Roger is in a bar, throwing back whiskey shots one after the other. He looks like he has stopped caring, he is unshaven and his blonde hair is unkept. He is thinking about Jessica and what their future may have been like if they had met under different circumstances. He is feeling heartbroken and defeated, he feels like has run out of options, he's done all he can to convince Jessica that he loves her and won't ever hurt her. He has never felt this way before, he has had relationships before but they have never been this intense and he really does not want to lose her, but he also wants her to want him and not fear him.
