Chapter 8

Autor: Summer Dream
After Raelor came out of the emergency chamber, he did not listen to a single word of my explanation. He directly issued a confinement order.

Two high-ranking wolf guards stood at the entrance of the residence, sealing every exit.

"Freya, stay here and reflect on your actions," Raelor said coldly. "Until you realize your mistake and are willing to kneel and apologize to Seraphine."

He confiscated my communicator, cutting off all contact between me and the outside world.

He assumed that as a physically fragile Healer, once deprived of these, I would have no choice but to obey him and let him control me.

However, he forgot something. I sat alone in the empty stone house, listening to the steady footsteps of the guards outside.

Late the next night, Raelor returned. There was a faint herbal scent clinging to him. It was the calming pregnancy incense Seraphine often used.

"Seraphine is out of danger," he said. "But the pup was affected. It has become restless. You should be grateful the pup survived. Otherwise…"

He did not finish the sentence. The meaning was clear.

Seeing that I merely listened in silence, he assumed I had realized my mistake. His tone softened slightly, though it felt more like condescension.

"Attend tomorrow’s ceremony on time. I will tell the pack that your physical discomfort led to the incident. Considering you are about to become my mate—the future Luna—kneeling will not be necessary. But you will apologize to her before the pack and promise to use your healing gift to safeguard the pup.

"Also, Seraphine prefers to have more attendees. All pack members will attend tomorrow."

I looked at him. Words lodged in my throat.

Raelor frowned, clearly displeased by my silence. "This is your only chance to preserve your position as my mate and future Luna. Freya, do not test my patience."

He tossed a cheap ceremonial robe onto the floor and turned to leave. The sharp click of the lock echoed once more.

The next day, the full moon was nearly upon us.

I picked the lock.

Using the potent sedative powder I had hidden beneath my fingernails in advance, I dispersed it through the ventilation slit and quietly rendered the two guards unconscious.

I did not put on the robe that symbolized Luna status. Instead, I changed into fitted black attire suitable for movement.

Then I gave one last look at the place I had lived for five years.

Without looking back, I slipped through the hidden path behind the mountain and disappeared into the morning mist.

Meanwhile, outside the Healing Sanctum, Raelor carefully helped a seemingly- frail Seraphine into the carriage, preparing to head toward the altar.

On the way, he attempted to summon me through the Mind Link, issuing a command.

The connection felt empty. There was no response.

He did not think much of it. He assumed I was still sulking. He sent me a message, impatience evident.

"Have the ceremonial offerings been arranged? When are you arriving? Don't make everyone wait!"

No reply.

He scrolled back through our previous messages. Only then did he notice that for the past month, almost every message was from me.

"When are you returning to the den tomorrow? I made rabbit stew.

"Which beast fangs do you prefer for the ceremony decorations?

"For the altar flowers, I chose moonlight orchids. Is that alright?"

His replies were always the same: "Anything. You decide. Whatever."

The last message I sent had asked whether he would return for dinner. He had not even replied with "whatever".

A sudden, powerful unease clenched around his heart.

The last time he mentioned providing Seraphine with his bloodline, my gaze had been calmer than ever before.

From that day on, I had stopped initiating conversation. I had stopped waiting for him to return.

The unease intensified. He did not even bother changing into ceremonial attire. Leaving Seraphine behind, he shifted into wolf form and sprinted toward the square.

When he arrived at the altar plaza, his friends and his mother, Vaelira Thorne, were waiting near the entrance.

"Why haven’t you changed into ceremonial robes? Didn’t Freya come with you?" Vaelira asked, frowning at his disheveled state.

Raelor paused, forcing down the pounding in his chest. "She should already be at the altar."

However, there was no sign of me anywhere near the altar. Besides my absence, there were no pack members gathered to witness the ceremony. Only a few servants lingered, cleaning.

He grabbed a passing elder named Radley Burbridge. "The ceremony is about to begin. Where is Freya? Where is everyone?"

Elder Radley looked confused.

"Alpha, wasn’t the ceremony canceled half a month ago? Freya personally submitted the request to the Council of Elders. We approved it."

Raelor froze.

The ceremony… had been canceled?

The room fell quiet."Was it worth it?" I asked. He looked at me and nodded faintly. "It was.""You felt how painful that strike was too, didn’t you?" he said with a weak smile. "When you damaged your wolf soul to save me back then… was it worse than this?"I took his hand, trying to channel a little healing energy into him. "Stop talking. Rest."Raelor shook his head. "What you said yesterday… I thought about it all night. I destroyed us. I didn’t know how to cherish you. I didn’t even understand what love was…"Today I only meant to tell you that I truly regret it. But the moment that rogue pulled out the poisoned blade, there was only one thought in my head: I can’t let you get hurt again."I went still. If this had been in the past, those words would have moved me. I might have softened. I might even have turned back, but my heart already belonged to someone else.Raelor read the silence in my eyes, yet he still asked the question that had been weighing on him. "If… there

On the sofa, Kael pulled me tightly into his arms, pain and jealousy flickering in his eyes.I laughed softly. His jealousy was obvious.Raelor had never been like that. Even when I carried out missions alongside other male wolves, he would only say coldly, "Do as you wish."Now, simply because Raelor had appeared, Kael’s possessiveness surged. Love and indifference were probably just like that.I leaned closer, wrapping my arms around his. "Don’t be angry. You’re about to have a mate. Anger makes you look less handsome."He pretended to frown. "Are you saying the future Alpha of the Obsidian Pack is ugly?"I raised both hands in surrender. "Of course not. You’re the most handsome Alpha on the entire continent."Lyndra, who was sitting in the front, burst into laughter and said she should have recorded it to show the fangirls back in the pack.Early the next morning, I went to the blacksmith’s shop to collect the custom mate rings.Kael and I were about to hold our ceremony. That night, everyone enjoyed themselves at the tavern. After it ended, Kael escorted me back to my old home in the outer territory. The carriage stopped beneath the stone house. Kael held my hand, reluctant to let go.I was not ready to tell my parents that I had chosen a new mate. I did not want them to worry over me again.I planned to wait until everything was completely stable, then bring them to live with me."Darling, I’ll come early tomorrow to pick you up. We still need to choose the ceremonial fangs for the Marking Ceremony."Unlike before, this time my mate took the ceremony seriously. Nearly every detail had been arranged by him.I smiled and nodded, watching as he drove away. When I pushed open the door, I saw Raelor sitting in the living room. My parents sat nearby, their expressions complicated and restrained. For the past six months, I had only told them I went to the Obsidian Pack to further my studies. They did not know the truth of my complete break with Raelo

Half a year later, at the edge of Silvermoon’s territory, I stepped down from the carriage, pushing my luggage behind me.When I left, I had been alone. Now that I had returned, Kael stood beside me.Master Eryndor had approved my return to collect moonlight herbs and settle a few private matters. Kael insisted on accompanying me under the pretext of serving as my guard."Darling, hurry up. Lyndra has already urged us three times through the wolf communicator," Kael said lightly, taking my case from my hand.I looked at him.For the past six months, he had stayed at the Healing Sanctum, helping stabilize the damage to my wolf soul. When my mood faltered, he was the one who remained beside me each day, guiding me patiently. He never once said he loved me, yet everything he did was love.I smiled and clasped his hand. We walked side by side toward the pack tavern. The welcome feast had already begun. The moment Lyndra saw me, she rushed forward and threw her arms around me, com

Raelor kicked open the door to the Healing Sanctum’s special ward. The loud crash made Seraphine, who was lying in bed, flinch violently. She had been leisurely drinking her tonic. The moment she saw Raelor, she instantly replaced her relaxed expression with one of frailty and fear. Tears came at once."Raelor, you’re finally here… Freya left you alone at the altar. How could she do that?" Seraphine reached out to grab his sleeve. "Is this because of me? If it is, I don’t mind being wronged. I’ll go beg Freya to come back…""Stop acting." Raelor shook her hand off and flung the blood-stained medical record straight at her face. The sharp edge of the paper sliced across her delicate cheek."Ah!" Seraphine cried out, covering her face, staring at him in disbelief. "Raelor, you…"Then she saw the contents of the document. Her voice died."Three months ago, in the middle of that blizzard, who was it that carried me for ten kilometers and nearly burned out her wolf soul stabilizing

The moment the wolf communicator became unreachable, Raelor froze. That hollow emptiness—the kind that came from being completely severed—spread from his heart through his entire body.As Alpha, he was used to control. Now he realized he could not even secure the right to speak. He refused to accept it. If he could not reach her through the communicator, then he would find her friends. When Raelor kicked the door open, Lyndra was sitting at the table eating lunch. The moment she saw who it was, her expression turned cold."Oh? Isn’t this the noble Alpha of Silvermoon? Your future mate ran away, so now you’ve come to tear down our slums?""Enough nonsense!" Raelor’s eyes were bloodshot, his voice hoarse. "Tell me! Where is Freya? I know you’ve been in contact with her."Lyndra looked at him the way one would look at trash. "What right does a disloyal, cheating idiot like you have to ask about her whereabouts?"Raelor stepped forward. His Alpha pressure exploded instantly. "Lyndra
