Chapter 5

"Aurora..." Asher's voice was awkward.

I ignored him and started to walk away.

"Luna!" Seraphina called out. "Please, wait."

I stopped and turned to face her.

She walked over, holding Leo, a regretful smile on her face. "I feel I owe you an apology. I know you're Asher's Luna, and I'm... I'm just a single mother who needs help. My presence has probably made you uncomfortable."

Her tone was so sincere, so gentle. She looked like a woman who was truly sorry.

"It's fine," I said flatly.

"Thank you so much for understanding," Seraphina said, her eyes shining. "Leo, say hello to Auntie Aurora."

The little boy looked at me shyly. "Hi, Auntie Aurora."

Just then, Asher's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and stepped away to answer.

"Auntie Aurora, do you want a candy?" Leo asked in his small voice. "Mommy says this candy is super yummy."

I looked down and saw Seraphina take a blue-wrapped candy from her purse and hand it to Leo.

It was one of my calming lozenges. I knew the wrapper, the color, the design.

But a few seconds later, Leo's expression twisted. He clutched his throat, gasping for air.

"Mommy... I... I can't breathe..."

Seraphina shrieked in terror. "Leo! Leo, what's wrong?!"

Silver-colored patterns began to appear on the boy's skin—a classic sign of silver poisoning. His breathing grew more ragged, his small face turning red.

"Oh, gods!" Seraphina clutched Leo, screaming hysterically. "Asher! Help! Something's wrong with Leo!"

Hearing her screams, Asher ended his call and rushed over.

"What happened?!" he demanded, his face turning pale when he saw Leo.

"It was Aurora!" Seraphina cried, pointing at me. "She gave Leo a piece of candy! He ate it and then this happened!"

"What?" Asher stared at me in disbelief.

"It wasn't me!" I shot back. "She gave him the lozenge herself! This has nothing to do with me!"

"You're lying!" Seraphina retorted, her voice shaking with rage. "Why would I ever hurt my own child? It was you! You were jealous, so you decided to hurt an innocent pup!"

Asher's gaze flickered between us. Then he saw the corner of a blue wrapper sticking out of my purse.

The same kind of calming lozenge.

"Aurora..." His voice turned to ice. "What is that?"

I looked at the wrapper in my purse and understood everything. She knew I used them. She had deliberately given Leo the poisoned lozenge in front of me to frame me.

The way Asher looked at me, it was like I was a murderer. It didn't matter what I said. He had already convicted me.

He called his Beta, ordering him to rush Leo to the hospital.

Then he turned to me, his voice cold and hard. "Apologize to Seraphina and Leo. Right now. If you don't, I will petition the Elders to formally reject our mate bond!"

Hearing that, I let out a small, bitter laugh.

"Reconsider? There's no need for that, Asher."

With that, I reached up, unclasped the crescent moon necklace from around my neck—the symbol of the Luna—and threw it at him.

The silver chain sailed through the air and landed at his feet.

Asher stared at the necklace on the ground, completely stunned by my reaction.

"What... what do you mean?"

"I mean we're nothing."

Asher's brow furrowed. "Aurora, have you lost your mind? The mate bond is witnessed by the Moon Goddess. You can't just say it's over!"

"Can't I?" I raised an eyebrow.

Today was the third day. The order to sever the bond was already in effect.

As if to prove his authority and snap me out of it, he instinctively drew on his Alpha power, trying to force the mind link between us, to dominate my emotions.

But the next second, Asher's face went deathly pale.

The connection he expected, that familiar feeling of two souls intertwined, wasn't there.

Between us, there was nothing. Only emptiness.

"No… impossible…" He stumbled backward, all the color draining from his face. His eyes were wide with horror and panic. "Our bond… How could it be…"

I looked at his broken, desperate expression and felt nothing. No satisfaction, no joy.

Whatever regret he felt, it was far too late.

I turned to leave, tossing one last sentence over my shoulder.

"Go look at the wolfstone that was sent to your office. Then you'll understand everything."

The captain held a thick file of evidence and looked sternly at the "performing" Seraphina. "Ms. Seraphina, under Article 67 of the Lycan Code, you are hereby charged with false accusation, disturbing the public order, and endangering the stability of the pack. Please cooperate with our investigation."Seraphina's face went white. The child in her arms sensed her panic and started to cry."What? I... I didn't lie! It was Aurora! She hurt my child!" she stammered. The captain coolly opened the file. "We have obtained the complete security footage from the day of the incident, as well as multiple witness statements. The evidence proves that you gave the child the food containing the allergen, and then maliciously framed Aurora."The crowd began to stir, their looks of sympathy turning to suspicion.I walked out from the crowd. "My fellow pack members," I said calmly, "let's all see the truth together."A giant projection screen rose in the middle of the plaza and began to play the securi

At the Silver Creek Pack, I threw myself back into my business.I rediscovered my passion for life, just like before I'd been mated to Asher.Just as I was starting to forget the unpleasant past, the Council Enforcers showed up.They informed me that Seraphina had filed a complaint, accusing me of intentionally harming her pup and damaging his wolf spirit."That's a complete lie!" I retorted. "The truth is the exact opposite. She's the one who fed her own child something dangerous and then framed me!"The captain was stone-faced. "Ma'am, please remain calm. This will all be investigated. Until then, your businesses are to be frozen, and you are to await the Council's final ruling."The news spread like wildfire through the entire werewolf community. As I walked out of my office building, I heard whispers on the street:"That's her, the evil woman who hurt a child!""It's terrifying, to attack an innocent pup like that!""I heard the poor thing is so weak he can't even shift anymore..."

Faced with his threat, I just smiled. "My departure, just like the breaking of our bond, has been officially approved by the Elders' Council. Or are you, the Alpha of the Black Moon Pack, prepared to defy the Elders?"I pulled a document stamped with the Council's seal from my purse.Asher stared at the document in disbelief, his face turning even paler.Just then, Kaelen, who had been silent, finally spoke. He produced a fine silver sigil—the symbol of the Silver Creek Alpha, engraved with an elegant wolf head and ancient runes."I am Kaelen, Alpha of the Silver Creek Pack," he said, his voice low and commanding. "Alpha Asher, if you intend to stand in Aurora's way, you'll have to go through me."That was the last straw. It completely shattered Asher’s composure."What right do you have to interfere in our business!" he roared, swinging a fist at Kaelen. "Aurora is mine! She will always be mine!"Just as his fist was about to connect, I instinctively stepped in front of Kaelen. The mo

Before I could answer Asher's hostile question, Seraphina spoke up, slipping into her usual damsel-in-distress act. “Asher, don’t be too hard on Aurora. She’s just upset and needs some company. It’s understandable if she does something... out of line.”She was implying something was going on between me and Kaelen.I sneered. "Seraphina, don't project your own filth onto me. I'm nothing like you two. And for the record, my mate bond with Asher is broken. My life is none of his business now."Asher got more agitated. "No! I don't accept it! I never agreed to it!"He pointed furiously at Kaelen. "Is it because of him? Aurora, are you throwing away everything we had for this man?"Looking at him, all I felt was disgust. "Asher, you know damn well why this is happening. It's not because of Kaelen. It's because of your own betrayal and coldness.""It was a mistake!" Asher argued frantically. "Aurora, I know I messed up, but I didn't mean for it to happen! I just... I thought you were jealous

An hour later, I was sitting in a coffee shop across from my new ally: Kaelen, the Alpha of the Silver Creek Pack.I’d already decided to move my company and all my assets to his pack.Just then, my phone buzzed like crazy. It was Asher.I knew he must have seen the wolfstone.I answered."Aurora! The stone... what does that wolfstone mean?!"I met his hoarse roar with cold calm. "It's exactly what it looks like, Asher. A wolfstone for our dead pup."Asher muttered in disbelief, "Our dead pup... How? No, you... you have to be lying..."I shattered his delusion without a flicker of remorse. "I started bleeding heavily at Leo's party. The doctor said if I'd gotten to the hospital two hours earlier, the pup might have been saved. But you were too busy celebrating Leo's first shift. You said I was just being dramatic."I didn't have time for his breakdown. I hung up.Kaelen’s gaze was full of pity. I forced a small smile. “Don’t. Don’t feel sorry for me. I’ve severed the mate bond. I can f
