Chapter 2

Author: Wealthy Abalone
The concert's atmosphere grew more intense by the minute, with everyone's focus locked on the stage.

It seemed like I was invisible, blending into the shadows of the concert. The dim lights gave me a false sense of bravery.

I moved to the beat of the music, letting the rhythm guide my steps.

She moved with a rhythm that made the air between us tremble, every motion sent a heat through me that I could not contain.

I reached for her waist and pulled her close, the sudden rush of contact hit me like fire, every cell in me coming alive.

The concert was more than worth it. The crowd was wild, the energy infectious, and everywhere I looked, faces were glowing in the light: young, reckless, alive. Heat surged through me, the air itself seemed to pull us together until only breath and heartbeat separated us. Through the thin fabric, I felt a spreading warmth, something alive and uncontrollable.

The thought of so many people sharing that experience made me smile, a sweet feeling spreading through me.

I adjusted my clothes, feeling comfortable in the space around me.

She suddenly went weak in my arms, her legs trembling. I caught her by the waist before she fell.

She whispered for me to stop, her voice trembling somewhere between protest and confusion. The air grew thick with everything neither of us knew how to say.

Just then, a flash went off, and the camera caught us. Our faces appeared on the giant screen. That's when I finally saw her clearly: she was Marilyn Monroe–level beautiful, with soft, fair skin and cheeks flushed a delicate red.

She had not noticed the big screen, her eyes were half-closed, lost in the moment. When the camera caught us, I quickly straightened up, pretending nothing had happened. She looked up, saw herself on the screen, and her face flushed scarlet before she lowered her head.

The celebrity on stage said, "This couple looks pretty close! Camera crew, see if there are any other couples around."

At his command, the camera shifted to another pair.

Only then did I breathe a sigh of relief. I slipped my arms around the girl's waist from behind, feeling the softness of her body.

Her emotions were already stirred, her voice coming out in quick, uneven breaths.

"You're really bold," she said softly. "I don't even know you, but you…"

I gave her a teasing smile.

"But what?"

She lowered her head, her cheeks turning red. "I've never done anything like this in a place like this before," she murmured. "It just feels…too much."

She never dated anyone before, so it was no wonder she seemed so flustered.

The thought surprised me, and for some reason, it made my heart race.

Leaning close, I whispered softly, "You're so beautiful. How come you've never had a boyfriend?"

She blushed, her shoulders trembling slightly as she laughed in embarrassment.

"I just started college," she said. "My parents are really strict… They won't let me date."

Her honesty made the air between us heavier, filled with something neither of us dared to name.

I could feel her hesitation, but also the quiet curiosity behind it, the feeling of someone experiencing closeness for the first time.

However, I never saw it coming. Three days later, Leon showed up at my doorstep.I was lounging on the couch, half-watching some show on TV, when the doorbell buzzed. Figuring it was my lunch order, I shuffled to the door. However, it was not a delivery guy. It was Leon, looking like he had seen a ghost, gripping something tight in his hand, his eyes blazing with a fire that could have melted steel."Out with it, Jeff. What's the deal with you and Winter?"He did not bother stepping inside. Instead, he chucked what was in his hand at me: a phone, its screen glowing with a video from the concert. There it was, playing for all to see: the big-screen evidence of me and Winter's secret. My mind went blank, my heart thumping in my ears.I almost dropped the phone. "Leon, you've got it all wrong, let me explain–""All wrong?" Leon's voice cracked like thunder, "Then set me straight! I thought you were my friend, but you? You hooked up with my sister-in-law! "Chill out, man, it's my wedding day! Let's celebrate! Later, we're drinking until we can't stand it!" I managed a weak smile, but it felt like I was carrying a boulder. For the next few hours, I was a bundle of nerves. I kept a watchful eye on Winter, dreading she might slip up.Winter was on high alert, careful not to let Leon catch a whiff of the tension. She played the part of the dutiful sister, never straying far from Juliet's side. Our eyes met there and then, but she would dart her gaze away as if she was dodging bullets. As the wedding wound down, Leon and I were at the door, bidding farewell to the sea of guests. That was when Winter sidled up to Juliet. "Hey, I'm gonna head out, okay? I'll swing by tomorrow."Juliet tugged at her hand, a frown knitting her brows. "You're not sticking around? C'mon, let Jeffrey drop you off.""No, really, I'm good. A cab will do." Winter's eyes flitted over to Leon and me as she said her goodbyes, "Leon, Jeffrey, I'm off."Leon opened

"She's here!" Leon nudged me, and I reluctantly followed his gaze.Winter was in a beige dress, a world away from the sultry number she wore last week. However, as she entered the hall, her eyes flicked to me, mirroring the shock and panic I felt.I quickly looked down, pretending to be fascinated by the ice in my glass, while my ears picked up every word she said to Juliet, each one stabbing at my already jittery heart."Jeff, snap out of it," Leon chided, giving me a pat on the back. "Let's go say hi to Winter. Don't just stand there like you're part of the furniture."My legs turned to jelly, and I was desperate for an excuse to hit the restroom, but Leon had already grabbed my arm and was pulling me along. Winter caught sight of us heading her way and ducked behind Juliet, who did not seem to notice. She beamed and said, "Winter, meet Jeffrey, Leon's best bud. We're all one big happy family now, so you guys should get to know each other."Winter managed a tight-lipped smile a
