SERAPHINA

I had never endured disrespect in my entire life—not even when I was a child—but at the Academy, I tolerated everything. I swallowed every provocation and endured every shove just to maintain my disguise. Staying quiet, staying small and not attracting much attention…it was how I thought I could survive.

But today, something inside me snapped.

All this time, I told myself that if I just ignored the provocations, things would eventually settle down. That if I kept my head down, I wouldn’t be targeted. After hearing him say—those vile things, loud enough to stir whispers from every corner— that was the last straw.

My wolf roared.

Before Reed could even finish his disgusting sentence, my hand shot out and caught his wrist in a blur.

Crack

The sickening snap echoed like a gunshot across the cafeteria. His arrogant laugh died in his throat, replaced by a blood-curdling scream that pierced the air like a blade.

“HE BROKE REED’S WRIST!!” someone yelled in shock.

Cassius’ mouth fell

RONANShe was a walking temptation wrapped in silk and secrets. Even when I tried, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from her slender figure reflected in the glass. She moved with a kind of maddening grace, feminine in every line despite the disguise she wore.Long legs. Soft curves. A delicate waist that I knew my hands would fit around perfectly. Her skin looked like it would melt beneath my touch. Every subtle motion, whether adjusting her shirt or raising her arms, sent a pulse of need straight through me.I sucked in a breath of cold air to ground myself, but it was already too late. The beast in my pants had stirred, fully awake and demanding. Reluctantly, I tore my gaze from the glass. One more second, and my wolf might've pounced. To distract myself, I lit another cigarette and stared into the dark stretch of academy forest. That’s when Mace’s voice hit my mind through the link.“Alpha, did you find Blood Petal?”“Not yet,” I answered quietly.“I thought you went to Nightshade Alle

  • When The Moon Hides Her Crown    124. IN THE REFLECTION OF SMOKE AND SKIN

SERAPHINA“I’m back,” Ronan’s voice was low and seductive, like a man returning after months away from his lover. My heartbeat instantly quickened. So much had happened in the past few days, I’d completely forgotten Ronan was supposed to return to the dorm! Before, with Finn and the other Alphas around, I could somehow handle Ronan. Only now—now I was alone with him. Just the two of us. Behind a closed door. The thought alone was enough to rattle me. I was keenly aware of the fact that Ronan wasn’t just any man. He was the man who’d confessed his love to me, kissed me, held me, and made his intentions dangerously clear. He was walking seduction, and worse, he made my wolf act in ways I’d never expected.“What’s wrong?” Ronan stepped closer, stopping just an inch away, “Scared?” he teased, raising an eyebrow.I looked at him blankly. “Yes, see how badly I’m trembling? I’m barely holding back tears. Your dominance is killing me. Now, would you kindly move in with Asher, or anyone else,

  • When The Moon Hides Her Crown   123. STORM HADN’T PASSED

SERAPHINAThe moment I stepped into the Academy, I knew the storm hadn’t passed. So, when Alpha Jude entered the grand hall holding Grace’s hand and Alpha Gideon stood in the center of the room, emotionless and unblinking, the real storm began to stir.Grace looked like a ghost beside him. Pale. Silent. Her eyes flicked up to Alpha Jude, then back to her father, uncertain and trembling. As they stopped just a breath away from Alpha Gideon, the entire hall fell into hushed stillness. The tension clawed at every corner, everyone expecting either a deadly clash…or something far worse. But what happened next?No one could’ve predicted it.Alpha Jude took Grace’s hand and handed it to Alpha Gideon.Gasps echoed. My heart plummeted into my stomach.Grace…didn’t move. Didn’t speak. Her eyes, glassy with tears, searched Alpha Jude’s face like she was begging him to look at her, to say something, to choose her.He never did.“I’ll submit my official resignation immediately,” Alpha Jude said, v

  • When The Moon Hides Her Crown   122. THE SCENT OF US

SERAPHINA Slowly, I shifted into my white wolf. His wolf stared at me. Still. Intense. Almost reverent. My heart raced. He’d seen my wolf before, so why was he looking at me like that now?Stop staring…“Let’s go,” he gestured with a nod, letting me walk ahead. We ran together. At first just a sprint…then a full-speed dash, weaving through trees, tearing through the forest toward the Academy. The familiar scent of the Academy grounds hit me before I even saw them.Ronan slowed to a stop in the forest and shifted back into his human form in a smooth motion. But he was standing completely bare before me. I instantly turned my head. He strode up to a thick branch where a bundle of dark fabric was nestled. Tugging it free, he turned and held it out.“Change into these,” he said, casually flicking a glance toward me, as I was still in my wolf form.My ears flicked. I tilted my head. “These?”I padded forward cautiously, sniffing the air around the bundle. Familiar. Too familiar. I ginge

  • When The Moon Hides Her Crown   121. THE CHOICE TO TRUST

SERAPHINAThe flames blocked my view of the man, but left me with questions that burned deeper than the fire itself. Who was he…and why was he there? We burst from the tunnel into brittle dawn, smoke clinging to our bodies like a second skin. My lungs ached. Every breath felt like inhaling ash. The air outside was cold and raw against my sweat-damp skin. I looked around. Most of the she-wolves had already fled, running toward homes that may or may not still want them. Only the Academy Alphas remained now, bruised and breathless beneath the curling smoke behind us.That’s when I froze. Why were they still here?“What’s wrong?” Ronan’s voice came low beside me.I looked down at myself, breath catching. “I can’t go back like this,” I whispered, “Not in these clothes…plus my perfume’s gone.”I hadn’t even realized when I’d lost the bottle. Somewhere in that chaos…it was just gone."Everyone, return to the Academy immediately," Alpha Jude commanded, his voice stern as it echoed across the

  • When The Moon Hides Her Crown   120. FOUND YOU

SERAPHINA My chest heaved as I stood frozen, even though from such a distance I could not know where he was looking or what he was saying. All I knew was he beheaded Juan. Just as I was distracted for a moment by him, a blur of a black crashed into me, pushing me back just in time, shielding me from a rogue. I gasped. It was Asher. His jaws clamped around the rogue's neck and tore into it like paper. The rogue collapsed in a spray of blood. I blinked, and quickly changed my path before Asher or anyone from the Academy saw me. I ducked beneath a slashing paw, my own claws raking through a rogue’s chest. Around me, she-wolves fought with a ferocity I’d never seen before. The underground brothel was war-torn and blazing, walls groaning under the heat and blood. That’s when I heard the elevator.A low metallic groan that chilled me. I turned just in time to see the cage of steel descending again. That meant someone was coming. “No…” I whispered as the doors split open with chaos. D
