Chapter 3

"How did your brain contain all those topics?!"

Ave shook her head while her arms clanging on me. We are heading to Top Thai which her cousin ordered us to. It's the place where we usually eat.

"Like how you memorized the different veins in our Physiology." I sarcastically say that made her chuckle in response.

She maybe a nagger, but she's one of the most outstanding med students here in our university. The New York University must be proud in having her.

"You gave me tips that's why!" she poked my forehead. "Your photographic memory is more amazing!"

"That's because I always study," I rolled my eyes.

"That's your in born talent!"

She scoffed at me and I just laughed.

"You're really humble, aren't you?" I shook my head. "You're a top student here at NYU."

"What do you think of yourself?"

"I'm a human."

"Rory!"

I just laughed and waved at her frowning cousin who's looking at us.

"You're taking a while," his eyebrows furrowed.

I pointed his cousin, "she's so slow."

"Are you in a bad mood?" I ask.

He glared at me. "You're not answering my calls, woman."

"Oh scary," I chuckled which made him frown. "Dad just introduce a woman to me." I smiled at him.

"Stop that fake smile of yours," he tsk-ed.

"Oh! Rebel's mad!" Ave laughed.

Her cousin just shook his head and ruffled her hair. I fought my urge to laugh when he wrapped her arms around Ave's neck like he's strangling her.

"Let me go, Rebel!"

"I can't hear you," Rebel laughed at his cousin.

I just folded my arms as I watched them. My eyes dropped onto the girl with obsidian eyes. She's Rebel's longtime girlfriend.

"Hey," she smiled at me. "They're like kids, right?"

I chuckled. Neveah is my best friend's girlfriend since high school.

"How's being an archi student?" I asked.

"Fun," she laughed softly, "though stressing because of our transferee classmate."

I frowned. What's with that transferee student?

"Our department's been talking about it," I turned to Ave and I couldn't help but laugh when I saw how her face.

"What happened to your hair?" I laughed inwardly.

She glared at Rebel who just laughed at her.

"Who's the transferee?" he frowned and turned to his girlfriend.

Neveah pinched his nose and chuckled. "You're more handsome than him," Ave and I looked at each other and frowned at the same time.

"Your eyes are getting blurry," Ave said shaking her head. "You need a corneal transplant." She muttered with laugh.

Her cousin just smirked at her. "You needed that more," he pointed his cousin's eyeglasses.

Rebel chuckled as his cousin shot him a death glare. I rolled my eyes when they started bickering like a kid.

"He's Law's best friend," I turned my head to Neveah who's lifting her head to Rebel while the latter was just looking at her.

"The one who supposed to be taking up med?" Ave replied and her eyes widened slightly. "He topped the board exam and aced it!"

I just sighed. This conversation wouldn't stop. They don't seem to run out of stories.

"Are you hungry?" Rebel asked me.

I snorted. "I'm already full from your stories."

He laughed softly and squeezed my cheek. I slapped his hand which he just grinned and put his arm around Neveah's shoulder.

"Let's get some food," he chuckled. "Dr. Hermosa is hungry."

"Whatever you say, Atty. Rojas."

When you're trying to focus on reviewing, but you can't, because there are these disgusting people in front of you.

"Can you please stop?" I grunted to the couple in front of me.

Rebel just stuck his tongue out and continue feeding his girlfriend. I rolled my eyes in annoyance as I placed my earphones into my ears.

The song of Sia's Breathe Me played.

Help, I have done it again

I have been here many times before

Hurt myself again today

And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame

I flipped the next page of our sociology textbook as I listen to the melody of the song. It has always been my comfort song. It's like telling how I wanted someone to know what I'm feeling.

Sia's “Breathe Me” is a cry for help, a cry for hope, a cry for survival. In this song, the narrator talks about the pain she keeps inflicting on herself. The hurt she puts herself through over and over again.

I sighed heavily as I heard the last lyrics of the song. My mind's a mess, but I'm trying regardless.

Deep down, I just wanted to be loved in a way that calms my soul.

I reached out for the blue highlighter and highlighted the adolescence which will be our exam tomorrow. I bit my lower lip when some of my highlighters roll down on the floor.

"Are you reviewing in sociology?" Ave pointed my textbook and those bunch of highlighters inside my pencil bag.

I nodded then crouched down to pick those highlighters on the floor. My hand stopped from picking the yellow highlighter when someone hand it to me.

"Here."

My eyes landed on the pair of white chuck Taylor shoes. I slowly lifted my head and saw a guy wearing a white polo shirt and black pants. Our eyes met. Gazing into his eyes. I was lost in their intensity. It was like looking into a bluest sky and carrying on to infinity. I felt mesmerized, hypnotized, and transfixed all at once.

"Hey Chai!"

I blink and avoided my eyes on him. The guy turned his head to Neveah's direction. I unconsciously put the highlighters back on the table and sat down.

Instead of avoiding my gaze, I enthralled my eyes on him. I had never been this amazed by someone's eyes. I had known people before with blue eyes, but they had always been light blue. His blue eyes were very dark. He got an ocean blue eyes and I just realized I can't swim.

I found heaven in his eyes. And for the first time in a very long time, I could feel the stars within me begin to shine.

His eyes hold everything my soul thirst for.

He was like an angel who descended from heaven. My thoughts scattered like a jumble puzzle. It was as if he's the light that I had been waiting to illuminate my world.
