CHAPTER 1

Eren POV

"Thank you, Dean Lee, for taking care of me these past 12 years." I looked at the old man across from me; he was the shelter of my twelve years of an uprooted life. This voice of thanks is really from the heart. He was not young, already gray-haired, but his eyes were clear and well-dressed. He had always been unsmiling to others but had always taken extra care of me as if I had been a kind neighbor as a child.

Hearing my words, he sounded a little anxious and said to me, "Eren, all this is what we should do. You are a good boy, but do you really not consider continuing to live here? Although you're already eighteen, you just need to hang out here as an employee. You don't have to worry about it."

"Thank you for your kindness, but I still wish to chase my dreams and I know that  the orphanage isn't that well funded, right?"

'I know, but...' Dean Lee's words were halfway through, and his eyes were full of worry as he looked at me.

I patted his hand and said gently, 'It's okay, Dean Lee, you know what I can do. '

“Okay then , but there is no need to send money back. I know I am old but do not need the money from my children as well. Take care of yourself my boy and don’t forget that I am here for you all the time.” Dean Lee said with a smile.

Hearing these words, I did not say anything, but over the years I was thrown around like a burden. If not for the insistence of Dean Lee, I would probably have starved to death, so in my heart, he is my family.

And all good things must come to an end.

After I left the orphanage, I stood by a red light, thinking about all my childhood experiences and my future plans.

Suddenly a child rushed across the road and chased his soccer ball. I couldn't react in time. I wanted to run out of the road and hug him. With the sharp sound of the car tires rubbing against the ground, I pushed the kid out. This was my last action before I fell to the ground. I heard the constant shouting around me, I heard Dean Lee calling my name, but my eyelids were getting heavy. I couldn't answer; I felt it. Death was getting closer and closer. I thought about the life that was just about to start. I really thought at this moment that fate was unfair. Why me, if only life could come again, why not again...

I thought so, before being drowned in endless darkness so I did not hear the doctor say that they did everything they could do.
