Melissa’s POV

I’m about to cross the street when all of a sudden, a motorcycle screeches into a halt in front of me.

I step back, ready to yell, but then the rider takes off their helmet, and I’m met with the androgynously handsome face of someone I know.

Dylan.

Dylan is my good friend from college, a devastatingly good-looking tomboy who got girls wherever she went. I remember her being a little bit slimmer in college, but now she has put on some muscle. I actually have to step back in shock because of how good she looks.

“Melissa,” she says, her voice a deep purr. “Come on, pretty. I’ll take you for a ride.”

“Dylan,” I say, shaking my head in disbelief. “How did you even know I’m here? It’s been way too long!”

“I know.” She grins as she puts a helmet on my head and secures it. “Yolanda told me that you’re joining the competition, and I thought I would show up for support. But well, I got… occupied earlier.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Another girl who won’t leave you alone?”

Third Person POVFor a moment, Eleanor can’t breathe. She can’t even properly register what’s happening. She looks at her side of the street, wondering if maybe there has been a mistake. Maybe the side with the most people is actually her event. Maybe she’s the one who didn’t know what’s going on….But as though determined to prove her wrong, fate drops Heather right then and there, rushing out of the hotel entrance and waves her arms for her. “Eleanor! Eleanor, over here!”“I can see you,” Eleanor hisses as she gets out of the limo. “What are you doing screaming my name? Did you mix up the venues?”Heather shakes her head. For the past few weeks or so, Eleanor has been acting weird. It got a little better leading up to the launch when they got the stolen designs. Heather was actually relieved to finally work on something that’s not terrible. But then, this happened.“None of the guests confirmed,” Heather says at last, embarrassed that she had to say these words out loud. “I thought

Melissa’s POVMy body heats up, and I’m not sure if it’s from repulsion or pity.Or even a sense of familiarity.Maybe even a rush of affection. The part of me that longed for something like this from him a long time ago.“Please,” he keeps begging, and I suddenly get struck with a realization. He means it.For the first time, I can actually believe that he misses me.But it’s too much too late.I push him off me, successfully this time. I watch as he sways in his spot and finally land on the ground.“I’m not Melissa,” I spit out at him. “Your regret is catching up to you, huh? Do you feel guilty now? For everything you put her through?” When he doesn’t say anything, I scoff. “Even if I were Melissa, do you really think that I would forgive you? Do you think you can just cry in front of me and make it all go away?”Andrew looks up at me. “I don’t know. All I know is that it’s way too big to be a coincidence. You are her! You are my wife!”“No.” I smirk. “The wife you’re speaking of is

  • When Our Daughter Died, My Husband Cheated   166 - Back To Me

Melissa’s POVDays pass. Those days turn into a week. Until there’s only one day left before the launch. The launch for my own clothing line… and Eleanor’s.I kept everything under control this time. No one else is allowed in the premises of my studio. Zane has hired guards not only for me but for the entirety of my staff, to make sure that none of them would get hurt before we launch anything. Yolanda also has a full security team making sure no one will come back to cause her more harm.Everything is set for me now.Over the past week, I developed designs, better than the ones that Eleanor stole. Realizing that calling Andrew has yielded no results, I figured that he must have taken Eleanor’s side on this one. That’s not new to me at all.Of course Andrew will take her side.So I took it upon myself to make everything better. My winter collection is stunning. I’m in the studio now, and inspecting every last detail before my launch through a fashion show tomorrow. I have a collection

  • When Our Daughter Died, My Husband Cheated   165 - Hospital

Andrew’s POVMy hands start to quiver, the shakes spreading all the way down to the tips of my toes as I stare at the notes. The same swoosh at the letter ’S’. The same little circle that Melissa used to dot her letter ‘I’. My eyes swim when I try to see all the letters, vaguely wondering why and how I got to memorize every single detail of her handwriting. I never thought I paid that much attention, but here I am.And I’m just drinking it all in with a strange sensation in my chest….Almost like I’m longing for her.“Andrew,” Eleanor tries to say, and I lift my head to look at her. “Are you listening to me?”I don’t answer. I don’t even know how to answer. I keep staring at the notes and my heart just folds in on itself. This has to be the same handwriting….But how?Melissa is dead. Flora is a whole different person. Melissa would never be that glamorous. She will never be the type to chase fame like that, who will dress so elegantly and elaborately, the kind that will attract atten

Melissa’s POV“I’m going to be alright,” Yolanda assures me as I hold her hand.Zane and I have gone to the hospital to check on her, and throughout the journey I was just filled with guilt. Seeing her weak and bandaged on the bed almost broke me, and her reassurance is the only thing that’s keeping me strong.“I’m sorry this happened to you,” I whisper, shaking my head. “It’s all because of me. I shouldn’t have let you go alone and I shouldn’t have—”“Mel,” Yolanda says, looking me straight in the eye. “None of this is your fault. All of this… well, it’s all Eleanor. That’s why we need to have your best designs. We need to show this bitch that we mean business.”“I don’t want you to work or worry until everything is better here,” I tell her firmly. “I’ll take care of everything—”“You do realize that this is what she wanted, right?” Yolanda suddenly asks. “She wants you to be slowed down. That’s why she had me attacked on my way to somewhere else. She wants you to stop production. Sh

  • When Our Daughter Died, My Husband Cheated   163 - No Comeback

Melissa’s POVEverything around me seems to be falling apart.“It’s going to be alright,” Yolanda keeps telling me, and it’s not that I don’t think she’s right or anything. It’s the fact that it’s really not alright.Eleanor got her hands on some of my best designs. And yes, they’re mostly drafts that she probably won’t know how to execute, but it’s still some of my best work. If she does manage to figure out how to execute them, then I would have given her my work for free. Boosting her business and dooming mine.I have to do something about it. I need to figure this out.And the only way I can do that is with Zane’s help.I really hate to come to him like this, but I have no other choice.Later that afternoon, I get into my car and drive to his office. My heart is already beating loud in my ears, and it gets even worse when I get to the elevator to the penthouse floor. I don’t know how he’ll react to seeing me, and that’s the worst part….Since all his many assistants already know w
