The evening breeze carried the salty tang of the sea and the cold fragrance of bourbon.

Hidden in the shadows of Container No. 3 on the new dock, I clutched my gown so tightly that my fingertips turned pale.

The piercing beam of the searchlight cut through the night, illuminating the deck of the cargo ship as if it were daytime.

Vincenzo Rizzi stood at the center of the deck with his arm around Sofia Russo. Around her neck, the black diamond necklace gleamed harshly under the intense light, stinging my eyes.

That necklace was once the token of the marriage alliance between Vincenzo and me. He had caressed the gem and promised he'd love me forever.

But now, as his fingers lightly brushed the clasp on Sofia's neck, the tenderness in his eyes was something I had never seen in all our 12 years together.

Sofia was dressed in the dark red silk gown he loved most, casting her eyes down with a soft smile in the salty sea breeze. She was every bit the picture of the family's Madre.

Just then, my younger brother, Ettore Giordano, strode forward and loudly congratulated Vincenzo and Sofia, "Don Rizzi, Sofia, I couldn't be happier for you both! You two are truly the perfect match!"

At that moment, he only had eyes for Sofia, as if he had completely forgotten how her mother, Elena Caruso, had once tormented and beaten us two in the past.

Vincenzo said nothing more, his gaze lingering on Sofia. Then, he leaned down and kissed her deeply. The kiss lasted a full ten minutes, draining away 12 years of my obsession.

Sofia's legs went weak, and she leaned into his embrace. He scooped her up into his arms without hesitation, the tenderness in his eyes clear for all to see.

Seeing this, Ettore shouted even louder, "May Don Rizzi and Sofia be forever united, sharing a lifetime of love!"

The applause and cheers from the deck, carried by the sound of the waves, reached my ears. Yet, I stood frozen in place, the surrounding commotion completely cut off from me.

There was a dull and suffocating ache in my chest, as if I had been ruthlessly crushed by the dock's steel bars.

I took out my phone and dialed Vincenzo's number. The phone in his pocket vibrated, and when he glanced at the caller ID from the corner of his eyes, his face instantly darkened. At the same time, a barely noticeable flicker of panic crossed his eyes.

He was about to decline the call, but after Sofia gently touched his arm and whispered a few words in his ear, he turned impatiently and walked toward a quiet corner of the cargo ship.

With his back to the crowd, he answered the call.

"Hello?" he asked in a deliberately hushed voice, his tone filled with impatience and feigned calm.

My throat tightened, and I suppressed the surging bitterness and pain to ask, "Where are you? Didn't you promise to celebrate my birthday with me tonight?"

He scoffed, his tone dripping with scorn and disgust. Even though he kept his voice low, his subordinates nearby could faintly hear it. Clearly, he had no regard for my feelings.

"God, you're so annoying! Since you're pregnant, why don't you just stay put and quit keeping tabs on me? Isabella, do you have nothing better to do than to pester me? I already told you I'm handling urgent family matters with Sofia.

"Can't you understand that? Ettore is here, too! Only someone with a dirty mind like yours would think everything revolves around a secret affair!"

His words came rapid-fire, laced with the panic and fury of someone caught in a lie.

Vincenzo had once promised that, no matter what happened, he would be with me for my birthday every year.

My fingers holding the phone turned icy cold.

Just then, the hushed conversation of two dockworkers beside me drifted over.

"For this ceremony, Don Rizze halted arms shipment at the new dock for months. He even cleared out a cargo ship specifically to serve as the venue."

Those words shattered the last shred of hope I had been clinging to.

Three years later, I had become the most influential Donna in mafia history. The family's business spanned the globe, and the power of Snake Eye had grown stronger than ever.No one dared to provoke me lightly, and I had countless subordinates who were loyal, devoted, and willing to go through fire and water for me.Ettore had also matured greatly. No longer the fool who had once been blinded by others, he was now my most trusted aide. Not only did he assist in managing the family's daily affairs and handling various crises, but he also acted with a steady, seasoned maturity that had earned him the deep trust of the senior members. One night, I returned to my villa after work. As soon as I stepped out of the car, I saw someone standing at the entrance. The man was emaciated beyond recognition, his hair gone gray and one eye missing, the other clouded and dull. Leaning on a wooden stick, he walked with a limp, dressed in tattered clothes that gave off a foul odor.I frowned and wa

Vincenzo remained on his knees, muttering over and over, "I was wrong."But I couldn't even be bothered to spare him a glance. After all, a man like him didn't deserve my forgiveness, much less a place in my sight."Take him away and lock him in the basement," I commanded my Soldato coldly. "Let him truly experience the suffering Ettore and I endured there all those years."Vincenzo looked up in terror. "Isabella, no! I know I was wrong. Please spare me!""Spare you?" I let out a cold laugh. "When Ettore and I were starving, freezing, and being beaten in the basement, who spared us? When my mom was driven to her death, who spared her? Vincenzo, this is the retribution you deserve."My Soldato stepped forward and dragged Vincenzo away. He struggled and roared, but no one paid him any attention.Watching him being dragged away, pitiful and powerless, I felt no trace of sympathy. Instead, there was only the satisfaction of finally seeing justice served.Seeing the situation turning

On the day of the senior members' meeting, Vincenzo and Sofia stood on the platform, assuring them that they would resolve the family's crisis and stabilize the arm business as quickly as possible.Vincenzo spoke at length about his plans, while Sofia stood beside him, occasionally offering a fragile smile in an attempt to win sympathy.Just then, the conference room door was violently kicked open.I walked in wearing a black leather jacket and sunglasses, followed by my Underboss, Camilla Allegri, and over a dozen elite members of Snake Eye. Our presence overwhelmed the room."Isabella? How dare you come back?" Vincenzo pointed at me, shocked and furious. "You traitor! How dare you show your face here?"I took off my sunglasses and stared coldly at him. "Traitor? I think the real traitors here are the 'frail beauty' by your side and that treacherous father-in-law of yours."Sofia's face turned pale, but she forced herself to appear calm. "Isabella, how could you say such a thing

One day, a Soldato delivered a recording to me. It was a conversation between my father, Luigi Giordano, and a black-market dealer. In it, he clearly admitted that, in order to embezzle the funds from that arms shipment, he had deliberately tampered with the container's wiring to cause the explosion and even planned the entire accident as a cover-up.There was also a medical report on Mom. It revealed that, one month before her death, Mom had been continuously dosed with hallucinogenic drugs, leading to her mental breakdown and eventual "suicide".The doctor who prescribed the medication was a distant relative of Elena's who had since emigrated abroad. After I compiled this evidence, I sent it anonymously to several senior members within the family who had long been dissatisfied with Vincenzo. They were veterans who had fought alongside my grandfather, Edoardo Prodi, to build the family's legacy. Moreover, they held deep affection for Mom, had always disapproved of Dad and Elena's

After I left, Ettore was tidying up Sofia's room when he came across a toy car. It was a toy we had played with together as children. He had accidentally lost it back then and cried for days until I helped him find it.The moment he saw the toy car, long-buried memories surged back—the dark basement, the musty smell, the wrenching hunger, and Elena's vicious slaps. These fragmented memories sent a splitting pain through his head. He shook his head, trying to push the thoughts away. But for the first time, a crack formed in his trust toward Sofia. He recalled the things I had said before and the unanswered questions surrounding Mom's death. A terrifying thought began to take root in his mind—could it be that everything I said was true?He took out his phone and dialed Sofia's number."Sofia, where are you right now? There's something I need to ask you," he said in a probing tone.Sofia's voice on the other end was syrupy sweet. "Ettore, I'm handling some family matters with Vincez

Lying on the operating table, I instinctively touched my abdomen. This was where a tiny life had once been growing. He should have been a testament to the love between Vincenzo and me, but now, he was nothing but a bitter reminder. As the anesthesiologist prepared to administer the injection, soft footsteps approached from the doorway. It wasn't the nurse I had dealt with before, but an unfamiliar face. Her eyes shifted uneasily, her fingers gripping a sealed syringe tightly.Instantly, every alarm in my mind went off. As expected, Elena couldn't resist making her move. All these years, she had seen me as a thorn in her side. Driving Mom to her death wasn't enough, and now, she wouldn't even spare the baby in my womb."Which department are you from? You're not the nurse I spoke with earlier." I deliberately slowed my speech while quietly reaching under the pillow. Hidden there was a voice recorder I had prepared long ago.I pressed the record button. The unfamiliar nurse grew even
