Chapter 3

Author: Southern Wind
I woke up in my best friend Wendy Bennington's bed. I must have texted her to pick me up before I passed out.

My head still hurt a lot, but I took some medicine and got up.

Wendy was looking really mad at something on her phone. She was not just my best friend; we worked together too. When she saw how pale I was, she got really upset.

"Evan is being so unfair. He's the one who wanted to end things, not you. You didn't do anything wrong. Why is he making people think badly of you?"

I walked over and took a quick look at her phone. It was full of news about me.

[Alpha Evan said he's broken his mate bond with the Luna.]

[Nancy went from the Luna to just another werewolf. Her dreams are shattered.]

[People are now finding out who Nancy really is....]

My name was all over the news. Everyone in the pack was probably talking about me.

Shane said in a cool voice, "You don't need to look at these things. They're all saying mean things about you. Evan's the pack Alpha, and you're just a model. Before you met him, you were just an Omega. You can't match his fame."

I just shrugged it off. "I had braced myself for this moment for a long time. Being with him, I was always the one reaching for the stars. Now that we've broken up, it's no surprise I'm getting scolded. "

Wendy's face turned pale with anger. "He's the head of our studio. Without his say-so, I can't even defend you!"

I gave a small smile, my voice calm. "There's no need to defend me. I'm the one who agreed to let the news out."

She stopped in her tracks, staring at me in disbelief.

"Are you out of your mind? Do you realize all the werewolves in the pack are talking about you? Are you just going to throw in the towel and leave the pack?"

I laughed softly, as if the gossip was not about me, and said nonchalantly, "Since being with Evan, when have I not been talked about? They offered me $750,000 to make it public. Why would I turn down the money?"

Wendy frowned slightly. "Are you really short on cash lately?"

I dodged the question and tugged at her arm. "Come on, we should get to the studio."

I never expected to run into Evan there.

He was always so busy, hardly ever stopping by the studio.

However, there he was, helping Julia with her runway walk in the very practice room I used to use, while Wendy and I were stuck outside.

Wendy's frustration flared up again. "Why do they get to do this? Everyone knows this studio only got big because of you. How can they treat you this way?"

I kept my smile, staying silent.

However, I could not help remembering Evan on the day we opened the studio.

He hugged me, his eyes full of promise. "Nancy, you'll be the only model in this studio. You're going to be the star of the whole pack!"

Back then, both Evan and the studio were all mine, like I was the only wolf in the pack.

However, the moment that mysterious system came through the speakers, everything changed.

After the marking ceremony, Evan said the Luna was not cut out for the spotlight and would not let me model anymore.

Then, the studio brought in a new model, Julia.

When I found out, I realized the studio was not just mine anymore. Neither was Evan.

When I walked in, the whole place went dead quiet. The werewolves started whispering, and I heard all sorts of mean things.

"She's washed up. What business does she have closing the Spring Fashion Show? She must've cheated."

"The guys like that sort of thing. How else could she get the Alpha's attention? Good thing he saw through her."

"Yeah, Julia's the real deal. She's nowhere near Julia's level!"

Wendy was furious, and she snapped at them, "Stop spouting lies! The Spring Fashion Show organizers asked Nancy to join, not Julia!"

I quickly put my hand over Wendy's mouth.

I knew she could not let it go, but if we kept that up, we would definitely get Evan's attention. I wanted nothing to do with him anymore.

However, it was too late...

I could not lie to Julia, so I spilled the beans. She was a really good wolf and immediately agreed to put on a show with me. She felt sorry for us and promised to do her best to save Nancy.Hope swelled in me again. With Julia on my side, I knew I could wrap up that mission in no time.I had to do the hardest thing and break my mate bond with Nancy.I watched her walk away from the villa all by herself as my heart broke. My mind just crumbled, and I could not help but follow her out.I fought the urge to run up and hug her and instead followed at a distance, careful not to be seen. When I saw her crouched in a corner, looking so hurt, I wanted nothing more than to bring her back home. However, I could not. I could not risk messing up the important mission we had worked so hard on.I secretly messaged Wendy to come and get Nancy. It was not until I saw Wendy take her away that I could finally relax. I walked back home, feeling empty.Julia looked at me, her face full of worry.

Evan and Julia rushed through the marking ceremony, not even waiting for Silvia to leave the hospital. It was nothing like our big, fancy ceremony. Their marking ceremony was quick and simple, done on some open ground nearby. No crowd of guests or family, not even an elder to lead the ceremony. The only witness was me... and my wolf spirit. After the marking ceremony, Evan looked a lot more at ease. He turned to Julia with a thankful glance. "Julia, I can't thank you enough for helping me with my mission."Julia's smile was warm, but her eyes did not show any love as she looked at Evan. "It was no trouble at all. Don't mention it. Evan, make sure you're good to Nancy, okay? I hope you two will be happy."Evan smiled and spoke the words to break the mark."I, Evan, am ending my mate bond with Julia. Let this connection break, so we're not tied together anymore."Julia gave a small smile. "I accept your rejection."The pain of the broken bond hit deep, and even the toughest werewo

That same night, Evan rushed over to Wendy's place. He looked desperate. "Is Nancy here with you?"Wendy did not even look up as she packed up my things.Evan was in a panic, his hands tightly gripping Wendy's arm as he yelled, not caring how he looked."Tell me, where's Nancy? Did you hide her? Bring her out to see me now!"Wendy's eyes were red as she broke free from him. "She's gone! She passed away this morning! She won't be in your way anymore. Are you happy now?"Evan stood still, his eyes locked on Wendy's, searching for any sign she might be lying. He whispered to himself, "No, she can't be gone. How could she die? Why now? The system didn't say this would happen. It can't be true..."Wendy let out an ivy laugh. "What can't be true? Her grave is in Southborough. If you don't believe me, go see for yourself."Evan's eyes filled with tears, and he ran clumsily toward the graveyard.I trailed behind him, my heart aching as I saw his pain when he reached the graves. He los

I was there at the celebration party. Julia stood on the stage, glowing with happiness. Her life was always meant to sparkle with joy and fulfillment.Since I had made things right for her, I did not have to feel guilty anymore. That was what I told myself. She smiled so brightly, thanking everyone who had helped her, including me.The room was filled with cheers. In the dim light, I saw a familiar shadow. My hands shook as I reached out, and he was finally there to meet me. However, the loud cheers snapped me back to reality. It was not the shadow I saw. It was Evan.He knelt on one knee, holding a shiny diamond ring. He looked at Julia with so much love. "Julia, will you be my Luna?"I clutched my chest, swallowing the pain.Shane's cry echoed in my mind, then faded away.No matter how much I called, I could not feel his presence anymore. I knew my time was up.Wendy saw that I was not okay and rushed to help me. She tried to hide it, but I heard her cry.I did not know wh

When Teresa found me, I was surprised for a second, but then it clicked.Teresa had a nice smile on her face. "Nancy, I wanted to say thank you. If you hadn't been willing to help Silvia, things could have been really bad for her. If you need anything, just ask."Where are your parents? I need to thank them too."I felt a little sad inside."No need to thank me, and I don't have parents. I'm an orphan. I did it for the money."I looked at Teresa, trying to keep my feelings from showing. If I could not see the future, I would never know she was my real mom. I was taken away from her right after I was born. When I said that, the look of dislike in her eyes went away, and she looked at me with so much kindness."I'm sorry for judging you because of what happened with Julia. I don't know why, but talking to you now feels really nice."She sounded so sweet and looked so caring, like a mom should. If she loved Julia, her adopted daughter, that much, would she have loved her own daug

  • What He Came For   Chapter 7

The birthday party that day was all over the news again.Every werewolf was talking about how kind Julia was and how unlucky I seemed.Right then, Silvia had to go to the hospital. She was born with a really weak wolf inside her, but she had been getting better with the doctor's help over the years.Somehow, her wolf just vanished, and the hospital said she was really, really sick.Everyone in our werewolf group was praying for her, except me. I just knew she would not die.I was the one who was really in trouble. My headaches were getting worse, and Shane, my inner wolf, was barely hanging on. I figured it would not be long before I could not feel him at all.I let out a sigh. With the way things were going, I would probably die before I could pay off some big debt I owed. Then, Wendy gave me a bit of hope. She said Evan was looking everywhere and spending a ton of money to find a special blood that could help Silvia. The doctor said if a werewolf of a certain constitution g
