Chapter 2

작가: Rosemary
The comments kept coming.

“They look too good together.”

“You can tell they grew up together.”

“@Cassian Careful. Serena might see this.”

Cassian actually replied:

“She won’t care. If she’s going to make a scene over something this minor, then maybe this bond shouldn’t happen at all.”

I stared at that line for a long time, then quietly hit like and locked my screen.

He was already used to me giving way.

Used to me accepting the change of location, accepting the new ceremony design, accepting him saying, “Lyra was only making a suggestion. Stop being so selfish.”

But this time, I didn’t want to give in.

The next day, I went to the Bonding Hall alone to confirm the arrangements.

The snowfield altar I had originally reserved was gone. In its place was a completely new plan from the coastside ritual grounds.

I turned the pages one by one, growing quieter with each one.

The main altar had been changed from silver-white to deep sea blue. The moon lamps I had chosen, carved from frostbone crystal, had been replaced with shell lanterns. Even the wolf-tail crest I had designed by hand had been changed into a tide pattern.

The woman handling the paperwork even smiled as she spoke.

“Alpha Cassian specifically told us the ceremony should reflect everyone’s preferences and not feel too rigid. The coast is more open, more suited to younger people.”

I looked at the plan and almost laughed.

So everything I had spent so long preparing was, to him, nothing more than rigidity.

By the time I left the Bonding Hall, night had already fallen.

I had always been afraid of the dark.

Before, whenever the road home felt too long and too empty, I would instinctively message Cassian.

This time, I only stood there for a while before starting home alone.

Halfway back, Cassian called.

“Serena, where are you?”

I hesitated.

“On my way home.”

“It’s late. Why are you out by yourself?”

Before I could answer, I heard Lyra’s voice from his end, small and trembling.

“Cassian, the power’s out here. I’m scared…”

He did not hesitate.

“Don’t be afraid. I’m coming now.”

Only after saying that did he seem to remember I was still on the line.

“Serena, just go home on your own. Lyra needs me more right now.”

Then he hung up.

The night wind cut straight through me.

I was afraid of the dark too.

And yet, in his eyes, I never seemed to need protecting.

The next day, Cassian came to pick me up as if nothing had happened.

The silence inside the car was suffocating.

I leaned back, closed my eyes, and said nothing.

His fingers tapped against the steering wheel, as if he were waiting for me to speak first.

After a while, he finally brought it up in an offhand tone.

“I had the coastside ceremony design revised again. When you see it, try not to cling so hard to your original ideas. A bonding ceremony should reflect more than one person’s taste.”

I opened my eyes slowly.

“More than one person’s taste?”

He cleared his throat.

“Lyra has a good eye. She looked over the drawings yesterday. She said your original design felt too cold. Too impersonal.”

I looked at him for a long moment, then smiled faintly.

“So my bonding ceremony is going to be arranged around what she likes?”

His brows drew together.

“Can you not put it like that? She was only trying to help. Why are you so sensitive lately?”

I lowered my gaze and said nothing more.

So it wasn’t only the location. Every part of the ceremony I had prepared could be changed whenever he wanted.

That day, we were on our way to the workshop to choose a new vow ring.

The original pair had been designed by me. I had drawn the pattern myself, with moon marks and wolf-claw lines for the smith to follow.

But a few days ago, Cassian suddenly said the design looked dated and wanted something more modern.

Now I understood why.

He walked into the workshop with me, but he was distracted from the start, glancing down at his phone again and again.

I pretended not to notice and asked the attendant to bring out the new ring designs.

I had just lowered my head when a familiar laugh sounded behind me.

“Cassian? You’re here too?”

I looked up.

Of course it was Lyra.

Lyra came to the room carrying a basket of fruit, but she stood in the doorway and would not step inside.Cassian was lying in bed. When he saw her, something still brightened in his face.“Lyra… you came.”Lyra twisted the strap of her bag, looking wronged.“Cassian, I… I don’t really know how to take care of people.”He forced a smile.“It’s all right. You don’t have to take care of me. Just stay and talk for a while.”Lyra lowered her head and spoke in a small voice.“But… my boyfriend wouldn’t like it.”Cassian froze.“Boyfriend?”“Since when?”She blinked, sweetness slipping into her tone.“We’ve been together for a week.”“He doesn’t like me getting too close to other men.”Something inside him dropped all at once.Only then did he realize he could no longer even explain to himself what Lyra had been to him all these years.Love?Or just the habit of being needed by her?And Serena? She had always been so strong that he had simply assumed she did not need him.Lyra sighed by the

I looked at him without warmth.“Cassian, there are some mistakes you cannot undo by kneeling.”I took Kane’s hand and turned to leave, but Lady Blackthorn stepped in front of me.“Serena, Cassian has been a fool. But you were together for so many years… he truly did love you.”I met her eyes calmly.“My lady, do you believe that if Lyra called him right now, he still wouldn’t leave at once?”She froze and looked back at him.Cassian opened his mouth, but no words came out.I shook my head.“That isn’t love.”Lady Blackthorn finally stepped aside. She lowered her head and stopped trying to keep me there.Kane and I completed the registration without trouble.Cassian stayed kneeling outside the High Council Hall.“Serena…”I did not look back. I got into the car with Kane and left. The next day, Cassian posted an update. One last trip to the snowfield. Let this be goodbye. He even tagged me.I did not respond.Derek called him almost at once.“Are you out of your mind? There’s a blizzar

Cassian stood there for a long moment. Then anger flashed across his face.“If you were unhappy, why didn’t you say so sooner?”“If you never said anything, how was I supposed to know you felt hurt?”I looked at him and let out a cold laugh.“I never said anything?”“I never made a fuss?”“Wasn’t it you who kept calling me childish?”That left him speechless.I held his gaze and asked softly, “Do you even remember why I insisted on bonding at the snowfield?”He hesitated, then answered carelessly, “Because the view is beautiful, isn’t it? But the sea is more romantic.”I laughed. The last warmth I had left for him disappeared completely.“So you really don’t know.”“You never respected my choice. Not once.”“And now, there’s nothing left for you to regret.”“You should go. This should have ended a long time ago.”Cassian still would not move, but Lyra could no longer hold on.She was shivering now, her voice small. “Cassian… I don’t feel well.”Even as he walked down the mountain, he k

That was when I learned what it felt like to be remembered in silence. And that was when I remembered what came after. One day, after another fight with Cassian, I had sat alone in the treatment room for a long time, my emotions spiraling out of control. It was dim all around me. My voice shook when I finally spoke.“Am I never going to see sunrise over the snow again?”Kane was changing the dressing on my injury. He did not look up when he answered.“You will.”“And the first time you ever saw sunrise there wasn’t with Cassian.”“It was in your second year. You slipped out by yourself to climb the mountain and nearly got lost.”I stared at him.“How do you know that?”For the first time, the tips of his ears turned a little red.“Because I was there too.”So that day I had thought I was alone, and all along he had been following at a distance, close enough to make sure I was safe, far enough not to disturb me.Only later did I understand how rare it was to be cared for like that.I ha

I watched the snow drift past the window and said softly, “I’ve been here all along.”The moon-vow hymn had already begun at the snowfield altar. In a few minutes, I would step forward.Cassian fell silent on the other end. “Where are you? I don’t see you anywhere.”I held up my phone and said, “Listen.”The wind carried the vow hymn through the line, faint but clear. His voice tightened at once. “You’re at the snowfield?”“You’ve lost your mind. I changed the location.”I laughed softly. “I know.”That only made him more worked up. “You knew and you still went? Serena, this is our bonding ceremony. How could you make a decision like that without even talking to me?”I looked at the man waiting a short distance away and answered in the same quiet tone. “Did you discuss it with me when you changed it?”Cassian fell silent for a second, then frowned.“The coastside ritual grounds are more romantic. I was trying to surprise you. Why can’t you understand that?”“Whether I understand it or

  • When the Future Luna Walked Away   Chapter 3

Lyra stood in the doorway in a pale dress, looking as though she had only happened to be passing by. The moment she saw Cassian, her eyes lit up.“What a surprise. I thought you’d be busy today.”Her gaze dropped to the rings on the table, and she lifted a hand to her mouth with a smile.“You’re picking out vow rings? Did I walk in at a bad time?”I frowned but said nothing.Cassian was already on his feet, walking toward her.“What are you doing here?”Lyra smiled, almost shy. “I was just passing by. I didn’t expect to run into you.” Then she turned to me. “Sorry, Serena. Am I interrupting?”She said that, but she had already come over to stand beside us.The attendant set out another tray of rings. Lyra looked down and brightened at once.“This one with the tide pattern is beautiful. It would be perfect for a coastside bonding ceremony.”My fingers went still.Cassian followed her gaze and nodded. “It is nice.”I kept my voice even. “I don’t like it.”Lyra froze, then quickly looked
