance at her, then get back to business.Sometimes he didn't even look at her.But the times he did, Reene could be sure she was nearing a heart attack.Well, that day was one of the days she didn't get to see him, which she wasn't sure if to say was good or bad (probably good). After breakfast that day, Umrai had to head to work with some of the other girls, leaving Reene all alone.Lisa still hadn't been around since who knows when, and Reene wasn't really familiar with the rest of the girls (well, except Nora and everyone knows why that option won't work), so once again, all alone.Af

“You look lost in thought.” A female whose name Reene had totally forgotten, pointed out as they ate breakfast.“No, I’m just tired.” Reene replied with a small smile.Certainly not true. She was lost in thought on Jaxon's words. He saw her to be someone special to him? Did he? And if he did, then what was his definition of special. She didn't want to jump into any conclusion that'd prove dumb. But wasn't it kind of obvious? Or was it?Gosh, this was starting to get annoying.“Reene.” Umrai called, startling her a littleShe raised her head from the food, to all the eyes on her.Even Nora (though it was more of a scowl).“Hmm?”“What's wrong?” “Maybe she's plotting to snatch some girl's long crush.” Nora scoffed, arms crossing tightly over her chest. At least Reene could be glad because that distracted them from Reene to Nora.Soon, they were chatting on different things till Reene's distractedness was forgotten.Thank goodness.Once everyone had finished eating, they left one at a
