Sarah POV

I stepped back into the house, heart pounding—not from fear, but frustration. I hated that this was happening. That what was meant to be a peaceful getaway had turned into another territorial standoff between two men who couldn’t seem to coexist without turning every shared space into a battlefield.

And the worst part? I was done with it.

Adrian’s presence, his words—they didn’t stir anything in me anymore except exhaustion. Whatever we’d had, whatever connection lingered in the corners of memory, it wasn’t real enough to justify the kind of chaos he kept bringing into my life.

He wasn’t worth this.

I paced the edge of the kitchen, trying to steady my breath, waiting for Alessandro to walk through the door. When he finally did, tension still radiating off him, I didn’t hold back.

“What the hell was that?” I asked, arms crossed, trying to keep my voice calm—but I knew the bite in it was sharp.

Alessandro blinked, clearly caught off guard by my anger.

“I was just—he crossed a l

Sarah POVThe room was too quiet. Not the silence of focus or anticipation. No, this was the charged stillness of people watching something implode and pretending not to.I felt the weight of it pressing in from all sides, the pause before conversation resumed, the held breath, the faintest shuffle of paper as if it could mask the tension that had sunk into the air like smoke.I didn’t look at Alessandro again. I didn’t need to. The damage was already done.Instead, I focused on the screen behind me as the assistant powered up the presentation. Reema took her seat beside me, her hands moving fluidly over the digital remote, cueing up the slides.I heard Ester whisper something sharp under her breath as she took the chair on my other side, something about “desperate women and little tricks.” I appreciated the solidarity but said nothing.Because I couldn’t say anything. Not yet.Alessandro sat across from me. I registered the slight scrape of his chair, the way his movements were restr

Sarah POVWednesday morning came wrapped in a sharp clarity that contrasted sharply with my feelings. I positioned myself before the mirror, adjusting a delicate cream blouse atop my navy pants, observing the slight remnants of the hickeys that had almost disappeared. The memory still burned not from pain, but from everything it signified. Alessandro’s mouth, his hands, his desperation. My weakness. My anger. The unspoken parts between us that still hadn't faded. And then... his silence. His gift. The cake sat on my counter for two days before I finally allowed myself to eat it. Not out of guilt. Not even hesitation. Just... fear. Fear of what it meant if I accepted that he knew me so well, still. That the Alessandro who held my body like a drowning man was the same Alessandro who remembered the exact seasonal cake from a tiny French bakery tucked away in Manhattan. The same one I hadn’t mentioned in over a year. Each bite was maddeningly familiar. Honey, orange zest, toasted chestnut

Sarah POVMonday EveningThe key stuck in the lock again. I exhaled a sharp breath through my nose, too tired to fight with it, but too wound up to be patient. With a twist and a slight shove of my shoulder, the door finally clicked open. The sound echoed in the dim, quiet apartment, known but not wholly a refuge tonight. I closed the door behind me and rested against it for a moment longer than necessary, just breathing in.Mondays carried a distinct gravity now, emails, decisions, meetings at the boardroom table with Adrian directly opposite me, his presence weighty as a boulder. He didn't mention anything about the events of the weekend, yet he didn't have to do so. The looks he sent in my direction conveyed it all: disapproval, curiosity, considerationAnd something else. He'd noticed the hickey.Even with my collar pulled high and makeup layered carefully, I’d caught his gaze resting too long on my neck during the morning meeting. I hated that I’d allowed Alessandro to leave thos

Adrian’s POVMonday AfternoonI closed the door behind me with a little more force than necessary. The folder I held was now creased, the edge folded from how firmly I had clenched it. I only became aware of it when I glanced down, searching for something else to concentrate on, anything apart from the picture still burned into my memory.Sarah.Her neck. Those marksGoddamn him.I paced the corridor just outside her office, the plush carpet doing nothing to absorb the heat rising through me. The logical part of my brain whispered that this wasn’t my business anymore. That she was free to do what she wanted, see who she wanted. We were divorced. She’d made that clear. But the other part, the one that still woke up in the middle of the night, half-reached toward her side of the bed before realising it was cold, that part of me was burning.Because I knew exactly who had left those marks. And worse than that, I could see it in her face. That flicker of something raw and wounded, the way

Sarah POVMonday MiddayThe conference room glimmered with sleek professionalism, chrome legs, a glass table, and muted art along the walls. I sat at the head, a legal pad in front of me, fingers neatly laced as I led the meeting with Parker's team. Ester sat to my right, calm and sharp-eyed, chiming in at precise intervals. Our proposal was solid. Concise. Sustainable.Even Adrian, sitting quietly near the end of the table, offered no opposition today, only subtle nods of agreement and a few sharp, constructive points when prompted. It was, surprisingly, going well.Which meant, of course, that something was bound to fall apart. As the final slides flicked through on the screen behind me, I stood to thank everyone and offer a final note on timelines and deliverables. I reached for my coffee mug, foolishly placed on the narrow lip of the console beside the table, and in one smooth motion that wasn’t smooth at all, my elbow caught it. The ceramic clattered to the floor, coffee arcing t

  • Wedcuffed   Chapter 257

Sarah POVMondayThe morning sun slanted through the city’s sharp skyline, casting long shadows across my bedroom floor. Despite the warmth in the light, I felt cold.Numb, even.I stood before the full-length reflect in my room, the early morning light sifting through gauzy window ornaments and portraying delicate lines over the floor. My robe hung freely off one bear, the silk scarcely protecting the repercussions of a night I hadn't, however, completely handled. I tilted my chin, eyes following the marks that trailed along my neck and collarbone, faint at to begin with look, but incomprehensible to disregard. The bruises had obscured overnight, blossoming into shades of quieted violet and shadowy blood red, as if my skin had retained the chaos of everything he made me feel. With a moderate breath, I uncapped the concealer and spotted it carefully over each stamp. My fingers moved with practised beauty, but my hands trembled marginally, deceiving the storm interior me. Each touch br

Sarah POVNext Morning. The morning daylight sifted through the sensitive shades, delicate and golden but it appeared excessively shining, unreasonably warm, and as well fake for my feelings. I flickered, my eyelids weighted, my throat dried. The torment that dwelled in my bones wasn't exclusively from the tequila. It wasn’t just from exhaustion. It was from the truth the whole goddamn truth of last night. And I remembered all of it.The dance. The kiss. The way I had flirted with strangers was just to get a rise out of Alessandro. The way his grip had locked around my wrist. The wall. His mouth. The desperate, reckless heat of it all.His lips on my skin, claiming me. His voice cracking with regret. My resistance crumbling and then coming back with such fury that it knocked me back into my senses.I sat up in bed slowly, dragging the sheets with me, the cotton clinging to sweat-slicked skin. My body was sore. Not from intimacy we hadn’t gone that far, but from the emotional wreckag

Alessandro POVThe stillness in the vehicle was overwhelming. Sarah sank into the passenger seat next to me, her head resting on the window, the cool glass misting a bit from her breath. Her makeup was a bit smeared, the warmth of alcohol coloring her cheeks, and the subtle sparkle on her collarbones still reflected the dashboard lights with each streetlamp we passed beneath. She remained silent not a single word. Only the rare interruption of a breath, the soft whisper of silk as she moved. I held the wheel more firmly than needed, my knuckles pale against the leather.Ester was securely placed in the other vehicle behind us, with the driver directed to return her home I didn’t want Sarah to deal with any more tonight no questions, no judgment, no lectures from her best friend. She was spiraling and I couldn’t pretend I didn’t have something to do with it.The night kept replaying behind my eyes. The way she moved on the dance floor. The deliberate sway of her hips. The teasing glanc

Alessandro POV2:05 AMInside the ClubThe crowd surged again as a new beat dropped, bass thunderous like a war drum in my ears. But all I could see all I could ever see was her. Sarah. She was back on the dance floor, after that drink she threw down like it was oxygen. Still spinning, still punishing me with every move of her hips. And then, May God decide to test me,A Man showed up. He stood tall, elegant, possibly in his late thirties, wearing a midnight-blue shirt that fitted snugly around his chest. He appeared self-assured, arrogant. Sarah didn’t shove him aside. She grinned. She gave him a smile I hadn’t witnessed in months, gentle, welcoming, the smile that was once mine.My jaw locked. I stepped forward instinctively, but I caught myself. She wasn’t in danger.No.She was making a point. He leaned in close. She tilted her head, lips brushing near his ear as she said something, probably nothing, but he laughed, like she had just whispered the secret to eternal youth. Her hand r
