We couldn't find a taxi on the way back, but Trevis spotted a bicycle nearby.

My tear-streaked face was still wet as I sat on the back seat.

As the bicycle started moving, Trevis's lean back became even more prominent. He pedalled with effort, gasping for breath as he spoke, "Kathryn, you're still young, and you may not fully understand matters of the heart. I believe that you've been momentarily misled. When you grow up, you'll realize that your feelings for me are purely familial."

I clenched the edge of the bicycle seat, not even daring to wrap my arms around his waist. I spoke softly, "I understand, Trevis."

It felt like my teenage years had suddenly come to an end.

My restless heart was just a personal melodrama.

I devoted all my energy to self-improvement, studying tirelessly, and immersing myself in books.

The once-lively rumors and gossip surrounding me gradually faded as I intentionally ignored them.
