Chapter 2

Author: Strawberry Spring Roll
As Fiona shambled out of the bathroom, her pale face made her look just like was terribly sick.

She then heard a loud humming and was surprised to see that Mark had left his backup phone.

Picking it up from the couch, she swiped it and was left staring at a passcode panel.

She didn't hesitate and typed Sue's birthday, which surprisingly unlocked the phone.

There were over ninety-nine notifications coming from a chat group, and Fiona recognized each of the thirtyish members in it—they were all elites whom her father had sponsored, labeled by everyone else as her sponsored suitors.

Swiping through it, she found out that Mark had rushed out because someone was molesting Sue at the hotel where she worked part-time.

Someone had a photo and even uploaded it to the work chat group by mistake.

Still, Fiona kept swiping upward when she noticed a certain sticker made from her own face with distorted facial features to make her look monstrous.

And the sender was Noris, who was always hovering around Mark.

[Guys, don't you think it was Fiona?]

[No way! She doesn't even know that Mark had used her father's position to get Sue a job.]

[Actually, you never know. Y'all know how obsessed she is with Mark. Who knows, she might have people watching and found out about Sue. I mean, who else would hate Sue so much and want to humiliate her? Doesn't Fiona see that it's going too far for a fellow woman?]

[The way I see it, it definitely was Fiona! Both she and her father are so full of themselves just because they're rich. What, do they think the world is theirs? How deluded are they, grooming us to be her suitors? Bleh, dream on! Not even a mongrel would want her!]

[Hahaha…]

As Fiona kept reading, shaking with rage as she stood, she discovered that the sponsored suitors had made many other stickers out of her or her father's faces.

When they were younger, they were all going to starve to death, if not die from illness—survival was questionable for them without her father's sponsorship.

And yet, here they were, mocking and slandering her without evidence, as if she was not a woman just like Sue.

Never could she have expected Mark to throw all caution to the wind for Sue's sake, even having the balls to keep Sue right under her nose.

Just thinking about his name left her feeling like she was being repeatedly stabbed with a blunt knife—it didn't kill, but each stab left her with utter agony!

That was when her father called her—he was busy with a project abroad and couldn't make it home.

As Fiona quietly wiped the tears away from her eyes, she vowed to herself that it was the last time she would cry over Mark.

"What's wrong? Who hurt you?" her father's familiar voice asked over the phone.

Just hearing his voice left Fiona firmly biting her own lip, as she seemed to see the way her father bled from head to toe—a well-dressed man reduced to a bloody pulp because of Mark's torture.

Still, there was no hiding her pain from her father despite her silence, and she took a breath to calm down before speaking. "It's fine, Dad… the wedding will go on as scheduled, but I'll be marrying Yves Warren instead of Mark."

"What? Yves?!" Norman exclaimed in shock on the other end. "I thought he left his family to volunteer as a Doctor Without Borders. Why would you suddenly want to marry him?"

"Just trust me on this," Fiona replied, looking downward at Mark's phone screen where more insulting messages were popping up. "I know what I'm doing… Also, I'll start work at the headquarters."

Though Norman had no idea what Fiona was planning, he had always loved his only daughter.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have spent a king's ransom grooming Mark, giving the latter special treatment and privileges he didn't afford the other sponsored suitors.

And it was all because Fiona liked Mark.

Still, Norman didn't dwell on it and sighed. "Just do whatever you want. Even if it's the wrong call, I'll see through it to the end with you!"

Fiona's vision was clouded with tears even as she took another deep breath, sniffling as she said, "Yeah."

As she hung up, another message popped up in the chat group—this time from Mark.

[If it really was her, I'll make her suffer!]

Even as Sue gritted her teeth, her rage seemed to flare further, and she once again slashed at Mark, who started screaming in pain once more.Fiona looked on, her knuckles balling before she knew it.As she watched Sue's endlessly changing emotions, she was now very sure that Sue suffered from some serious mental illness. It was also very clear that Sue never had therapy, given her manic behavior. And before long, Sue sat down, taking a break as if the effort took a toll on her. "You blame me for your parents' death?! But what about me?! I told you I had no choice! There's so many men waiting for me—don't you know how young I was at the time?"Even her words made no sense now, though she had stopped slashing Mark now.She clearly noticed that he was losing a lot of blood, and she'd be a murder if she kept going.Instead, she rose to her feet and slowly walked toward Fiona, her eyes flaring with hatred while her face abruptly contorted savagely. "You had no right to have such a

And Fiona knew that the courier was actually Sue.Even if she had disguised herself well, she still blew it.And for some reason, Sue was still convinced that she was still into Mark and threatened to kill him unless Fiona went where she asked.Yves was worried and ready to follow her, just as he was well aware that Fiona was going for Sue and not for Mark. After all, on their wedding night, Fiona had told him all the secrets she kept sealed in her heart. She had no idea if Yves would believe her, because if anyone else heard it from her, they would just presume that she lost her mind because of Mark's antics. However, Yves didn't.He listened attentively, and his heart broke for what happened to her in the past life.Holding her fiercely in his arms, he promised, "I'll protect you in this life! No one will ever get to hurt you again!"-With every possible preparation in place, Fiona went to meet Sue alone. When she arrived, Mark was lying on the floor miserably, his face p

The minutes felt like years as Fiona and Mark stared at each other from afar, and it was Fiona who turned away first. She even nodded at Bob before leaving without a word, allowing Bob to sigh in relief. After all, it seems that the rumors were true, and Fiona really wasn't interested in Mark anymore. On the other hand, Mark was left staring blankly at the empty doorway. She had seen everything—how miserable he was, and his dignity being trampled all over.-Later, Fiona stepped out of the ladies room to find Mark already waiting outside, flicking ash off his cigarette. He quickly snuffed it out when he saw her—he didn't forget that she hated the scent of tobacco. His chin was covered in stubble, and he had clearly lost at least a pound.Still, he felt a dull ache in his chest when he saw Fiona, as he finally realized how much he missed her.He had restrained himself from seeing her because he knew she didn't want to see him, and he didn't expect that restraint could be so pa

During a gathering with old friends, someone mentioned Fiona's sponsored suitors."Oh, you have no idea! Those fools have absolutely regretted everything once your father fired them. They've been sending their resumes all over the place, but anyone paying attention to the news knows what happened and wouldn't dare hire them!" "Exactly. They strut around like kings, but now that they've lost the support of Fiona's family, no one even has time for them!"Fiona simply listened in silence, twirling her champagne glance.Although those sponsored suitors had joined the chat group used solely to insult her and her father, most of them just wanted to suck up to Mark. But now that the damage was done, no one would ever dare want anything to do with them, and that was more than punishment enough.Still, Fiona wasn't about to hunt them down and drive them to desperation, not to mention that they wouldn't have a problem making a living elsewhere after her father had spent his fortune groomi

If Mark refused to accept his punishment, she would make the call, and the bodyguards would drive up to subdue him, tying him to his car anyway. When that happened, there was nothing Mark could do.While Fiona was ready to punish him regardless, she really didn't expect him to simply agree to it.Still, she soon recovered from her surprise and quietly tied him to the car trunk before getting behind the wheel. She looked at the rearview mirror and saw him lowering his gaze, but when he looked up, she had already looked away.As she floored the pedal, he lurched forward uncontrollably and fell painfully on his knees, while his face was scraped against the road and bled.Fiona smirked as she watched and jammed her foot on the brakes, poking her head out the window to watch and wait until he got up.Before he could speak, she was already back inside and drove forward again, returning the favor of what he did to her in the exact same way, dragging him up and down the mountain. She n

Mark's dull gaze promptly lit up, almost unable to believe it as he cried, "Y-Yes!"Fiona was willing to go hiking with him? Didn't that mean she had been listening to his heartfelt declaration of love?As they soon decided on a time and date, Mark promptly returned to his room to pack up.He was beaming even as he did, realizing for the first time how delighted he was with just a simple response from his one true love.On the other hand, there was a dark look in Fiona's eyes even as she watched Mark leave, just as her father appeared out of nowhere. "What are you thinking, Fi?"The wariness in Fiona's eyes faded when she saw her father, and Norman understood right then.Even if Mark did declare his love for her, he didn't know the first thing about her.Otherwise, he would have noticed that she was suddenly wary of everyone around her as a potential threat.Knowing that, there was no way she was going to forgive Mark, and that the hiking trip wasn't really a hiking trip.Clin
