Oliver's POV

"Hey! Miss Harrington is being so generous. Why aren't you on your knees, groveling before your master and thanking her?"

The guests around us joined in, mocking me with laughter.

I stood alone in a corner and looked at Camille's cold, indifferent expression.

Did she also see our relationship as nothing more than that of master and servant?

Ten years ago, my parents had passed away one after the other, and my grandmother had fallen ill soon afterward.

At my most desperate, when I needed money more than anything, Camille paid to buy my services, and the two of us signed a special contract.

Under the terms of the contract, I had to take courses and meet all her emotional needs. I had to study etiquette and learn how to drink properly so that I could become the kind of male companion she could proudly bring to events. I also had to learn martial arts so that I could serve as her personal bodyguard.

Then there were finance, nursing, cooking, and countless other subjects. Every day, I attended one class after another. I had to master everything necessary to keep up with her work and take care of every aspect of her life.

When you added it all up, neither of us had really lost out. I had traded my dignity for 10 more years of my grandmother's life.

Meanwhile, Camille had spent what amounted to a trivial sum for her to buy herself a perfect boyfriend who would remain by her side for 10 years.

But somewhere along the way, I had grown greedy. I had foolishly started wanting a love of my own and forgotten that, under our contract, she was nothing more than my client.

That foolish hope had completely snuffed out the tiny spark of love that had only just begun to grow between us.

When all was said and done, our relationship was nothing more than a financial transaction.

The contract came before everything else, so I refused to embarrass Camille in front of everyone. Instead, I picked up the wineglass and drained it in one go as a gesture of thanks.

Before she could say anything, her first love pursed his lips in displeasure and pulled her even closer, deliberately fanning the flames.

"Camille, you've spoiled him far too much. Even 200,000 dollars isn't enough to get him on his knees. Are you raising a servant or treating him like royalty?" Christopher snarked. "If it were me, I'd have dropped to my knees and groveled in gratitude a long time ago."

With Christopher leading the charge, the people below the stage began shouting even louder.

"If he won't get on his knees, I will. I'll only take 100,000 dollars."

"10,000 dollars is enough for me. He won't even get on his knees for 200,000 dollars? Talk about ungrateful."

Every one of them was a wealthy heir. None of them needed the money. They were only saying those things to make a joke out of me.

Yet at that moment, everyone seemed to think I was the one being ungrateful. Even the staff looked at me with open disdain, as though they couldn't stand the sight of a man freeloading off a woman while acting so entitled.

I raised my head and met Camille's cold gaze.

"Do you think the money isn't enough?" she asked icily. "I can give you more."

I stared at her.

Even she wanted to force me to get on my knees.

But the Camille I remembered had always valued money above everything else. She had gone to great lengths to build up my image, all so I could help her make even more money.

In the past, if anyone so much as made a snide remark about me being a kept man, Camille would fly into a rage and immediately step forward to defend me.

Camille was consumed by guilt. Before she realized it, she found herself standing before the grave of Oliver's grandmother."Grandma, I lost Oliver," she murmured as she cleared away the withered flowers in front of the grave. Tears slipped down her cheeks and fell uncontrollably to the ground.Camille still remembered the old woman lying in her hospital bed, clutching her hand and pleading with her, "Miss Harrington, I know you're a good person. I also know there's such a difference between you and my Ollie. The two of you may not make it to the end."We're truly grateful that you paid my medical expenses and gave this old lady a little more time to live."I only hope that, for my sake, you'll remember the 10 years you've shared. If he ever leaves, please don't make things too difficult for him."Back then, Camille hadn't taken her words seriously at all. She had believed that Oliver stayed by her side simply for the money. As long as the Harringtons didn't go bankrupt, he would

I'll just buy you another one."Camille had been about to return to her room, but his words sent her into a sudden rage. She rarely raised her voice at Christopher, but this time, she couldn't hold back. "Get out. Get out of my house. Oliver is my boyfriend. I won't allow you to humiliate him."Christopher's temper flared at the sight of her pointing at him and berating him. "I want to see all the security footage from the day Oliver left."The housekeeper wiped the sweat from his forehead and hastily made up an excuse. "The cameras happened to malfunction, and the backup from that day was lost. You see..."Camille let out a soft scoff. Did they really think such petty tricks could fool her? All the security cameras in her home had backups. She returned to her room, contacted her assistant, and had a copy of the footage sent over. As soon as she received it, she opened the file and began watching. When the footage showed the housekeeper stopping Oliver and forcibly searching his suitcase, Camille slammed the cup beside her onto the floor.Even she had never treated Oliver that way. How dare these bootlicking dogs humiliate him in public? She forced herself to keep watching. Even after searching his suitcase, they still refused to let him leave. "Miss, are you listening?"Camille had been lost in thought and hadn't heard the housekeeper. His voice pulled her from her memories."Right away. Book me the earliest flight available. Camille flew into a rage. "Oliver is my boyfriend. Who gave you the nerve to kick him out?"Her furious scolding frightened the housekeeper, who stammered out an explanation. "M-Miss, there's been a misunderstanding. Mr. Reed left on his own..."Camille's agitation only grew. "Find him and bring him back immediately, or you're all fired!"She hung up, grabbed her purse, and headed for the door.Christopher followed her. "What happened?"Camille didn't answer. She called for the driver and ordered him to take them home. She had lost all interest in staying for the rest of the welcome-back banquet.Christopher followed her into the car. When he learned that Oliver had left, he raised an eyebrow. "Don't worry too much. He's obsessed with money. Do you really think he could bear to leave you, his rich benefactor?"I bet he's just upset because you embarrassed him in front of everyone today. This whole running-away-from-home stunt is his way of threatening you."You're not actually

"Victor, think of this money as a loan," I said.Victor didn't say anything. He simply patted me on the shoulder and assured me, "Don't worry. With that woman blacklisting you, none of the major establishments will hire you anymore. But I've got you. I have plenty of connections, so I'll find you other jobs later."I nodded gratefully. Just as I was wondering how I could raise some money, a notification popped up on my phone: an 1,000-dollar deposit had hit my account. It was payment from one of my previous part-time jobs. They had owed me the money for several months, and it had finally come through.I immediately used my phone to buy a plane ticket overseas. Then I turned to Victor. "Victor, thank you for taking care of me all these years. I'm leaving, and I probably won't be coming back. Once I find a job and get settled over there, I'll pay back the 200 dollars."After saying goodbye to Victor, I returned to the house to collect my identification documents and belongings. The
