Chapter 1

Author: Green Fur
I had bought this apartment—a spacious, single-level unit—entirely with my own money before Richard Gregory and I got married.

My work kept me busy, and I traveled often, so I had specifically hired Lydia to handle dinner and the cleaning.

At the time, there happened to be an extra access card for the front gate. I handed it to Richard, reminding him, "Lydia starts her trial tomorrow. Give her this card so she can come and go easily."

He took it with a gentle, reassuring smile.

"Don't worry, honey. I've got this covered."

But today, that card still wasn't with Lydia.

I logged into the electronic lock app. It showed that, over the past month, the card had been used seventeen times.

But both Richard and I used fingerprint unlocking—so who had been using it?

I was lost in thought when the door opened.

Richard had come home.

"Honey, Lydia was late today. She said she couldn't get in without the access card. Didn't I ask you to give it to her a month ago?" I asked casually, as if on a whim.

Richard, adjusting his tie, froze for a moment, then let out an awkward laugh.

"Ah… that. I was so busy back then, I must've forgotten. Don't even know where I put it. I'll look for it and give it to her as soon as I find it."

"Don't worry about it," I said calmly, putting down my magazine. "I'll report it lost to the property management tomorrow and have a new one issued. Otherwise, it's too inconvenient for her to get in and out."

"No!"

Richard spun around sharply, his voice rising several tones.

Seeing my confused expression, he quickly softened, walking over to drape an arm around my shoulders.

"What I mean is… it costs almost a hundred bucks for a replacement card. No need to waste money. It's definitely somewhere in the house. I'll search properly over the next couple of days—I'll find it.

"You work so hard, and finally get home after a long day. Don't let something this small bother you. See? You've been anxious these past few days again. Your face doesn't even look right."

"Doesn't it?" I asked.

"Does. You used to have chubby, rosy cheeks…"

With his playful teasing, I let the matter of the access card drop. But unease lingered in my chest.

That night, while he was in the shower, I picked up his phone.

The passcode hadn't changed—it was still my birthday.

His chat log was clean: no suspicious chats, and even his social media stories were set to three-day visibility.

I opened his shopping apps and scrolled through his order history; all ordinary household items.

Until I clicked on the "Archive Orders."

Among the hidden orders, I saw a necklace purchased a week ago.

The delivery address was his company, and the recipient's name read: Claudia Mankin.

By the time I returned home after finishing all the statements, it was already late at night. The apartment was a wreck. The air still carried that nauseating mix of perfume and blood. I stood in the center of the living room, staring at the home I had once meticulously arranged, and felt a bone-deep exhaustion."Madam…"Lydia was there. I hadn't noticed when she arrived. She stood at the doorway, holding cleaning supplies, her face etched with concern."I heard what happened, so I came as fast as I could," she said. "Ugh, that wretch… how could he ruin the house like this…"She didn't ask any questions. She simply crouched down and began picking up the shards of glass and scattered debris.Watching her stooped figure, a sliver of the ice encasing my heart finally melted."Lydia, don't bother cleaning," I said softly."It's fine, Madam. I can clean it quickly; it'll be spotless in no time," she replied."No," I shook my head, surveying the wreckage around me. "This house is di

Even my mother-in-law was dumbfounded. "Richard… you took out a high-interest loan?""This is fraud. Forging a company seal is a criminal offense," I said, staring at Richard's face, drained of all color."Richard, cheating might have been a civil matter, but this… this is a criminal case. Once I hand this USB to the police, guess how many years you'll be spending behind bars?"With a thud, Richard collapsed to his knees."Honey… no, Ashley!" His voice trembled, tears and snot streaking his face. "I… I was wrong! I never dared to borrow! I was just… asking! I didn't stamp anything! Please… don't call the police! If you do, I'm finished! My mom… she's old… she can't handle this!""Now you're feeling regret?" I spat, kicking him aside. "Earlier, when you demanded half my house, did you even think about how my parents would react?"Seeing the situation spiral out of control, Claudia's eyes darted around. She immediately tried to distance herself."Richard! You actually gambled?! An

My father's hands trembled with rage."You worthless bastard! Living off someone else and acting like you're superior? If Ashley doesn't work for money, do you expect to survive on thin air?""You dare hit me?" Richard clutched his face, his eyes dark and venomous."Fine," I said, voice cold, "since the mask is off, we clearly can't go on like this.""Divorce? Sure. This house is worth 1.5 million now—I want half. And the cars, the savings—everything in the house? Split it too!""Keep dreaming!" my mother screeched. "You haven't paid a single cent—what right do you have to the house?""I'm her legal husband! I've endured her for three years in this house! No money? Fine, then I won't divorce." Richard shrugged, unrepentant."I'll just move Claudia in. I have the key card. Let's see who outlasts whom! I'm not afraid of you. Ashley, you're an executive—you care about your face. Me? I don't give a damn!"So this was his true face. A leech, shameless and utterly brazen. Even his fr

"A misunderstanding?" I sneered. "Fine. Since it's a 'surprise,' let's all enjoy it."I pulled out my phone and connected it via Bluetooth to the 75-inch TV in the living room."Perfect. I happen to have a little video of how you 'set up this surprise.' Everyone, enjoy."The next second, the giant screen lit up with an obscene scene. Two pale bodies twisted together, every intimate motion captured in excruciating detail.Moans and gasps exploded through the surround sound, filling the living room. The footage was crystal clear—even the mole on Richard's butt was visible.Claudia, who had just been sweet and clever, went pale and clutched her face, trying to flee. But the guards blocked her path with perfect timing.Richard's face turned red, fists clenched so tight his knuckles whitened. Then he lunged at me, gripping my hand with the kind of strength that felt like he could crush my bones."Honey! Honey, I was wrong! I was blinded for a moment! She seduced me! My heart only b

The room fell into a deathly silence.Everyone's eyes shifted from the lingerie to Richard. His face turned a deep red with embarrassment."Th-That… that is a gift for you! I wanted to surprise you!""Oh? For me?" I raised an eyebrow."This is size C… I'm a B. You've been married to me for three years and didn't even notice?"He was struck dumb, mouth agape, unable to form a word.At that moment, a sound came from the master bedroom. All eyes snapped toward the door."Someone in there?" my father's voice was sharp, clearly displeased."No! Absolutely no one!" Richard spread his arms to block the bedroom door, shouting urgently."It's the cat! Yes, a stray cat must've gotten in!""A stray cat?" I sneered, giving the security guards a subtle look."Then please help me catch this 'stray cat,'" I said. Two guards immediately stepped forward and yanked Richard aside. The bedroom door was kicked open.Everyone craned their necks to look inside. But the expected screams never

Richard was in the kitchen, cooking noodles, when the doorbell rang. He jumped in surprise."Who is it?" he called out.Claudia stirred, annoyed, rolling over in bed."Is it the delivery? That was quick.""I'll go check."Richard turned off the stove and, wearing only a pair of boxers, went to the door.He peeked through the peephole—and instantly went pale, as if his soul had fled.Outside, a crowd of a dozen or more people had gathered, chatting and laughing."What… what's going on?! Why are they here?!" His legs went weak, his face drained of color."What's wrong, Richard? Who's here?" Claudia asked, rubbing her eyes and stepping out in her robe."Quick! Hide!" Richard hissed, shoving her toward the bedroom. "My parents and my friends are here… and a bunch of others!""What?!" Claudia sat up, fully awake. "Where… where do I hide?""The master bedroom! Lock the door! Don't make a sound!"He shoved her into the bedroom, too flustered even to clean up the compromising trac
