Caleb Graham's heart lurched into his throat, and his voice trembled as he asked, "What's going on?"

Danielle Sutton finally broke her silence, her tone cold and indifferent. "The truth is, Yale is infertile. I had a child with you so he could become a father.

"Even the joy I felt when I first discovered I was pregnant was because Yale could finally have a child of his own."

Caleb felt as though a bolt of lightning had struck him. Did Danielle mean that the child they had together was supposed to call Yale Lawson "Dad"?

Before Caleb could fully process her shocking confession, the call abruptly disconnected.

The very next moment, Danielle walked through the door. Beaming with delight, she reached into her bag and pulled out a report.

"Caleb, I'm pregnant."

Seeing how happy she was, Caleb could hardly believe it. This was the woman he had fallen in love with at first sight at 18, the woman he had defied the whole world to marry at 25. Yet, all along, she had seen him as nothing more than a means to give another man a child.

Danielle sat beside him and nestled into his embrace. She gently ran a hand over her belly as a smile touched her lips. "We're finally going to have a baby."

But who was she truly so happy for—him or Yale?

"Danielle," Caleb asked hesitantly, "our child will stay with us forever and grow up happy, right?"

Danielle paused for a moment before replying with absolute certainty. "Of course. Our child will always stay by our side."

Her words were filled with tenderness and conviction. Caleb closed his eyes, feeling as though the pain in his chest would tear his heart apart.

By nightfall, Danielle was fast asleep, her breathing slow and steady.

Caleb, however, was wide awake. He picked up his phone and sent a message to Future Danielle. "When… did you two get together?"

A reply came moments later. "I only agreed to marry you back then for the five million dollars. I needed the money to cover Yale's infertility treatment."

Caleb's hands shook as he typed another message. "What else have you been hiding from me all these years?"

The message was delivered, but no response followed.

The following day at noon, Caleb found Danielle busy preparing for a family gathering. The moment she saw him step through the doorway, she greeted him in a gentle voice. "Caleb, you're just in time. We've all been waiting for you."

As soon as she finished speaking, party poppers exploded, scattering colorful streamers through the air.

She then slowly wheeled a beautifully decorated cake toward him, her eyes gleaming with warmth. "Today marks one year since we got married. Happy anniversary."

As Caleb met her radiant gaze, he felt nothing but revulsion toward her hypocritical charade. Still, with the guests watching them expectantly, he had no choice but to offer a perfunctory response. "Thank you—"

"Ellie." Before Caleb could say another word, Yale, who was standing beside Danielle, abruptly cut in.

"Why doesn't Caleb seem happy at all? If I were in his shoes, I'd be over the moon."

Caleb no longer bothered to hide his disdain. A cold laugh escaped his lips as he fixed Yale with an icy stare. "What, are you jealous of me because you can't have children?"

Danielle's brows instantly drew together. "Caleb, how did you know—"

Before she could finish speaking, the entire living room suddenly went dark. The guests broke into startled whispers as the housekeepers hurried off to check the electrical system.

While the staff worked to restore the power, Caleb received another reply from Future Danielle. "There's something even more scandalous I haven't told you. Like… how we sneaked into your bedroom when the power went out on our first anniversary."

For a fleeting moment, Caleb felt as though an iron fist had clamped around his heart. A crushing wave of pain swept through him, leaving him gasping for breath.

Despite the violent tremors running through his body, he forced himself onward, inching toward the master bedroom with only his phone's faint glow to light his way.

As expected, Yale's voice drifted through the closed door, sharp and distinct, mercilessly stripping Caleb of the last remnants of his dignity.

His heart sank into an abyss of despair. He no longer wavered. He pulled out his phone and sent his mother, Lydia Ford, a resolute message. "Mom, suspend all business collaborations with Danielle's company. I've made my decision… I want a divorce."

Yet after he sent the message, Lydia, who had always cherished him more than anything, failed to reply for an unusually long time.

A growing sense of unease settled over Caleb. Just then, another message from Future Danielle flashed across his screen. "But what I regret hiding from you the most… is what happened to your mother."

Soon, Caleb and Naomi held a second wedding ceremony. This time, there was no grand celebration—only their closest friends were invited. The sea breeze was gentle, and Naomi wore a loose, white wedding dress, holding a bouquet of lilies.Caleb got on one knee before her and slipped the ring back onto her finger. His voice caught slightly as he spoke. "Naomi, I used to think that missing my chance with you was the greatest regret of my life. But later, I realized that as long as you're still willing to move forward, I'll still have a chance to walk beside you and see what the future holds. Thank you for believing in me."Naomi's eyes reddened slightly as she looked down at him. "Caleb, thank you for still choosing me."The guests burst into applause.Behind the trees, some distance away, Danielle stood quietly in the shadows. She didn't approach or intrude. She wore a gauzy dress with a slightly worn neckline, but she had carefully ironed it until it was perfectly smooth. She onl

After being discharged from the hospital, Danielle rented an old apartment in the area and made a living doing translation work for a trading company.Once, she had traveled by private jet and stayed in penthouse suites. Now, she squeezed onto crowded buses, wore dresses washed pale with age, and carried home bags of marked-down bread.Half a month later, news came from back home. The last piece of property under her name had been auctioned off.In the screenshot Gideon sent her, the former Sutton residence was listed with its final sale price. That was the home Caleb had personally furnished—the flower rack on the balcony, the rug in the living room, the night light in the nursery that had never been unpacked... In a single auction, they had all become nothing more than assets in the eyes of others.Danielle stared at the screen for a long time. Only when her eyes began to ache did she slowly set her phone face down on the table. She thought she would eventually grow numb to i

When Danielle woke up, the first person she saw wasn't Caleb, but Naomi. Naomi was sitting beside the hospital bed, peeling an apple. Her movements were clumsy, and the peel broke several times.Danielle stared at her for a moment before asking hoarsely, "Where's he?"Without even looking up, Naomi replied, "My husband is resting."My husband. Those two words pricked at Danielle's heart like a needle. She closed her eyes briefly. "Is... Is he okay?"Naomi tossed the badly peeled apple into the trash and replied flatly, "He's fine. You took the knife meant for him, and the doctor said it would've been serious if it had landed even an inch away. But... you had a miscarriage."Danielle's lips curled into a faint, bitter smile. "Did he send you?""Yes." Naomi didn't deny it. "He said you were injured because of him, so he'll cover your medical expenses and the cost of a caregiver. But he doesn't feel comfortable coming to see you."The light in Danielle's eyes slowly faded. She wou

The local court found Danielle guilty of harassment, attempted unlawful restraint, and disruption of public order, so she was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.Throughout those three months, Danielle never had a single peaceful night's sleep. Everything around her felt like a dense, suffocating web, trapping her completely.Whenever she closed her eyes, she saw Caleb's wrist, reddened by her grip, and remembered the resolute look on his face.Late into the night, she would dream of how he used to stay up late revising proposals for her, calluses on his hand from the pen, yet still smiling as he told her, "It's okay. I believe in you."She remembered the first time he drew her into his arms and whispered, "Danielle, I love you."She remembered their wedding day, when he stood before her in his suit and said earnestly, "Danielle, you're the only one I'll ever marry."His love for her had been real—every bit of it. But back then, she had turned a blind eye to it all and tramp

After that night, Danielle couldn't wait any longer. She bought a house near Caleb's gallery and showered him with flowers, jewelry, and all the gifts he used to like but never got to own.Caleb didn't accept a single thing. Everything was sent back intact, some items left completely unopened.Refusing to accept defeat, Danielle had someone contact local media to organize a massive solo exhibition for him. When Caleb found out, he sent back a single message. "I won't participate if the organizer has anything to do with Danielle."His refusal was sharp and absolute, leaving no room for negotiation.Danielle sat in the empty house, watching the returned gifts pile up in her living room, and suddenly burst into laughter. As she laughed, tears began to stream down her face. How had she ever been so sure that Caleb would never leave her?Right then, her phone buzzed with a final notice from her bank back home. The liquidation of her personal assets was complete, and the remaining

Danielle refused to give up.She stopped barging into Caleb's house, choosing instead to watch him from afar every day at a coffee shop across from the gallery.Caleb arrived at 9:00 am and left at 6:00 pm.Sometimes Naomi joined him, and other times he walked back alone along the shore. He would chat with the gallery owner about exhibits, patiently teach children to paint, and offer his umbrella to students caught in the rain. Yet she was no longer part of any of it.That evening, the gallery hosted a small exhibition. One of Caleb's pieces sat right in the center. It depicted a morning sea bathed in golden light, with two figures holding hands in the distance.Danielle stared at it for a long time.Someone nearby asked with a smile, "Mr. Graham, what's the title of this piece?"Standing in the crowd, Caleb answered softly, "New Beginning."A sharp, dull ache hit Danielle's chest. She used to think that Caleb couldn't survive without her, but the truth was, he only truly st
