In the living room, everyone crowded around my younger sister, Jada Spencer, as if she were the center of the universe.

Mom was incredibly proud. "My precious daughter has really made something of herself. Now that you've become the Alpha King's chief advisor, you'll have endless wealth and glory to enjoy."

Dad, who was usually stern, was all smiles today.

He grabbed Jada's hand and said excitedly, "That's my daughter. You outdid yourself and ranked first in the pack. You've really brought honor to our family."

At that moment, my brother, Jerome Spencer, suddenly asked, "The Alpha King personally calls whoever places first in the werewolf trials to invite them to join the Werewolf Administration. Why haven't you gotten a call yet?"

A trace of unease flashed across Jada's face.

Her eyes darted around as she said, "The Alpha King has countless matters to deal with every day. Something must have delayed him. I'll probably get his call tonight."

Everyone in the family nodded, completely convinced by Jada's explanation.

Only I stood in the corner of the living room, secretly laughing to myself. There was no way Jada would receive a call from the Alpha King, because the one who truly ranked first was me, Janice Spencer, the daughter they had ignored.

I didn't know how much time had passed before Mom finally noticed me standing off to the side. The moment she saw me, the warmth and affection in her eyes instantly turned icy.

She waved impatiently at me. "The whole family is happy for Jada. Why the long face? Are you jealous because Jada scored better than you? It doesn't matter even if you failed. Your dad and I won't hold it against you.

"When the time comes, you can find some work near Jada's workplace. That way, you can help us take care of her."

The invitation from the Alpha King was still glowing on my phone screen. I turned off the screen and placed my phone face down on the coffee table.

"Sure. Got it," I said.

Jada nestled in Mom's arms and said coquettishly, "I heard Percy Jones also works at the Werewolf Administration. I want him to take care of me."

Jerome stroked her hair affectionately, his voice filled with pride. "You're the Alpha King's chief advisor. That's a very high-ranking position in the Werewolf Administration. When the time comes, who knows which one of you will be taking care of the other?"

The whole family laughed happily together, completely forgetting about me. No one even asked how I had done on the trials. It was as if it were only natural that I couldn't compare to Jada, and that I deserved to be trampled beneath her feet.

After they finished joking around, Dad clapped his hands. "Enough about that. To celebrate Jada taking first place with such an outstanding score, I've decided to throw her a banquet. This afternoon, I'll take you sisters out to pick evening gowns for the party.

"Go to your rooms and get ready. We'll leave right away."

My heart gave an almost imperceptible jolt.

I couldn't even remember the last time I had gotten new clothes. Whenever they went shopping, they only took Jada with them. Meanwhile, I could only wear the old clothes she had gotten tired of and thrown away.

Filled with anticipation, I returned to my room and pulled out a white floral dress. It was the first piece of clothing I had ever bought with the money I earned from a part-time job. I treasured it too much to wear it and had kept it tucked away in my closet. Today, it finally saw the light of day again.

I stood in front of the mirror in my floral dress, looking at myself over and over again before taking a deep breath.

Perhaps, deep down, they did care about me at least a little.

But when I opened the door, the living room was completely empty. Even their shoes by the front door were gone.

I stood frozen in place for a moment.

Then, I cautiously checked with the housekeeper, Viola Zahn, who was wiping down the table. "Viola, where are my parents, Jerome, and my sister?"

Viola didn't even look up. "They took Ms. Jada out to buy clothes."

I felt as though a bucket of ice-cold water had been poured over my head. My entire body trembled uncontrollably.

Tremblingly, I tried to reach Mom via mind-link.

It took a long time before I finally heard her voice. "What is it, Janice?"

"You already left?" I tried my best to make my voice sound normal.

Mom merely replied casually, "Well, the car only seats four people. We figured you could just tell us what you want, and we'll get an outfit for you."

One day while I was at work, my assistant, Lyla Hunter, hurried into my office. "Ms. Spencer, someone is causing trouble at the entrance to the Werewolf Administration."I didn't think much of it at first. After all, plenty of people came to cause trouble. I merely replied dismissively, "Just have the guards throw them out."Lyla looked troubled as she added, "They're here to see you."As she spoke, she pulled up the surveillance footage for me.In the footage, Mom was sitting on the ground, holding an old photograph of me from when I was two or three years old. She was crying and complaining outside the entrance. She sobbed, "Janice, although I favored Jada, I still provided you with food and clothing all these years. Even if I deserve no credit, surely I deserve some acknowledgment for all the effort I put in. You can't just heartlessly cut ties with your family over a few pieces of old clothes."Dad looked several years older, and his voice was slightly hoarse. "Jerome was f

The helicopter landed on the lawn in front of the Werewolf Administration. The Alpha King personally came to welcome me.He extended his hand and greeted me. "I didn't expect the person who ranked first in this year's werewolf trials to be so young."I smiled and shook his hand. "Thank you very much for acknowledging my abilities. I will assist you in making the werewolf race stronger and more powerful."That very day, I officially became the Alpha King's chief advisor.Although the documents I had to deal with every day piled up like mountains, my days were incredibly fulfilling. Occasionally, the Alpha King would give me some time off, and I would travel to the surrounding cities.I threw away my SIM card and asked the Alpha King for a potion that would sever the connection between my family and me.From then on, my life belonged to me alone. When I received my first month's salary, I even thought I had misread the amount. The long string of numbers was greater than my entire

Everyone chimed in one after another. Their criticism overwhelmed Jada. Her eyes darted around as she repeatedly backed away. The moment she saw me, she could no longer suppress the hatred in her eyes. She rushed forward and demanded, "Why didn't you tell me that you were the one who ranked first? You just wanted to watch me humiliate myself, didn't you? How can you be so evil? I'm your dearest little sister, yet you deliberately set me up to ruin my reputation!"Jada glared at me so fiercely that it seemed as though she wanted to tear me apart and devour me alive.I sneered. "Sister? Be real, Jada. Was there ever a single moment when you truly treated me like your older sister? At home, I was your accessory, your foil, a servant you could summon and dismiss whenever you pleased."You should have considered the consequences before you did this. Everything that's happening to you now is entirely your own doing!""You!" The veins on Jada's forehead bulged as she raised her hand to

Under everyone's pressuring, Jada's expression grew increasingly troubled. She stammered, "I... I accidentally dropped my phone and broke it just now, so I can't check my results."I sneered. "You can't? Or you don't want to? You know the answer better than anyone. You're afraid that once your pathetic score is made public, you'll be too ashamed to show your face."My words hit a sore spot. Jada bit her lip hard, and it took her a long time to finally squeeze out a response. "W-Who said that? When I checked my results, I saw that I ranked first. What do I have to be afraid of?" Although that was what she said, there wasn't the slightest hint of confidence in her voice.I pressed, "Then show us your results. Words alone prove nothing. No one is going to believe you without evidence.""Enough!" Dad slammed his hand on the table and glared at me furiously. "How can you talk to Jada like that? She said her phone is broken, and she can't check her results. Why do you keep cornerin

The moment the guard mentioned my name, everyone present was stunned."Janice? Isn't she Jada's older sister? Could it be that the person who was chosen as the chief advisor was Janice, and not Jada?""How is that possible? I'm in the same class as Janice. Her grades are usually below average. There's no way she could have ranked first.""But Jada's grades aren't usually that good either. What exactly is going on?"The murmurs of discussion surged through the crowd like a tidal wave.Mom grabbed the guard's sleeve anxiously and forced a smile. "This is impossible. There must be some mistake. My younger daughter, Jada, was clearly the one who ranked first in the trials. Janice is my older daughter. Her grades have always been terrible. How could she be the person you're looking for?"The guard's expression instantly darkened. He held the file up in front of my parents and stressed, "The person we're looking for is indeed Janice. She ranked first among the entire werewolf race in

A thunderous roar suddenly came from the sky. Drawn outside by the deafening noise, everyone looked up.Three helicopters slowly descended. Someone seemed to notice something and pointed at the royal insignia on the helicopters, exclusive to the Alpha King. They shouted, "Look! Those are the Alpha King's helicopters. They must be here to pick up Jada."Others exclaimed, "Oh my goodness, I've never seen such a grand display before."Another responded, "Well, I expected nothing less. Jada ranked first in the werewolf trials. She's the chief advisor personally chosen by the Alpha King. Naturally, she deserves a grand reception."Everyone talked excitedly among themselves, firmly convinced that Jada had ranked first in the pack's trials. Even Jada hadn't expected the Alpha King to actually send helicopters to pick her up. A trace of bewilderment flashed across her face.Dozens of reporters from various media outlets swarmed over, raising their cameras and thrusting microphones toward
