Chapter 1

Author: Washing Wheat
After ten lifetimes, I returned to the Celestial Realm, but I did not dare take even half a step into Empress Seraphina's palace.

I had once been an ordinary mortal. By chance, I saved Empress Seraphina after she was wounded in the war between gods and demons. I cared for her carefully for ten years, and feelings grew between us.

After Seraphina recovered, she brought my entire family to the Celestial Realm and swore she would marry me in repayment.

But that peaceful life did not last long. Just because I argued with Rowan Vane, my brother, Seraphina and my father cast me back into the mortal world to learn some manners.

Ten lifetimes of reincarnation.

In some lives, I was born disabled and died in misery. In others, I became pigs, dogs, and livestock, only to be slaughtered for meat.

In the end, I became the joke of the entire Celestial Realm.

"What are you standing there for? Get inside. If you make the Empress wait, she might add another lifetime to your punishment."

My father's urging came from behind me.

I turned and looked at his frost-cold face, and bitterness rose in my chest. Back in the mortal realm, he had been kind and gentle, always letting me cry, laugh, and act spoiled.

After we came to the Celestial Realm, everything slowly changed. Father became colder by the day, and his hunger for status only grew.

"You deserved your punishment. Who told you to run your mouth and steal credit for saving the Empress?" Father added.

In the past, I would have cried and argued.

Now, I only lowered my head in silence.

Ten lifetimes had crushed every thought of resistance out of me. They had ground down my nature until I even thought being a useless dog was fine.

At least a dog could survive.

Suddenly, the palace doors opened. A violent force dragged me into the hall and vanished in the next instant.

I crashed to the floor like a kite with its string cut. My soul, already battered by ten lifetimes of suffering, took the impact as if it were being torn apart.

Pain.

So much pain.

My cries echoed through the empty imperial hall, but no one cared whether I lived or died.

Father pretended not to see.

Seraphina sat on the throne that symbolized her place as the highest being in the Celestial Realm. Her expression was utterly indifferent, and there was not a trace of pity or compassion in her eyes.

She was like an iceberg.

It was hard to imagine that she had once called me a sun on the horizon, bright, unique, and irreplaceable.

"You are before the Empress. Why are you not kneeling?" Father snapped impatiently beside me.

Once, I had been stubborn and refused to kneel.

Now, I was obedient. I quickly dropped to my knees, knocked my forehead against the floor, and saluted.

"Greetings, Your Majesty."

The hall stayed silent for a long while before Seraphina spoke.

"Raise your head."

I answered in panic, "I do not dare."

But a force turned into wind and lifted my chin by force. Only then did I see that Seraphina's brows were tightly knitted, and my heart immediately sank.

"Do you understand your mistake this time? Have you learned the rules?" Seraphina asked coldly.

"I understand my mistake.

"I have learned the rules.

"Please show mercy, Your Majesty, and spare me."

I pressed my forehead to the floor again and again, my whole body cold as if I had been thrown into an ice cellar. I was terrified of receiving an even harsher punishment.

The immortal officials around us whispered among themselves.

"Back then, Elias was so proud. He stood in this hall and would rather die than kneel. Now look at him. He is more obedient than a dog."

"Obedient? I think he is pretending. When force did not work, he switched to softness. He only wants the Empress to pity him."

"I agree. A leopard does not change its spots. Elias is still the same rotten thing who claimed someone else's credit and tried to replace the true savior as the Empress's husband."

They spoke so easily because they had never suffered it themselves.

If they had endured ten lifetimes of reincarnation, they would also keep their tails tucked between their legs every day, too afraid to utter a single complaint.

To make delivering souls easier, Celeste and I reorganized the Underworld's ghost officials and the Ten Courts of Judgment. At first, they were unwilling to obey our commands. After all, Celeste and I were criminal slaves who had been exiled here.Unfortunately for them, Celeste was extremely powerful and beat everyone in the Underworld until they could not fight back.I even suspected that when she had still been in the Celestial Realm, her strength could already rival Seraphina's.The Underworld finally ended its previous disorder.Every day, more souls could be delivered. It seemed repetitive and dull, day after day, but in truth it was not. Every soul had its own story.Even their causes of death were strange in all kinds of ways.Of course, I also saw a familiar name: Rowan Vane.He did not need deliverance, but before he could enter his next reincarnation, he needed my approval. In his first life, he became a rat and was beaten to death with sticks while crossing a mar

I crossed mountains and ridges, braved wind and slept in the open, and after half a month, I finally found Dragon's Tear by a cliff. To pluck it, I tried nearly a hundred times before I succeeded. Dozens of those attempts nearly sent me falling off the cliff to my death. The memories gradually faded.Seraphina's eyes were full of shame. She walked slowly toward me, lowered her head, and said, "Elias, I was wrong. I believed Rowan Vane's slander."I will find a way to restore your immortal core and do everything I can to compensate you."Hearing that, I shook my head.My parents and all the immortals were shocked by my reaction.Seraphina most of all. Her brows tightened, and she asked, "You do not want to rebuild your immortal core?""Elias, this is not a joke you can make lightly. How many people in the world wish to become immortal and fail?" Father hurriedly advised."Yes!"Joining the immortal ranks is not easy. My child, you must think carefully," Mother added anxiously.

"I wanted to marry you. I wanted us to become an immortal couple."Elias was only lucky enough to save you. If I had met you first..."Before he could finish, the Severance Platform revealed the scene of me carrying Seraphina home, only for Rowan to despise her and drive me out with her.His words instantly became a joke. The immortals sneered.Seraphina's expression grew colder and colder. A chill radiated from her body as she turned immortal power into a whip and lifted Rowan into the air."Rowan!"Your mouth is full of lies. You disgust me."I will grind your bones to dust and scatter your soul!"With that, the whip brought Rowan crashing down heavily onto the ground."Ah!"Seraphina, please spare me... Spare me... Were you not going to marry me? How can you bear to destroy my soul?" Rowan screamed again and again.I, however, smiled.Three hundred years of reincarnation.Three hundred years of humiliation.Rowan Vane, it was finally your turn."I was going to marry

Mother cried as she questioned him.For the first time, Father looked at Rowan with displeasure."Rowan, do you not remember even a little of our old affection?"Seraphina glared at Rowan and gritted her teeth."When Elias returned to the Celestial Realm, he was broken and timid. I thought his nature was too weak and that he could not withstand even the smallest blow. So it was you who tortured him into that state."After saying that, she turned toward me on the Severance Platform. I was weak and barely alive, and her eyes gradually reddened. Was she finally feeling guilty?Unfortunately, it was too late.My heart was already dead. I no longer cared. I had long since lost every trace of love I once had for Seraphina.Seeing the situation turn against him, Rowan argued, "Your Majesty, I only wanted to help you vent your anger because Elias' conduct was too despicable...""Was fooling around with the handmaiden also helping me vent anger?" Seraphina cut him off coldly. The imm

"It is all your father's fault. He did not plead with the Empress. Instead, he encouraged the punishment and made you suffer ten lifetimes of reincarnation."Mother was already sobbing uncontrollably."I..."For the first time, guilt appeared on Father's once-cold face.Only Rowan clenched his fists, his eyes full of resentment. At that moment, Margery was brought over.Seraphina waved her hand, sending Margery flying dozens of steps away, and asked in a low voice, "Was it you who tampered with Elias' reincarnations and made him become animals to suffer?""Your Majesty, I was helping you vent your anger! Did you not hate Elias most? That was why I thought I should teach him a lesson," Margery cried as she wiped blood from the corner of her mouth and knelt on the ground."Insolence!"When did I need you to help me vent anger? When did I allow you to make Elias reincarnate as animals?"Seraphina was furious. Immortal power gathered in her hand and formed a whip, which she lashe

Even as a piglet, I retained my memories. I spent every day in fear and unease. Half a month later, I was sent to the chopping block. The butcher was cruel. He grabbed my hind legs and slammed me hard against the ground again and again until I could no longer cry out and blood covered the floor."Elias's first life was actually this miserable? You personally escorted each reincarnation. How could this happen?" Mother asked with red-rimmed eyes."I... I..."Father's face looked terrible. He did not know how to answer. In truth, Father had never escorted me even once. He had always let Margery, one of Empress Seraphina's handmaidens, handle it for him.Margery seemed to hate me. She cursed and beat me, even forcing me to kneel and bow my head to the ground."Perhaps something went wrong during reincarnation. Things like that have happened before," Rowan said indifferently. He knew best what had happened. He said that only to clear himself. The immortals nodded in agreement.Aft
