When the Pain Runs Deep, I Let Go

"Are you sure she won't be able to get out of the shock room?"

Xandra Sullivan looked up at me from where I stood hidden in the shadows, a sly smile curling across her lips. "What if she sees us like this?"

"If you hadn't spent every day flaunting yourself in front of me and driving me crazy, do you think I would've locked her in there?"

Leonard Jasper pressed harder, pushing his fingers deeper into Xandra's mouth.

"Don't make a sound. If she hears you, you'll be sorry."

Xandra shot me a smug look. "And what if she does? I'm Mrs. Jasper, after all. She's nothing but my maid. I can do whatever I—"

Before she could finish, Leonard silenced her with a kiss.

"Stay away from her. I don't trust leaving her alone out here in the country. Otherwise, who do you think you are to have her wait on you?"

I covered my mouth and swallowed my sobs. The pain from the electric burns on my body was nothing compared to the ache in my heart.

When Xandra saw me turn away, she stopped holding back and moaned even louder.

I hurried back to my room in a panic. The moment I shut the door behind me, I broke down sobbing.

I had been with Leonard for three years, and I never thought he would lie to me about being bankrupt.

I certainly never imagined he was already married.

I ran my fingers over the burns covering my body, and another wave of pain tore through my heart.

The sounds outside continued.

Still sobbing, I sent a message to Sebastian Sinclair. "Sebastian, does what you promised me before still hold?"

There was a brief silence on the other end before he answered. "I'll take you out of the country in three days."

I tilted my head back and let the tears fall. "Okay. I'll wait for you."

"Who are you waiting for?"

Leonard pushed open the door. When he saw me crying, he looked flustered and quickly pulled me into his arms.

"Willy, how did you get out so early? Did you come straight back to your room?"

He looked at me uneasily and asked cautiously, "Were you on the phone this whole time? Who were you waiting for?"

My heart went cold. I forced a bitter smile and pushed him away.

"I'm waiting for the doctor to look at my injuries," I said calmly.

It was only then that he noticed the burns on my body. His pupils contracted. "How did this happen? I'll go get the doctor!"

"Leonard, aren't you the butler? You're supposed to be taking care of Xandra. How could you possibly call a doctor for me?" I said mockingly.

I clutched my aching chest and looked straight into his eyes, a bitter smile on my lips.

"Or were you lying to me? You're actually the owner of this house?"
