Chapter 1

Author: Money Bag
Being suddenly shoved a baby into my arms left me completely stunned. When I finally processed what was happening, disbelief washed over me.

What did it even mean that Zelda Lawson gave birth to a child for Ryan Lawson?

Even though they were not blood-related, they were still adoptive siblings in name, and more importantly, I was his legal wife.

How could they do something so morally twisted?

Dressing up an affair with such a bizarre justification really showed they thought I was an idiot.

The smile on my face slowly turned cold. I shoved the baby back into Zelda's arms, then ripped that so-called "custody agreement" into tiny pieces. With a flick of my hand, I scattered the shredded paper all over her face.

I said, "I'm not taking the fall for this, especially not for second-hand trash."

Zelda's face instantly flushed red, and her hands trembled as she clutched the baby. Meanwhile, Ryan's expression darkened as he stepped forward and barked at me angrily.

"Victoria Sullivan, what's with that tone?! Zelda was only thinking of what's best for us!"

I felt like I just heard the joke of the century. "Best for us? What's best for us is having her show up at our post-wedding dinner with your bastard child to disgust me?"

He argued, "We're all family here. Can't you be the bigger person?"

Be the bigger person.

It was those exact words again.

Ever since Ryan and I started dating, it was chanted in my ear like a daily mantra, a spell I could not break.

When Zelda said she liked my limited-edition handbag, I had to be the bigger person and give it to her.

When Zelda mentioned she wanted to move into our marital home, I had to be considerate and worry about her safety living alone. So, I became the bigger person and let her move in.

Even when I was pregnant for the first time, Zelda dragged me onto a drop tower ride despite knowing I was terrified of heights. As a result, I was so scared that I started hemorrhaging badly.

My first child with Ryan was just gone like that.

Because of that traumatic experience and the miscarriage, the doctor said I damaged my body fundamentally and would have a hard time conceiving again.

Yet, what did Ryan say back then?

He said, "Victoria, Zelda didn't mean it. She's scared, too. Be the bigger person and don't blame her."

I was being the bigger person, but what did I get in return?

And now, as a reward, she walked right into the room, holding their illegitimate child, while I was still expected to just “be the bigger person” and accept it all.

It was utterly ridiculous.

My voice trembled with rage as I shouted, "Ryan, I was already being the bigger person when I forgave the person who killed my baby. Now you want me to tolerate your mistress and her bastard child moving in? You're absolutely ridiculous!"

Ryan's mother, Margaret Potter, who was silent until now, suddenly snapped and rushed at me.

She jabbed her finger at my nose as she screamed, "Victoria, you barren woman! How dare you even say a word! The Lawson family has only had one son per generation for three generations. If the line ends because of you, you'll be the one who doomed this family. Zelda was kind enough to bear your child. Instead of being grateful, you'd let a Lawson bloodline be cast out into the world?"

She got more and more vicious with her words, her spittle nearly hitting my face.

"I think you're just jealous of Zelda because you can't have children yourself. You are always out drinking and socializing with other men, so maybe your body has already been ruined, which is why you cannot have children!"

Zelda held the baby and wiped her tears beside her, pretending to be pitiful while fanning the flames.

She whimpered, "Victoria, I know you're upset, but how could you cheat on Ryan? I-I even gave Ryan my first time."

She cried as if she suffered the greatest injustice in the world. I was shaking with anger as I stared at the man I loved for three years.

"Ryan, is that what you think too?"

He avoided my gaze, and his voice was completely cold. "If I cared, I would not have married you. Victoria, stop making a scene, sign the agreement, and do not blow this up, because it will not look good for anyone."

Ryan's legs gave out, and he collapsed to the floor. Margaret saw this and screamed, rushing forward to tear down the screen. However, the bodyguards blocked her, so she could only sit on the ground and throw a tantrum. "That's impossible! Ryan is perfectly healthy. There's no way he's infertile! That baby is my grandson! You forged these reports! You're lying!"Zelda leaned against the wall like she lost all strength, holding the baby and hanging her head without saying a word.Ryan was equally dazed, staring blankly at that medical report. In our three years together, even I could tell he was becoming less and less capable in that department. I made excuses for him before, thinking it was just work exhaustion. It turned out that he really had problems. The room fell silent for a long moment before Ryan finally seemed to snap back to reality and lunged at Zelda in rage. He grabbed Zelda by the throat, his eyes bloodshot. "Tell me, who's the father? Is it Louis! Your 'cousin'

Ryan was completely stunned and staggered backward, almost knocked over by the chair behind him.He stuttered, "N-No way! This is impossible! I spent so much money; Almost all my savings. They promised me they would kill you."He shouted, "No way! Something must have gone wrong somewhere!"I thought Ryan was just greedy and calculating, but I never expected him to be this vicious. He actually tried to kill Timothy.Timothy walked up to him and gently tapped his cheek. "You wanted to steal the Sullivan family's fortune? Dream on. Ryan, you are nothing but a useless loser!"The slap was not hard, but it was more humiliating than any loud blow.Ryan clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white. Perhaps intimidated by the muscular bodyguards behind Timothy, he dared not make any sudden moves.Timothy ignored him and turned his gaze toward Zelda, who was cowering in the corner. He said, "Zelda Lawson, or should I call you Mathilda Browne?"At those words, Zelda's who

The next morning, I arrived early at the top-floor conference room of the Grand Hotel. I deliberately chose a black dress and kept my makeup light and understated.Soon, Ryan arrived with his lawyer, Margaret, and Zelda, making quite the entrance. Zelda was holding the baby in her arms. Their whole family looked triumphant, as if they were attending a victory celebration."Victoria, you are here," Ryan said as he sat across from me and slid a prepared agreement toward me. "Take a look and see if there are any issues. If everything is fine, just sign it."Without even looking at the agreement, I knew it was designed to legally transfer all my assets into his name. I pushed the agreement aside and looked at him.I asked, "Ryan, in our three years of being together, was there even a single moment when you genuinely cared about me?"Ryan froze, then frowned impatiently. "What's the point of talking about this now? Just sign it!"Margaret chimed in from the side, "Exactly! You can't

Over the next few days, I completely transformed into a lunatic. Sometimes I would cry and throw tantrums, other times I would stare into space in total silence. I refused to see anyone or eat anything, and I locked myself in my room.Meanwhile, Ryan and his family brazenly moved into the Sullivan residence. They thought I broke down and lost all ability to resist, so they gradually lowered their guard.Margaret began acting like the lady of the house, ordering the servants around.Zelda treated my walk-in closet like her own, parading around the house daily in my designer clothes and handbags.Ryan busied himself buying off Sullivan Group's shareholders, trying to sideline me and seize control of the company. They put on a show of "deep devotion" in front of me. Yet, behind my back, they already wrote me off as dead and started dividing up my inheritance.Meanwhile, I used this time to maintain close contact with Timothy through that encrypted number.Timothy worked fast. He to

After hanging up the phone, I leaned back against the cold car seat, and my body was still shaking from the lingering fear. However, my mind was never clearer.Ryan was meticulous and calculating, having laid his plans for three years just for this moment. If I simply exposed him, given his cunning nature, he would probably turn around and frame me instead. No half measures. I would have to destroy him completely, or this would come back and haunt me again.I already recorded that conversation between Ryan and his friend on my phone. Before Timothy returned, I could not tip them off. So, I had to go back to the Sullivan residence and play along with Ryan's expectations, turning his own plan against him.The next day, as soon as I drove into the hospital parking garage where Mom was staying, I noticed someone taking photos. Ever since last night when I saw the news about Timothy's plane crash on my phone, I knew this would happen.Ryan really could not hold his patience. He was a

I curled up on the floor in pain and forced myself to get up, but I could only watch helplessly as the ambulance sped away.A metallic taste surged up my throat, and I did not know whether it came from the blows or from sheer rage. My body swayed, and I almost lost my balance.Edward rushed downstairs with a small yellow pill bottle in his hand. "Ms. Sullivan, I found it! I found the emergency heart medication!"He fumbled as he fed the pills into Mom's mouth. A few minutes later, her complexion finally improved, and her breathing gradually steadied. The weight that was crushing my chest finally lifted. My vision went black, and I lost all consciousness. When I woke up again, I was in my bedroom at the Sullivan residence.Edward was keeping watch nearby, and when he saw me wake, his eyes turned red. "Ms. Sullivan, you're finally awake."I sat up, my lower back and abdomen still throbbing with dull pain. I asked anxiously, "Edward, how's Mom doing?""Ms. Sullivan, don't worry. M
