Chapter 2

Author: Stars
Dad had said he would take both of us earlier, but in the end, he left me home alone.

Back when he'd bought the car, he'd taken everyone in the family into consideration. However, he seemed to have selectively ignored the fact that he also had an older daughter.

I was utterly disappointed in my family.

I said flatly, "No need. There's nothing I want."

Jada's sweet, coquettish voice came from Mom's end. "Mom, you promised you'd buy me a cake. I want the biggest one."

"Okay, no problem. We'll get the biggest one," she agreed readily.

Mom ended our mind-link without hesitation. She didn't even bother checking if I needed anything else.

I tossed my phone onto the bed and silently took off the floral dress I was wearing.

They didn't come home even though it was already very late. Just then, my phone suddenly chimed as a notification popped up.

Jada had posted several photos on X. In the photos, she wore a gorgeous evening gown and sat amid a mountain of gifts, holding an enormous cake. Her face glowed with happiness.

The caption read, "The day the results came out, my whole family gave me a huge surprise."

Of course, that "family" didn't include me.

Meanwhile, my parents were also updating their X accounts with Jada's activities.

They had gone to an amusement park and taken the Ferris wheel, taking a family photo together at the very top. The whole time they were out, it had never occurred to them that they had another daughter.

I scrolled through my parents' X accounts. They were filled entirely with photos of Jada, with Jerome occasionally making an appearance. Judging solely by their posts, no one would ever have known that they had another daughter.

I was already used to being ignored and neglected.

When I reached their earliest post, my hand paused. It was from when I had just been born and wasn't even two years old yet. Dad was holding me high above his head, and Mom was gazing at me affectionately from beside him. Jerome was smiling at the camera.

That had been the happiest time of my life. It had also been the time when they loved me most.

But ever since Jada was born, all of that had vanished like it was all just a dream.

Jada was born with translucent skin and an irresistibly adorable face.

Everyone who saw her couldn't help but exclaim, "Jada looks just like a little princess."

And that was precisely why my parents, who had always cared deeply about appearances, took Jada everywhere with them. As for me, the ordinary-looking daughter, they felt that I wasn't someone they could proudly show off.

From then on, I became invisible to my own family.

They didn't come home all night, and Viola didn't make me anything to eat either. I could only fill my stomach with the cold, dry bread from the refrigerator.

Early the next morning, I was awakened by a knock on the door.

I opened it to find Percy standing outside, carrying a pretty box in his hand. It was from Jada's favorite bakery.

Under the sunlight, his smile was dazzling. The first thing he did was ask where Jada was.

"Where's Jada? I heard she ranked first in the trials and was chosen as the Alpha King's chief advisor. I came to congratulate her," Percy said.

I replied, "They went out to pick gifts."

Out of politeness, I invited him inside.

Percy froze for a moment before smiling and saying, "I see. We don't know when she'll be back. The cake won't taste good if it sits too long. How about you eat it for Jada?"

There was a hint of displeasure in his voice, as though I were somehow taking advantage of Jada.

When I opened the box, an exquisite berry cake appeared before my eyes.

My expression darkened.

I raised my head and looked coldly at Percy. "You know perfectly well that I'm allergic to berries."

Percy and I had grown up together as childhood friends. Once, when we were playing in the Moonlight Forest, I accidentally ate some berries. Right away, I found it difficult to breathe, and it nearly sent me into shock.

The young Percy had carried me on his back through the forest and taken me to the hospital.

Ever since then, he had always been extremely careful about what I ate. Every time, he would repeatedly check the ingredient list several times to be absolutely sure there was nothing that would trigger my allergy before he felt comfortable giving it to me.

But now, he had completely forgotten about it.

All he could see was the innocent, carefree, and spoiled Jada who loved to act cute.

Three years ago, Percy came to my house for the first time and saw Jada for the first time. She had been wearing a pink dress and swinging on a swing in the garden.

After taking just one glance, his eyes seemed glued to her, and he was unable to look away.

As he stared at her in a daze, he blurted out, "No wonder you're always saying your brother plays favorites. If I had a little sister like that, I'd want to give her all my love too."

From then on, Percy transferred all the kindness and affection he had once shown me to Jada. Gradually, he forgot about me. It was to the point that he couldn't even remember my berry allergy anymore.

When Percy heard what I said, he froze for a moment before realization dawned on his face. "Sorry, I forgot. You'd better not eat this cake, then. I'll buy a fresh one when Jada comes back."

Percy left without another word.

He didn't even ask how I had done on the trials. It was as though everyone had assumed from the very beginning that I could never outperform Jada.

I was alone in the house again.

I stared at the invitation the Alpha King had sent to my phone for a while.

Then, I replied, "Okay. I'll be there."

One day while I was at work, my assistant, Lyla Hunter, hurried into my office. "Ms. Spencer, someone is causing trouble at the entrance to the Werewolf Administration."I didn't think much of it at first. After all, plenty of people came to cause trouble. I merely replied dismissively, "Just have the guards throw them out."Lyla looked troubled as she added, "They're here to see you."As she spoke, she pulled up the surveillance footage for me.In the footage, Mom was sitting on the ground, holding an old photograph of me from when I was two or three years old. She was crying and complaining outside the entrance. She sobbed, "Janice, although I favored Jada, I still provided you with food and clothing all these years. Even if I deserve no credit, surely I deserve some acknowledgment for all the effort I put in. You can't just heartlessly cut ties with your family over a few pieces of old clothes."Dad looked several years older, and his voice was slightly hoarse. "Jerome was f

The helicopter landed on the lawn in front of the Werewolf Administration. The Alpha King personally came to welcome me.He extended his hand and greeted me. "I didn't expect the person who ranked first in this year's werewolf trials to be so young."I smiled and shook his hand. "Thank you very much for acknowledging my abilities. I will assist you in making the werewolf race stronger and more powerful."That very day, I officially became the Alpha King's chief advisor.Although the documents I had to deal with every day piled up like mountains, my days were incredibly fulfilling. Occasionally, the Alpha King would give me some time off, and I would travel to the surrounding cities.I threw away my SIM card and asked the Alpha King for a potion that would sever the connection between my family and me.From then on, my life belonged to me alone. When I received my first month's salary, I even thought I had misread the amount. The long string of numbers was greater than my entire

Everyone chimed in one after another. Their criticism overwhelmed Jada. Her eyes darted around as she repeatedly backed away. The moment she saw me, she could no longer suppress the hatred in her eyes. She rushed forward and demanded, "Why didn't you tell me that you were the one who ranked first? You just wanted to watch me humiliate myself, didn't you? How can you be so evil? I'm your dearest little sister, yet you deliberately set me up to ruin my reputation!"Jada glared at me so fiercely that it seemed as though she wanted to tear me apart and devour me alive.I sneered. "Sister? Be real, Jada. Was there ever a single moment when you truly treated me like your older sister? At home, I was your accessory, your foil, a servant you could summon and dismiss whenever you pleased."You should have considered the consequences before you did this. Everything that's happening to you now is entirely your own doing!""You!" The veins on Jada's forehead bulged as she raised her hand to

Under everyone's pressuring, Jada's expression grew increasingly troubled. She stammered, "I... I accidentally dropped my phone and broke it just now, so I can't check my results."I sneered. "You can't? Or you don't want to? You know the answer better than anyone. You're afraid that once your pathetic score is made public, you'll be too ashamed to show your face."My words hit a sore spot. Jada bit her lip hard, and it took her a long time to finally squeeze out a response. "W-Who said that? When I checked my results, I saw that I ranked first. What do I have to be afraid of?" Although that was what she said, there wasn't the slightest hint of confidence in her voice.I pressed, "Then show us your results. Words alone prove nothing. No one is going to believe you without evidence.""Enough!" Dad slammed his hand on the table and glared at me furiously. "How can you talk to Jada like that? She said her phone is broken, and she can't check her results. Why do you keep cornerin

The moment the guard mentioned my name, everyone present was stunned."Janice? Isn't she Jada's older sister? Could it be that the person who was chosen as the chief advisor was Janice, and not Jada?""How is that possible? I'm in the same class as Janice. Her grades are usually below average. There's no way she could have ranked first.""But Jada's grades aren't usually that good either. What exactly is going on?"The murmurs of discussion surged through the crowd like a tidal wave.Mom grabbed the guard's sleeve anxiously and forced a smile. "This is impossible. There must be some mistake. My younger daughter, Jada, was clearly the one who ranked first in the trials. Janice is my older daughter. Her grades have always been terrible. How could she be the person you're looking for?"The guard's expression instantly darkened. He held the file up in front of my parents and stressed, "The person we're looking for is indeed Janice. She ranked first among the entire werewolf race in

A thunderous roar suddenly came from the sky. Drawn outside by the deafening noise, everyone looked up.Three helicopters slowly descended. Someone seemed to notice something and pointed at the royal insignia on the helicopters, exclusive to the Alpha King. They shouted, "Look! Those are the Alpha King's helicopters. They must be here to pick up Jada."Others exclaimed, "Oh my goodness, I've never seen such a grand display before."Another responded, "Well, I expected nothing less. Jada ranked first in the werewolf trials. She's the chief advisor personally chosen by the Alpha King. Naturally, she deserves a grand reception."Everyone talked excitedly among themselves, firmly convinced that Jada had ranked first in the pack's trials. Even Jada hadn't expected the Alpha King to actually send helicopters to pick her up. A trace of bewilderment flashed across her face.Dozens of reporters from various media outlets swarmed over, raising their cameras and thrusting microphones toward
