Chapter 7

Author: Round Belly
At first, I watched their struggles with genuine amusement.

But after a while, even that became boring.

Just how much had Sharon promised them?

Enough for them to keep climbing up and sliding back down over and over again like my walls were some kind of amusement park?

I narrowed my eyes and stared coldly at the surveillance feed before beckoning one of the guards over.

I’d earned more than enough survival points.

It was time to teach them a lesson.

Not long after, I heard complaints starting to spread through the crowd outside.

One man grumbled that Sharon clearly had plenty of food inside her convenience store, yet all she’d promised them was a single loaf of bread per day if they succeeded.

Meanwhile, the guards inside my estate were eating gourmet meals alongside me every day.

At that point, someone bluntly suggested they should just switch sides and work for me instead.

I nearly laughed out loud hearing that.

I already knew Sharon was stingy, but I didn’t expect her idea of winning loyalty was handing out bread.

As for those people trying to defect, I didn’t trust them for a second.

Anyone willing to betray their employer the moment they encountered someone stronger would eventually betray me too once an even bigger threat appeared.

Besides, they’d come here intending to kill me in the first place.

If I were the kind of saint who could forgive that, I would’ve opened the gate for that girl days ago and none of this would’ve happened.

Before I realized it, evening had arrived.

I specifically instructed the chef to prepare foie gras braised in red wine for dinner.

While he cooked, I deliberately opened the windows just enough for the rich aroma to drift outside with the wind.

I enlarged the camera feed and watched several people instinctively swallow.

Even some of the men who had already wanted to give up and leave stopped in their tracks, staring hungrily toward the estate.

I packaged one serving of the foie gras and tied it beneath a drone, then remotely flew it above their heads.

Someone immediately jumped up trying to snatch it, but I skillfully kept the drone hovering just out of reach—close enough for them to see and smell but never touch.

Then my voice slowly echoed from the intercom mounted on the gate.

I told them I heard every word of their conversation.

But I had no interest in feeding useless people.

I only wanted the strongest among them.

Whoever managed to claim the food would earn a place inside my estate.

In an instant, the way they looked at the meal changed completely.

Greed flooded their eyes.

Every single one of them understood what that meant.

Winning didn’t just guarantee one full meal—it meant safety, shelter, and survival for the foreseeable future.

The mob that had come to destroy me immediately fell apart.

Instead, they began viciously attacking each other in hopes of joining my side.

Their weapons were no longer aimed at my gate.

Now they swung them directly at the people who had been their allies moments earlier.

Dark blood splattered across the camera lens until even my live feed was stained a deep, violent red.

In the end, only Scarface remained completely unharmed.

Out of the dozen or so people there, he was the only one carrying a firearm. No one else dared challenge him directly.

He swept a contemptuous gaze across the injured men sprawled on the ground, then sneered at the others glaring at him from a distance—too angry to accept it, yet too afraid of the gun in his hand to do anything about it.

With absolute confidence, he removed the food from the drone and was just about to enjoy his reward when a piercing alarm suddenly exploded through the air.

Did he really think I’d let him eat, recover his strength, and calmly figure out how to deal with me afterward?

Long before sending out the food, I had already rigged a simple trigger mechanism onto the drone.

The moment the food was removed and the weight changed, the alarm automatically activated.

Scarface’s expression instantly darkened.

Everyone present knew exactly what that sound meant.

Zombies were attracted to noise.

Before arriving at my estate, they had already cleared the surrounding area of zombies.

The few drawn over by the noise at the gate had only been isolated roamers, easy enough to deal with.

I let out a cold, mocking laugh.I’d said it from the very beginning that someone stupid enough to spend all their time hurting others was doomed to fail, no matter how powerful their cheat abilities were.Suddenly, Sharon lunged for the gun lying on the ground and pulled the trigger at me without the slightest hesitation.Everything happened too fast.No one had time to react. The smile on her face had become almost insane, as if she could already see herself inheriting everything here after my death.I only sneered in response. If I dared stand there without dodging, it was obviously because I was wearing body armor. What I didn’t expect was that just before the bullet reached me, the zombie bird suddenly burst out from nowhere and threw itself in front of me.The bullet slammed into its hardened feathers with a sharp metallic clang. The moment Sharon saw the zombie bird clearly, terror flooded her face. She opened her mouth to scream, but before a sound could escape, the bird clampe

She had gone insane.A few seconds later, I suddenly sat upright.Wait…Could it be that the eggs had hatched?Zombies didn’t need food to survive, but baby birds were different.Even though zombies couldn’t feel pain, they still instinctively avoided danger like the acid rain. And yet this zombie bird had actually suppressed that instinct for the sake of its children. No matter what, the bird indirectly helped me more than once. It patrolled the estate every day and dealt with wandering zombies, saving me plenty of trouble. It was probably time I returned the favor.I rushed up to the attic and stood in front of the window where the zombie bird could clearly see me.A creature that wouldn’t even allow zombies into the courtyard obviously wouldn’t tolerate me casually invading its territory either. The moment it spotted me, it immediately swooped toward the attic. But I reacted quickly, placing a plate of blueberries inside before slamming the door shut. There was no telling how long t

Before he passed away, Dad had originally planned to build a greenhouse on the estate grounds. He just never got the chance to finish it.And somehow, the system’s special reward was completing that greenhouse for me, which meant I finally had a place where I could grow crops. The moment I entered the system-built greenhouse, I froze in shock.Rich, fertile soil stretched endlessly into the distance before me.On the other side stood livestock pens already stocked with feed.I could not only farm crops here; I could raise animals too.Excited beyond words, I immediately scattered a handful of seeds into the soil. What happened next left me stunned. The seeds began sprouting at a speed visible to the naked eye.Clearly, the greenhouse didn’t just provide endless farmland; it accelerated growth itself. At this rate, I’d be harvesting my own produce within days.I instantly exchanged points for young livestock as well.If plants grew this quickly here, then animals probably would too.I

The moment I stepped outside, the scorching heat nearly knocked me unconscious, even through the system-made protective suit. But the memory of being torn apart alive by zombies in my previous life forced me to stay calm.I clutched my rifle tightly and sprinted toward the top of the wall. The other guards were already firing nonstop. One of them nearly broke down as he shouted that they had already tried using explosives to blow apart the zombie pile. But the bombs barely did any damage.Worse, one of the zombies had actually picked up a grenade and thrown it back at them. If its aim had been even slightly better, they would’ve been blown to pieces. At this point, the only reliable way to kill zombies was still destroying their brains.I frowned deeply.Just during the first week of the apocalypse, I was still able to burn large groups of zombies to death by detonating abandoned cars. And yet only a short time later, even explosives were becoming ineffective against them.My fears had

She wasn’t dead, just unconscious. But I had no interest in worrying about her.A quick glance to the side immediately caught my attention instead. My vegetable sprouts had started curling up at the edges. They were perfectly healthy yesterday. My heart ached a little.I reached out to touch one of the wilted leaves and a snowflake suddenly landed in my palm.I didn’t realize then that the snowflake was only the beginning.Over the next week, the daytime temperature continued climbing to terrifying levels, eventually reaching nearly 140 degrees Fahrenheit at its hottest. But once night fell, the temperature would plummet to almost negative sixty. The difference between day and night was so extreme it felt insane.Even though it was technically still summer, every night I could see thick layers of snow piling up outside, only for it to rapidly evaporate beneath the scorching heat the next morning.Sharon hadn’t come looking for trouble in quite some time now.During the day, zombies cro

I barely had a few peaceful days before another alert came in late one night.Sharon was outside my estate again. Then again, it made sense. Her system was a Resource Plundering System. She only earned points by stealing from others, unlike me.My Apocalypse Survival System rewarded me for killing zombies and farming crops, which meant I could live comfortably in the apocalypse without risking my life scheming against people every day.And whenever I dealt with one of Sharon’s ridiculous little plots, my survival points only increased further, making my already comfortable life even better.Sharon clearly assumed my estate had already lost power.Even if I had backup electricity, she probably believed there was no way it could support a place this large for long. That was why she finally dared to show up openly tonight.I watched through the monitor as she lowered her head and rummaged through her backpack. For the first time in a long while, my heartbeat climbed into my throat.Sharo
