Chapter 3

Author: Shark cat
They shook their heads. I gritted my teeth against the pain and pushed myself up to sit on the bed.

“It’s simple. You two just need to be Golden Flowers, and you can bring in investors for me.

“That fatso wouldn’t dare cross the local big shot.”

Shannon bit her lower lip. “All we have to do is become Golden Flowers?”

As the older sister, she was clearly the sharper one.

I patted her head, looked her in the eye, and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear.

“Trust me.”

She blushed and got shy until she could not look me in the eye anymore.

Meanwhile, Jadine agreed to do her part right away out of guilt.

At midnight, I brought them to the venue. All they had to do was sit up on the round platform.

The more Golden Flowers people threw at them, the higher their value climbed.

I hid in a dark corner, and Shannon instinctively looked around for me. The moment she found me, she broke into a smile.

However, my eyes stung.

They kept receiving more and more Golden Flowers. With no idea what it meant, they just laughed happily.

After it was over, I gathered up all the Golden Flowers and made them into bouquets for the two of them.

“This is all real gold. Keep it somewhere safe.”

The girls panicked a little, and Jadine kept shaking her head. “Th-This is way too much!”

I smiled and said, “Rich people don’t care about pocket change like this.”

I looked at Shannon, who still had not moved, and joked, “What? Do you want me to get down on one knee or something?”

Only then did she take the flowers. Her ears turned bright red, and her eyes were full of shy affection.

My heart pounded as I looked at her.

Then, Jadine threw her arms around me and sobbed uncontrollably, breaking my train of thought.

“Shannon and I thought we weren’t going to make the cut. Sir, is that enough gold flowers?”

I nodded and wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. “That’s enough.”

Then, I brought over two cocktails, with something to help them sleep mixed in. It was there to make things easy for certain big shots, and it doubled as the leash that would keep them tied to me from then on.

As I mixed the drinks, I said casually, “You helped me out this time, so I’ll give you ten thousand dollars each.

“So, what are you going to do with the money?”

Shannon said gently, “I’m going to use it to fix up the guesthouse for you. Last time I stood up for Jadine, the terrace and the door got wrecked.”

My hand trembled, and I could barely keep the glass steady.

Jadine chimed in without hesitation, saying, “Then, I’ll figure out a way to help you get the word out about this place!

“Oh, it’s New Year’s. Let’s have a New Year’s Eve dinner together tonight.”

Shannon smiled. “I’ll do the cooking. What do you feel like eating?”

My throat tightened a little. I paused for a few seconds before saying, “I could really go for some pot roast. My mom hasn’t made it for me in ages.”

She looked at me gently. “Okay, let’s have a drink first, then. Call it a little celebration for getting through today in one piece.”

I slipped the necklace off her. “That color doesn’t suit you. Let me get you a new one.”

She blushed, lowered her head, and murmured in assent.

I watched them walk off, discussing which groceries to buy.

The electric current in my wrist grew stronger. I slammed the watch onto the floor. It landed with a sharp crack.

I knew I had made a terrible mistake.

I laughed and spat out a mouthful of blood. “Edward, there’s a secret I never told you.”He stopped in his tracks and shot me a sharp look. “What secret?”My breath was faint. I barely had any strength left. “Come closer. Look at me. Do I really scare you now?”He hesitated for a long time, and I kept talking. “It’s about my mom.”His expression shifted slightly, and he crouched down to listen. I leaned close to his ear and said, “When I was going through my mom’s things, a letter fell out. She said she was willing to die for you.”His breathing grew ragged. He glared at me fiercely. “What else did she say?”My smile widened as my hand moved toward my pocket. “She said she loved you. She’ll be waiting for you in the underworld.”The next moment, blood splattered. I drove the small knife Shannon had left me into his neck. This knife had originally been meant for the two of us. If one of us did not die outright, the other was supposed to end our suffering. He clutched his nec

I looked completely unbothered. A slap on the wrist like that could never make up for Jadine’s death or all the years of suffering I had endured.Shannon gently set a small bag down on the stool. Before ending it all, I wanted to ask a few questions. I looked at Edward and asked, “Did you ever regret what happened to my mom?”He shook his head calmly. Then, I looked at George. “You’re the one who killed Jadine. I want you to apologize to her in front of her grave. Loud enough for everyone to hear. Three times. I want you to own up to what you did. Will you do it?”George was furious. “You want me to apologize to a loose woman? Jordan, have you lost your mind?”He lunged at me, aiming to strike, but Edward’s butler, Keith Lance, held him back. Keith barely moved, yet George could not shift even half an inch. I knew full well he was not just any butler.Edward had been guarding against me. I laughed openly and without holding back. “Fine then. Go keep her company in the under

I stared at the bag and headed to the warehouse without a moment’s hesitation.Along the way, I thought about a lot of things. I realized I had truly accomplished nothing in this life. I had failed to protect my mother, and I had failed to kill my father. Then, I had failed to make it to the end with the woman I loved. All in all, I had lived a wretched, meaningless life. So, I decided to drag some people down with me.When I reached the warehouse, Shannon was tied up in the middle. The moment she saw me, tears streamed down her face. She was usually gentle and obedient. However, at this moment, she screamed at me, “Go! Why did you even come?”I sat down beside her with the bag on my back and pointed at the sunset with a smile. “Look. The sunset’s gorgeous. Being alive is the greatest.”However, there was a bomb in my bag that was ready to go off at any moment.I stood up, held her head, and kissed her deeply. “Shannon, promise me you’ll live.”She was in despair as she sobb

By the time I got there, the VIP room was a total wreck. Jadine lay in the middle of it.I was so furious that I screamed at George and everyone else there, “I’ll kill anyone who tries to stop me!”Nobody blocked my way. However, George, who was lurking in the shadows, just laughed. “She’s already dead. Take her if you want.”Panic hit me, and my body started trembling uncontrollably. That was when I finally realized that something was wrong with her. I dropped to my knees and gently patted her face, sobbing. “Jadine! Jadine, it’s Jordan. I’m here. Wake up. Come on, wake up!”No matter how frantically I shouted, her glistening eyes never opened again. When I let go, her arm fell limply. The last bit of warmth in her skin slowly went cold, and the chaotic, flickering lights faded away.Under the harsh lights, I finally saw the full extent of her injuries. Jadine had been tortured beyond recognition. She had been tortured so savagely that no one showed her even a shred of decen

When I woke up, the first person I saw was Shannon, fast asleep. Jadine noticed I was awake and started to say something. I put a finger to my lips, so she just looked at me and kept quiet.I gently pulled my hand out of Shannon’s grip. Even that small movement was enough to wake her. She opened her eyes and looked at me. They were red and swollen from crying. She threw her arms around me. “The doctor said... he said you...”I cut her off with a calm smile. “That I don’t have much time left. I know. It’s okay. I’ll just be living on in a different way.”I waved Jadine over, and she came toward me with her head down.I coughed a few times before I could speak. “Stop following me. Move to another city and focus on your studies. They won’t dare make too big a scene.”Shannon shook her head. “I’m not leaving! I’ll earn the money for your medical bills!”Jadine refused, too. She looked at Shannon and me with a complicated expression. “I’m not leaving either. After all, you’re the g

“I don’t have much time left, George. Don’t think for a second I don’t know what you’re up to. “You’ve watched me get more and more successful working under your father all these years, and it’s been eating at you. Now you want to take me down and take everything I’ve got.“You’ve been with every kind of woman out there. There’s no way you’d lose control like some wild animal that easily.”George stopped what he was doing and looked at me like nothing had happened. Then, he poured himself a row of shots and said casually, “Jordan, you’ve made a fortune these past ten years. You’ve completely outshone me. “Even my father’s men say you’re more like his son than I am. Isn’t that right?”I sneered. “Cut the nonsense! My business, all of it, goes to you. I don’t want a single cent!“Remember this, George. I fought my way up on my own! If you don’t let them go, and if you push me too far, I’ll go all out and fight you to the death today!”I patted my pocket as a warning. He did no
