LOGINSeven days before our bonding ceremony, I overheard my mate joking with his friends. He had already moved our bonding from the snowfield altar I chose to the coastside grounds because Lyra liked the sea. But that was not the part that made them fall silent. What shocked them was that he had also prepared a Luna crown for her. One of them laughed nervously. “Changing the bonding site is one thing. Maybe Serena will forgive that. But the Luna crown? That’s different. For a woman, that crown means everything. Aren’t you afraid she’ll leave?” My mate only smiled, calm and certain. “It’s just a crown. Serena won’t care.” “She loves me. When has she ever refused me anything? She’s not going to throw a tantrum over something this small.” And for the first time, I realized he was right about one thing. I had loved him enough to forgive too much. But not anymore. So when the bonding day came and he stood at the coastside grounds calling for me again and again, I only watched the snow fall outside the window and thought: He was right. I did not make a scene. I did not demand an explanation. I just walked away without a word. He thought that meant it was nothing. He would only understand later that a woman who leaves in silence is not giving you another chance—she is leaving you with nothing but regret.

I winced when the needle pierced my arm, the doctor gave me a gentle smile.
“I forgot to warn you that it will hurt,” he said.
“It’s okay,” I said.
It was. I would do absolutely everything for my sister. Kate needed blood and I was a match, not that it was a problem.
I would search the world to find her blood type if I wasn’t.
The doctor took out the needle and carried the blood out to the lab. I gently stood up to avoid getting dizzy.
My head swayed but I held onto the chair, I had to be near my sister. I didn’t want to be away from her.
I headed back to her room , the dark spots dancing around my vision. I got to her room and I was surprised to find it locked.
We had asked for a private room but I left the door open just in case. I placed my hand on the handle when a shiver ran through me.
I furrowed my brows.
I turned the knob and pushed the door open, my eyes narrowed on the two figures on the bed, naked.
I bowed my head, “I am so sorry,” I mumbled.
Afraid that I just interrupted an important moment for them, I moved to go away but I paused when my eyes settled on a very familiar handbag.
“Kate?” I asked.
My sister sprung apart from the guy she was kissing, her face flushed with guilt.
“Bella, I didn’t mean for this to happen…” her hoarse voice faded away.
My eyes were caught on the man In front of me, his eyes refused to leave mine. I was caught in a trance.
My eyes trailed the length of him, my wolf screamed at me to claim him but after what I just saw, I was more confused than ever.
“Bella, meet my boyfriend. I was going to introduce you to him but this happened and well, haha you know the rest.”
Her words brought me out of the fog and I blinked to make sure this wasn’t a dream.
“Your boyfriend?” I asked,
She nodded excitedly and for the second time today, my heart lodged in my throat.
I should have felt happy for my sister since this was the first time she was bringing her mate home.
A few months ago, I found out my sister had indeed met her mate, she was reluctant to show me but I insisted.
I had asked why she was keeping it a secret but she told me she needed to be private because of his position in the pack.
I never met him till now.
“Uh, oh okay,” I licked my lips. My heart raced with a thrill when his eyes tracked the movement.
I almost swooned at his face when his eyes met mine again.
The man looked at me from my head to toe, his eyes never missing an inch of my body. His eyes left something in me.
He stood up and left a confused Kate on the bed, he walked closer to me and looked at me with his eyes.
He was frozen, eyes never leaving mine.
“Bella,” he began. He almost held my hand, but I withdrew. He hesitated to speak, and I could probably guess what he wanted to say to me.
My eyes automatically closed at the sound of his voice washed over me, the way he said my name had chills running down my back.
I opened my mouth to say something when the sound of hesitant footsteps stopped me,
I looked at my sister who was staring at us with confusion swimming in her eyes, my chest tightened.
She said nothing as she stared at me. My throat constricted as I watched her wrap her arms around him and snuggled into him.
Jealousy like I have never felt before flared inside me but I chased it away.
“Have you met before?” She asked, her eyes betraying everything she didn’t want to voice out.
I wanted to tell Kate that he was my destined mate but I couldn’t.
I couldn’t do that to my sister.
I shook my head and smiled as brightly as I could, “no,” I said.
She nodded but she wasn’t convinced. I nodded at her to assure her that everything was okay.
“I am going to give you guys a minute.” I said.
I closed the door behind me, my tears rolling out faster as I walked down the hallway. My hands on my lips to prevent the sobs from spilling out.
I turned the corner and sank to the floor in despair, my sobs came out harsher and I quickly dried my tears.
I closed my eyes and leaned against the hallway, scolding myself for showing signs of weakness.
A shadow fell over me and I opened my eyes, surprised to see him standing there with a grim face
I scrambled to my feet, meeting his eyes with mine. I refused to back down.
His lips thinned into a line, and my chest felt tighter.
“Bella,”
So softly but the sting it delivered felt like I was slapped. I felt like the world was slowly falling away from me but I kept my eyes on him.
I didn’t dare look away even with the excruciating pain puncturing through my chest, I felt myself swallow as I took a shaky breath, the tears that I tried so hard to curb were building once again.
“Why?” I asked.
That question was packed with a whole lot of others.
Why did you pick my sister?
Why does it feel like you are about to reject me?”
“Please understand,” he pleaded.
I felt myself go wild but I tamed it down. “I should understand? You haven’t told me why.”
He winced like I had physically hurt him,
“You are an omega and if I want to regain the position from the pack then I need someone strong like your sister by my side.”
I stumbled back in shock. The reason was more hurtful than the betrayal.
I looked at him, hoping that my thoughts reflected in my eyes.
He was abandoning me for power?
I chuckled lowly, once again my sister had one.
Yes, she is beautiful and confident but she had stolen the one thing I wanted, my mate.
I knew she would be trouble. The day my father remarried and I was introduced to her, the first thing she did was take my toy and declare it as mine.
Now, the same thing was happening.
I am just an omega and because of that, my mate thought it was wise to discard me. I scoffed.
“I am sorry,” he said.
I nodded. I wouldn’t want to be with anyone so spineless and selfish like this.
“I Alpha Leo reject you, Bella as my mate.
I woke up to the incessant beeping beside me. I opened my eyes to see my sister weeping while my Stepmother consoled her.
I groaned when I turned to stretch, “what’s going on?” I asked.
My voice was raspy because I had been crying too much. My eyes darted to the glass of water beside my bed and my sister grabbed it.
“Here,” Kate said,
I drank the water before setting the glass back in her hands, “would someone answer me?”
Kate shook her head, “we don’t know. We saw you passed out in the hallway.”
My jaw dropped, the jerk didn’t even look to see if I was breathing. I looked around and he was not in the room.
“Bella, you scared me child.” My Stepmothersaid,
My chest was still hurting from the rejection and I wanted it to stop, my eyes automatically searched for him in the room.
I heaved a sigh of relief when I realized he wasn’t there. I didn’t want to see him, not after what he did.
“Bella, are you okay?” Kate asked softly.
My head moved before I could stop it, I nodded. Her eyes narrowed like she didn’t believe me but I gave her a fake smile.
“I am okay, I promise. It must be because of the blood. I am weak from it.” I assured her.
She stepped back a little but still didn’t look convinced, I wanted to reassure her but I was still hurt from what happened.
How on earth is Kate his mate?
Kate seemed to get the drift because her eyes lit up. “Oh he said he had some emergency but he asked that you get well.”
“Don’t worry, you will get a chance to properly meet him,” Kate said.
“He would be coming back,” she squealed,
“Stop that,” our Stepmother Chided,
Kate looked ashamed but she gave me an apologetic glance and I nodded.
I listened to them fuss over me for a while till the doctor cleared me to go. I was weak because my wolf’s heart had been broken.
The doctor sent us on our way. My sister held me in her arms as we walked slowly towards the door.
My heart constricted as I watched them kiss till I wanted to puke. My wolf was hurt at their public display of affectionBut I wasn't hurt. Because I won't feel sorry for someone who abandoned me.
“Bella, come on.” Kate called out.
I willed my legs to move till I found myself standing in front of them, I stared pointedly at my sister even when her eyes were on him.
Lyra came to the room carrying a basket of fruit, but she stood in the doorway and would not step inside.Cassian was lying in bed. When he saw her, something still brightened in his face.“Lyra… you came.”Lyra twisted the strap of her bag, looking wronged.“Cassian, I… I don’t really know how to take care of people.”He forced a smile.“It’s all right. You don’t have to take care of me. Just stay and talk for a while.”Lyra lowered her head and spoke in a small voice.“But… my boyfriend wouldn’t like it.”Cassian froze.“Boyfriend?”“Since when?”She blinked, sweetness slipping into her tone.“We’ve been together for a week.”“He doesn’t like me getting too close to other men.”Something inside him dropped all at once.Only then did he realize he could no longer even explain to himself what Lyra had been to him all these years.Love?Or just the habit of being needed by her?And Serena? She had always been so strong that he had simply assumed she did not need him.Lyra sighed by the
I looked at him without warmth.“Cassian, there are some mistakes you cannot undo by kneeling.”I took Kane’s hand and turned to leave, but Lady Blackthorn stepped in front of me.“Serena, Cassian has been a fool. But you were together for so many years… he truly did love you.”I met her eyes calmly.“My lady, do you believe that if Lyra called him right now, he still wouldn’t leave at once?”She froze and looked back at him.Cassian opened his mouth, but no words came out.I shook my head.“That isn’t love.”Lady Blackthorn finally stepped aside. She lowered her head and stopped trying to keep me there.Kane and I completed the registration without trouble.Cassian stayed kneeling outside the High Council Hall.“Serena…”I did not look back. I got into the car with Kane and left. The next day, Cassian posted an update. One last trip to the snowfield. Let this be goodbye. He even tagged me.I did not respond.Derek called him almost at once.“Are you out of your mind? There’s a blizzar
Cassian stood there for a long moment. Then anger flashed across his face.“If you were unhappy, why didn’t you say so sooner?”“If you never said anything, how was I supposed to know you felt hurt?”I looked at him and let out a cold laugh.“I never said anything?”“I never made a fuss?”“Wasn’t it you who kept calling me childish?”That left him speechless.I held his gaze and asked softly, “Do you even remember why I insisted on bonding at the snowfield?”He hesitated, then answered carelessly, “Because the view is beautiful, isn’t it? But the sea is more romantic.”I laughed. The last warmth I had left for him disappeared completely.“So you really don’t know.”“You never respected my choice. Not once.”“And now, there’s nothing left for you to regret.”“You should go. This should have ended a long time ago.”Cassian still would not move, but Lyra could no longer hold on.She was shivering now, her voice small. “Cassian… I don’t feel well.”Even as he walked down the mountain, he k
That was when I learned what it felt like to be remembered in silence. And that was when I remembered what came after. One day, after another fight with Cassian, I had sat alone in the treatment room for a long time, my emotions spiraling out of control. It was dim all around me. My voice shook when I finally spoke.“Am I never going to see sunrise over the snow again?”Kane was changing the dressing on my injury. He did not look up when he answered.“You will.”“And the first time you ever saw sunrise there wasn’t with Cassian.”“It was in your second year. You slipped out by yourself to climb the mountain and nearly got lost.”I stared at him.“How do you know that?”For the first time, the tips of his ears turned a little red.“Because I was there too.”So that day I had thought I was alone, and all along he had been following at a distance, close enough to make sure I was safe, far enough not to disturb me.Only later did I understand how rare it was to be cared for like that.I ha
