I ignored her and traced the source of that scent.

The cloying smell of white peach clung to Silas's collar.

My heart plummeted, and my wolf snarled restlessly inside me.

Every instinct recoiled at the scent of another female.

My lips parted, but my throat was bone-dry.

"Silas, why do you smell like an Omega?"

For an Omega's scent to permeate an Alpha's collar, they must have stayed close for a long time.

He casually adjusted his collar, trying to mask the scent.

But when he saw how pale I'd gone, he instinctively stepped toward me to explain.

But Vivian caught his arm first, pressing herself against him.

"It's mine. He picked it up this morning when we were discussing business in the study."

Her voice was as saccharine as that suffocating perfume.

Silas froze.

Vivian relaxed her shoulders and tilted her head at me, all innocence.

She deliberately toyed with Silas's collar.

Silas didn't push Vivian's hand away. He addressed me instead.

"Work's been busy. She's been staying in the room next to mine. Don't overthink it."

The study was so quiet I could hear my own breathing.

My mind went completely blank.

Silas never let me handle his clothes. He was obsessive about cleanliness and order.

He couldn't stand the thought of anyone else touching what he wore, not even me, his mate.

But now he'd broken that rule for Vivian. His secretary.

A bitter ache swelled in my chest.

I stared at the hair scattered across the floor. My beautiful golden hair, the one thing I'd always been proud of, was now nothing but ugly, uneven stubble.

I said nothing. The room fell deathly silent.

Silas opened his mouth to speak, but when he saw my reddened eyes, he just frowned slightly.

He turned to Vivian, his voice low.

"Vivian, apologize."

Vivian burst into tears.

"Apologize? Silas, you really want me to apologize to her?

"Weren't you the one who said I could trim her split ends? How is it my fault it went wrong?

"Besides, hair grows back. Why are you forcing me to apologize?"

Silas's brow furrowed as he moved partly in front of her.

"Vivian, just do it!"

Vivian wrenched free of his protective arm, her voice cracking.

"Don't touch me!

"What did I even do wrong? Now you're ganging up on me too?

"Fine. I'll apologize. Happy now?"

She bent at the waist, lowering her head enough to bare the back of her neck. "Sophia, I overstepped."

At the sight of the stubborn set of her mouth and the tears shining in her eyes, tenderness flickered across Silas's face, and his tone softened.

Silas turned back to me, frowning. "Vivian already apologized. She didn't mean it.

"This is mostly my fault. I should have told you beforehand.

"Can you stop holding this against her? I'm begging you."

My life didn't change much after that.More and more contracts needed my approval.I was stretched out on the leather couch, rubbing my temples from exhaustion, when Lily burst in, excited, with good news."You'll never guess who I saw in the old district today. Those two cheating assholes, Silas and Vivian!"I turned my glass in my hands.Lily went on, clearly relishing every word. They'd moved again, to an even shabbier place with no elevator.Vivian could barely walk with her belly that big, yet there she was at the supermarket, hunting for marked-down produce. This was a woman who used to drink only imported water. Now she was standing in line at a public hospital for prenatal checkups.Silas had been going to job interviews at small firms in his old suit. But the moment anyone found out he'd been banished by the Lycaon family, they avoided him as if he carried the plague. The last time he'd tried to put prenatal vitamins on his tab, the pharmacy owner threw him out.He hadn't even

Edmund inclined his head. "Lane Vaughn won the Alpha challenge."The board members exchanged glances. No one looked surprised. The Thorncrown Pack had always been a vassal of the Lycaons. It didn't matter who led them.Every deal ended up at this table. The only difference now was that Lane sat where Silas used to be.Two months later, Edmund reported on Silas's situation. He was no longer the young wolf who'd had nothing but boundless ambition.Years of being flattered had left him unprepared for the fall. He'd forgotten how to humble himself and ask for resources or opportunities. He'd tried reaching out to old business partners, but every door slammed shut. The day he'd promised was nowhere in sight.I held my water glass and motioned for Edmund to continue."The apartment he's staying in has had its water and power cut off for unpaid fees. As for Ms. Hayes..."Edmund paused, clearly choosing his words carefully."She's used to living like a princess. Now she has to buy groceries an

Vivian's lips quivered as she shielded her belly."I love Silas, but I can't let my baby suffer because of me.""You want this baby to have every right to call Silas Dad, don't you?"Vivian looked to Silas for help."You promised our child a happy, complete family."I tilted my head and looked at Silas."Did you hear that? Your little girlfriend is begging you."The lawyer placed the divorce papers in front of him at just the right moment."Sign." I set the pen on top of the agreement."Do you really want to do this?" His voice went hoarse."Sophie..."It was my nickname, one no one had used in a long time. The last time I'd heard it was when he carried me into the emergency room, my body covered in blood."Don't call me that. You don't get to anymore."Silas stared at the pages, his fingers trembling. He wanted to fight back, to yell, to slam the table and demand to know who gave me the right. But when he finally looked up and scanned the room, the reality hit him.He had nothing. No

Every head in the room turned toward me.I wore a simple black skirt suit, no makeup except for one detail. The only color was the vivid red of my lipstick.Silas went rigid the instant he saw me. He hadn't expected me to be here. The smirk on Vivian's face froze.I walked straight to the other end of the table, pulled out my chair, and sat down.I placed a folder on the table. My voice was calm."Silas, you've taken advantage of the love I once had for you. Again and again, you thought you could push past every line I drew."I looked up, my gaze settling on his face without a trace of emotion."It ends now."The room was so quiet you could hear people breathing.Silas's hand tightened on the edge of the table, his knuckles white.Vivian's head snapped up, her voice shrill."Sophia, who gave you the right to say that?"I ignored her and pushed the folder forward. My voice stayed low, but every word reached every corner of the room."The share freeze was finalized last night. Effective

Silas visibly froze at my words. He'd assumed I'd lose it and use the family's power to hold them. But Vivian whimpered impatiently in his arms.Without a word, Silas turned and walked out with Vivian.Edmund came to my side and asked softly."My lady... are you really letting him go?"I watched the taillights vanish into the dark."Let him go, Edmund."When the pack was at war, I took that blade for him because he was my mate. Now that he's leaving with another woman's child, he's nothing but Silas Gray."I turned away. "Back to the main house."I took one last look at the brightly lit, now empty, estate."And notify Legal. Send every regional board member the expense records showing that Silas used company resources to support the other woman."After that, Silas never came back.Edmund reported that pack members had spotted them at a baby store.Silas had been helping Vivian pick out a crib.I kept my composure, signing company documents in the study.Notifications kept piling up on

The moment the gates flew open, every one of Silas's men froze. It wasn't the fleet of luxury cars that frightened them. It was the emblem on the plates. The Moonbane wolf-head crest of the Lycaon family. The roar of engines drove them back, step by step. The last car was a black Rolls-Royce Phantom. The rear door opened. An elderly man with silver-streaked hair stepped out, leaning on a bone-carved cane.He wore a tailored charcoal suit and walked at an unhurried pace.Twelve guards in black followed behind him.Edmund Ward, our family's longtime steward, stopped in front of Silas. His tone was steady. But the authority radiating from him made every pack member present lower their shoulders in submission."Let her go. Do you have any idea who you're touching?"The two pack members snatched their hands back as if they'd been burned.Edmund simply extended his hand, and one of the guards snatched the parchment out of Vivian's hands. He folded it, slipped it into his pocket, and turned t
