Chapter 7

Author: Doofus
At the exceedingly luxurious riverside restaurant, Finn took a window seat.

The picturesque river was visible as soon as he turned, and it was the first time he was at a place this expensive.

Joe enjoyed everything he didn't have.

Zoe, who was always calling him a bum, would pamper Joe with expensive supercars.

Vera was cold to everyone except Joe.

Even Yvie would always cook for Joe even though she had a bad back.

He could never yearn for such things—the only privilege he ever had in his last life was Sue's assistance and the strawberries she had given him.

In hindsight, Sue had really been good to him, even punishing Joe who showed up at the hospital just to mock him.

He couldn't quite put a finger on why he would remember that before he died and was even worried that she would be sad to find him dead when she visited again.

But would a big-shot heiress like her get sad over a passing stranger?

That was when Sue arrived, staring downward at Finn with pride and amusement on her pretty face. "You sure are full of surprises. Do you even know the price range of this place? Just sitting down here sets you back ten grand at minimum!"

Finn raised his brow in turn.

That was just who Sue was—towering, beautiful, but also endlessly prideful and domineering!

The more he looked at her, the more annoying she appeared.

Sitting down, she said, "You're really poor, right? I've looked into you and found out that you can't even afford tuition fees. But here's a chance for you to make money."

Finn leaned back, his brow lifting even more as he waited for her to continue.

That was when Sue's domineering attitude faded, and she was hanging her head and speaking with a stifled tone. "Actually, my mom has cancer too… Lung cancer, that is. I can see that she's hurting, but she's refusing to tell me anything.

"My dad isn't really all that close to her, and he's even having an affair. I can't bear to see her suffering alone like this."

Finn was left frowning with a look of myriad feelings, not expecting her to tell him about her mother's condition.

An indescribable emotion swelled in his heart.

Even if this was his second life, he didn't expect to run into Sue again in this life, let alone expect that she would tell him everything on their second meeting.

However, what was more ridiculous was her apologizing the very next second. "I'm sorry about before—I didn't know about your cancer."

This time, Finn actually flinched, and that weird look left Sue hissing, "Don't give me that look. I'm being serious here!"

"Heh. I believe you," he said, as he had learned about her personality since his last life.

Sue pouted and tugged on his arm. "In that case, we can start talking shop. I'll give you money, and then your life and body belongs to me. Don't worry—I'll be paying for this dinner as a way of apology. Now name your price, Finn Lawson!"

Finn simply went with her flow, not at all bothered by the physical contact since he was used to it in his past life.

"Are you sure about what you're doing, ma'am?" he asked. "I'm starting to suspect that you want to be my sugar mommy. Ugh, just saying it is terrible."

"Sugar mommy?!"

Sue actually blushed upon realizing that. "D-Don't get the wrong idea! I just want you to tell me about how cancer and chemo feel. Heck, I'll arrange for you to stay in the room next to my mom's. Chemo gets lonely for her, but if you show her the way, she might find the will to live."

It was a simple thought on Sue's part—she wasn't all that dull, but at this stage, she really hoped that her mother would desire to live!

If she understood her mother's pain, then she could take better care of her.

And with her putting it that way, Finn really couldn't find it in himself to say no.

"You can think about it until dinner is over!" Sue said and beckoned.

"Ms. Cavill, do we start cooking the usual right away? As in your favorites?"

Finn naturally didn't miss how fancy a restaurant it was, or how the waiter virtually glided toward Sue at a subtle gesture.

And judging from what the waiter said, Finn suddenly had a realization as to who owned the restaurant.

After all, Sue's father, Tim Cavill, did own a chain of F&B businesses in Navik and the rest of the country.

That was when Sue handed Finn a menu and told him, "Pick anything you like."

Finn absent-mindedly opened it and froze.

It was all written in Franconian!

"What?" Sue asked, curious as Finn held the menu in silence for a long while.

Finn pursed his lips in embarrassment and asked, "Is there a menu in Nubian?"

He didn't expect that he would have the privilege of dining in such an expensive restaurant, only for the menu to be in a foreign language.

"Pfft!"

Sue snickered out loud, not expecting that. "It's my dad's restaurant, but there are no menus in Nubian."

Then, feeling like that was rude, she quickly added, "But it's fine. I don't know Franconian myself—just look at the pictures and order what you like. That's what I do all the time."

"Oh… I see," Finn replied, nodding and handing the menu to her.

However, he found her staring at him intently, and he thought he could see his own reflection in her entrancing gaze.

"Can you help?" he asked. "I really don't know my Franconian dishes."

Sue smiled, baring her dainty fangs that made her look slightly more youthful. "Fine—there are some dishes I think would suit a newbie like you."

As she started to order, pointing at the menu and speaking fluent Franconian, Finn felt mixed emotions watching her work.

They were both nineteen, but his own family despised him, while Sue had no problems dining in expensive restaurants like this one.

He couldn't help sighing—sometimes one just couldn't win.

Still, he felt fortunate that he went back in time and had the privilege to dine here with Sue, instead of having to stick with hospital food the whole time.

After ordering, Sue stared at Finn, musing to herself that he must be worried about his cancer situation.

Eventually, she quietly said. "Don't worry—it's just cancer. It's curable… And I believe that where there's a will, there's a way."

Finn raised a brow—the way she said it, it sounded like she was trying to console him as much as she was telling himself.

Still, he nodded. "That's true… But most people just don't have the money."

Sue's lips curled up, her eyes shining. "Well, that's easy. I'll be your sugar mommy—you will have money as long as you do what I say. Money is really not a concern for me."

However, Finn was hesitant.

He had the money from family after being disowned, and now, he had a rich sugar mommy… Did life really just present him with that many opportunities?

"Hey, if it isn't Finn Lawson, the real son of the Lawsons!"The rowdy cafeteria abruptly turned silent as everyone turned toward the student who spoke out loud—even the ones waiting in line. However, the student continued with jealousy flashing in his eyes. "Just think about it. He couldn't find his parents for so long but suddenly found them… He must have seen how well off Joe was and wanted money!"The others sitting beside him quickly agreed. "That's right! How thick-skinned! How unseemly!""Kid has no principles. He's always demanding for more money—that's why the family resents him too!"Hearing that, the others began to clamor."Yeah. Finn had been playing Great Gate ever since his team made it, and he even sent Yorick a link to the app.As it was not published yet, it was only available in offline mode.Yorick had stopped playing his favorite game since he smashed his mouse and was busy playing Great Gate since.Today, in philosophy class, in which everyone was left dozing off, he was playing it too."Tch!"He clicked his tongue as he lowered his phone, staring at the words 'Game Over' on the screen and scratching his head repeatedly, leaving his hair a mess."Your game's so hard!" he complained. "I can't even get past the second level!"And yet, he tapped on the replay button anyway, groaning as he did, "Ugh, I can do this! It's so addicting that I see it when I close my eyes!"Hearing him, Ruby Locke—the class princess—turned toward them as she was about to doze off from the class too."What game are you playing? Is it really that hard?" she asked, her face lighting up with interest. "Let me try it and s

Yvie was sulking as she returned home. The rest of the Lawsons had been waiting the whole night, and they quickly gathered in the living room when they saw her return.Seeing that look on Yvie's face, Vera promptly confirmed her own suspicions about Finn, and he had to bully Yvie on top of that! She promptly planted herself beside Yvie, putting an arm around her shoulder and rocking her. "Don't get so upset, sis!" she said, and then snarled through gritted teeth, "I knew Finn was a rotten apple all along. Now that you've caught him red-handed, he'll definitely do his worst to get back at us! How dare he try to slander me? I'll show him!""Wait, what?" Yvie blurted in surprise."Oh, Yvie," Joe chimed in just then, sitting on the armrest with a vague smile. "It was dangerous to talk to him alone. Who knows what he'll do…"Naturally, he wasn't at all worried like the rest of the family, and was absolutely pleased that they were going after Finn. With things carrying on like this,

Even so, Finn had always insisted on cooking for Yvie, and she suddenly wondered how long it had been since he cooked for her. That was when she remembered—after they made him sign that disownment agreement, and after which he never came home since.Yvie suddenly couldn't help but wonder if she was prejudiced against Finn the whole time, but that was when the food arrived. She ate after Finn had asked her to, and then thought about it before asking, "So Vera told me she bumped into you at Kite Tower, where you met a man called Malcolm Lock? What's that about?"Finn was eating too, and he paused. "So that's why you called me?"Yvie nodded, chagrined as she had never invited Finn anywhere like this before.Still, Finn shrugged and took out his phone, holding it in front of Yvie as he tapped on the Great Gate app. "This is a mobile game I'm investing in, and I'm discussing a viral marketing plan with Mr. Lock."As he pocketed his phone, he finished, "I guess you can call it a start

After finishing her work despite looking distracted, Vera quickly sent her staff away before rushing home.Zoe coincidentally finished work and got home as well, so Vera quickly stopped her and told her everything.Zoe frowned in turn. "Let's just calm down for now. We can discuss it with the rest of the family at dinner."Henry's bid for that major project was still ongoing since they managed to keep Joe's arrest under wraps. But if Finn were to publicize it, then Vera would lose her lead role, and Henry would lose his bid, while Zoe's own company might lose market value as well!-Once the sisters told the rest of the family during dinner, things tensed up immediately.Henry even slammed his fork on the table, his temple veins surfacing as he bellowed, "That rotten brat!"He could strangle Finn right then—was he so dead set on destroying their family? Was there even a sliver of that brat which measured up to Joe?!Ruth put down her fork too and patted Henry's arm to calm him

On top of that, it reinforced the public image that Vera was just a pretty face slash nepobaby, as her hopes to turn the tide of long-standing criticism against her fell flat.Instead, her reputation took a nosedive and her fanbase dwindled, with some diehard fans even becoming her worst detractors.Even as Finn wondered if he should tell Vera, she finished speaking with the press. After her staff escorted the press members away, she immediately spotted Finn standing nearby, her tactful smile immediately melting into disgust. Her tone was just as harsh as she snapped, "Finn! You're really persistent, aren't you? It's like there's just no getting rid of you! What is it now? Already using up all your money and you're now here to stalk me? How did you even find out where I am?!"I'm warning you—quit bothering me, and don't think you're getting anything from me!
