Elara walked into the hospital room, her heels clicking against the polished floor. She paused by the door, watching Grayson lying in the hospital bed, visibly caught off guard by her presence. His eyes widened, and he struggled to sit up, wincing slightly from the effort.

“Elara… you?” he stammered, his voice filled with disbelief. “I… I wasn’t expecting to see you here.”

Elara raised an eyebrow, a slight, unreadable smile on her lips. "Of course you’re shocked, Grayson," she replied coldly. "I know exactly what you tried to do. Your plans were bound to have consequences."

Grayson’s face paled, and he swallowed hard, his gaze dropping. “Elara, I… I’m so sorry,” he said, his voice breaking slightly. “I couldn’t control myself at that time. I wasn’t thinking about right or wrong… I just wanted you… forever. But… but I know now that I went about it all the wrong way.”

Elara's expression hardened, unimpressed by his apology. She reached into her bag, pulling out an envelope. With a firm hand, she handed it to him. “This,” she said curtly, “is your termination letter. You’re no longer an employee of the company.”

Grayson’s eyes darted to the envelope in shock. “Elara, please—”

But she didn’t let him finish. "I’ve also filed a complaint against you for your actions," she continued, her tone unyielding. "I’ll see you again, Grayson, but it won’t be in the way you wanted."

Without another word, Elara turned on her heel and walked out, leaving Grayson sitting there, speechless, the letter still clutched in his trembling hands. Outside the room, she could hear a few of his friends whispering as they noticed her passing by. They, too, had been dismissed from their positions in the company. She didn’t spare them a glance.

Once she was in the quiet of her car, she exhaled, the weight of the encounter settling on her. She picked up her phone and dialed her assistant, Sophia. The line clicked, and Sophia’s familiar voice answered.

“Hello, ma’am.”

“Did you confirm who sent him?” Elara asked, keeping her tone steady.

“Yes, ma’am,” Sophia replied. “It was Mr. Ryker who put him up to it. But it seems Grayson got a bit… sidetracked with his own agenda.”

Elara’s lips tightened. “Good. Track down Mr. Ryker and arrange a meeting as soon as possible. I want to understand exactly what game he’s playing here.”

“Understood, ma’am,” Sophia said, sounding resolute. “Is there anything else?”

“Yes,” Elara continued, glancing out the car window, her gaze hard. “I asked you to gather details on Mr. Voss. Have you made any progress?”

There was a pause on the other end before Sophia spoke again, his tone slightly hesitant. “Yes, ma’am. But… I think it’s best if we discuss this in person. The findings are… complicated. It’s not something to talk about over the phone.”

Elara’s brow furrowed, sensing the unease in Sophia’s voice. “Is it serious?”

Sophia hesitated. “Yes, ma’am. When I started looking deeper into Mr. Voss’s background, I found some… disturbing connections. It’s not something I expected. I’ll have everything ready for you when you arrive.”

Elara nodded in agreement and said “Alright. I’ll be back in the office tomorrow. Make sure everything is prepared. And, Sophia… put extra security on Tessa and my family. I don’t want any surprises.”

“Of course, ma’am. I’ll handle it personally,” Sophia replied, her voice firm. “I won’t let anything slip through.”

“Good,” Elara said, a hint of relief in her tone. “That will be all for now, Sophia.”

“Yes, ma’am. Take care,” Sophia said, and with that, the line disconnected.

Elara put her phone down, her mind racing. She looked out of the car window, the city lights blurring as her driver navigated through the streets. The pieces of this twisted game were finally falling into place.

Elara sank back into the car seat, her mind swirling. Why does this man keep interfering in our lives? What on earth is happening here? She sighed, frustrated. After a moment, she leaned forward and told her driver, “Drop me here. I need some fresh air.”

The driver glanced at her in the rearview mirror, hesitating. “Are you sure, ma’am? It’s a bit late.”

Elara nodded firmly. “Yes, I’ll walk the rest of the way. Just go.”

The driver pulled over, and Elara stepped out onto the quiet street. As she walked, her phone rang, and she saw Tessa’s name flash across the screen. She answered, pressing the phone to her ear. “Hello, Tessa. What’s the matter?”

Tessa’s voice was businesslike. “Ma’am, I just wanted to update you on the progress with your house and some other projects. There are also a few new collaborations and other company matters we need to discuss.”

Elara glanced at her watch. “I’m out right now, but I’ll call you back at 7 p.m. Make sure you’re available then, alright?”

“Of course, ma’am,” Tessa replied promptly. “I’ll be ready. See you.”

Ending the call, Elara put her phone back in her bag and continued walking, the night air soothing her tense nerves. By the time she reached her flat, her exhaustion had deepened, and her mind felt heavy. But when she opened the door, she stopped short, surprised to find Alex sprawled comfortably on her sofa, watching TV with his feet propped up.

Seeing her, he looked up with a mischievous grin. “What’s that look for, baby? Do I look so good that you’ve forgotten how to blink?”

Elara rolled her eyes, tossing her bag aside and grabbing a snack from the kitchen. She glared at him, but her lips curved into a small smile. “Actually, I was thinking about the best way to break your head.”

Alex pretended to be horrified, putting a hand over his heart. “Are you my girlfriend or my worst enemy? All you ever think about is hurting me!”

Elara sighed, brushing her hair back from her face. “Alex, I’m really tired today. Can you give me a break and let me rest?”

He crossed his arms, shaking his head. “Nope, I’m not leaving. I didn’t come here to be dismissed, you know. I came to congratulate you on the big adventure you had today!”

Elara narrowed her eyes, hands on her hips. “And now that you’ve done that, are you finally going to leave?”

Alex chuckled, patting the seat next to him. “Not a chance. Come here, sit down,” he said, a playful glint in his eyes. “I’ll hold you until you feel relaxed.”

She couldn’t help but laugh, giving in as she plopped down beside him. He wrapped his arm around her, drawing her close, and she rested her head on his shoulder, feeling the comfort of his warmth.

After a moment of quiet, Elara looked up at him, her voice soft. “Have you… ever been in a relationship before?”

Alex looked down at her, surprised. “No. Why? You think I’m that smooth?”

Elara shrugged, smiling a little. “Well, you’re quite good at flirting, so I just wondered…”

Alex laughed, reaching over to gently tuck a strand of her hair behind her ear. “Flirting comes naturally when it’s with you,” he said, his gaze soft. “And anyway, no one else has ever gotten close enough.”

Elara blushed, feeling her cheeks warm under his gaze. To distract herself, she quickly asked, “So… what’s with the sudden change of subject?”

Alex leaned back, chuckling. “Honestly, I don’t get rich people. Today, I met with Mr. and Ms. Thronefield. And can you believe it? She calls her own dad ‘sir’ instead of ‘dad’ like, who does that?”

Elara laughed, amused by his irritation. “Alex, they’re the ones paying you, aren’t they? Maybe you should be a little more respectful of their… quirks.”

Alex shook his head, still grinning. “You’re not getting it. She’s so formal with her dad! And she takes forever to make a decision. I was asking her about a simple change, and she took five minutes just to say ‘yes.’ I was waiting for her to pull out a chart or something.”

Elara covered her mouth to hide her laughter, shaking her head. “Alex, some people just work differently. Besides, their family matters are none of our business.”

Alex leaned in closer, his hand brushing against hers. “That’s what I like about you, Elara. You’ve got all the power, but you don’t let it get to your head. You’re still… you.” He looked at her with a warm smile that made her heart skip a beat.

Elara looked down, feeling her cheeks flush again. “Alex…” she murmured.

He pulled her closer, his arms wrapping around her securely. “Come here. Just relax,” he whispered, his voice soft. “You don’t always have to be strong. You don’t have to carry everything on your own.”

Elara sighed, leaning into his embrace, feeling safe and protected. After a long, exhausting day, she finally felt the tension easing from her shoulders as she let herself relax in his arms.

They stayed like that for a while, wrapped up in each other.

As Elara and Alex sat together in the cozy quiet, her phone suddenly rang, breaking the peaceful moment. She glanced at the screen, seeing Tessa’s name, and sighed.

She turned to Alex. “I need to take this call, it’s important. So if you’d rather leave, go ahead. Otherwise, you’re welcome to wait until nine.”

Alex placed a hand dramatically on his heart, pretending to be hurt. “Ohhh, so I’m just supposed to fend for myself? Fine, you go to your meeting, and I’ll whip something up in the kitchen. Maybe I’ll surprise you with a masterpiece!”

Elara chuckled, rolling her eyes. “You, cooking? This I have to see.” She got up, giving him a playful nudge, and walked to her room to take the call.

Once inside, she shut the door, took a deep breath, and answered, “Hello, Tessa. What’s the update?”

The boardroom doors opened without announcement.Conversation faltered mid-sentence.Elara Thornfield stepped inside. The room was already full too full. Men who rarely shared the same space now occupied one long oval table, their presence deliberate, their alliance temporary but dangerous. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls reflected the city behind them, turning their silhouettes into distorted doubles. Power liked mirrors.Elara did not pause at the threshold. She walked in with measured steps, heels silent against polished marble, posture straight but unforced. Her suit was dark, understated, impeccably cut—authority without excess. • Whispers Of The Thornfield Empire   The Signature That Shouldn’t Exist

The city slept uneasily beneath a veil of mist, its skyline blurred like a lie told too often. From the floor-to-ceiling windows of her penthouse, Elara Thornfield watched the lights pulse, old, distant, obedient. The world always looked honest from this height. That was its greatest deception. She stood barefoot on marble, sleeves rolled past her elbows, dark hair pulled into a loose knot that spoke of intent rather than elegance. The room around her was silent except for the soft hum of encrypted servers hidden behind an art panel. No guards. No staff. This was where truth was stripped bare. The documents lay spread across the glass table.Original contracts. Filed copies. Bank guarantees. Digital scans. And one poisoned thread woven through them all.Elara picked up the first contract—the legitimate one. Her fingers traced the signature at the bottom. Clean. Confident. Axel’s hand had always been precise, pressure balanced, the final stroke sli

Axel’s pulse raced, but his mind was razor-sharp. The corridor was dim, the air thick with tension. He wasn’t about to let intimidation dictate his actions. These men had cornered him, thinking fear would do the work for them. They didn’t know him.As the first man stepped forward, Axel shifted his weight, every muscle coiled like a spring, ready for the slightest move. His eyes swept the corridor, taking note of shadows, doors, and possible escape routes.“Brave words,” the man sneered, stepping closer. “For someone who”Before he could finish, Axel lunged. His strike was precise, aimed at the shoulder, followed by a twist that sent the man stumbling into the wall with a thud. Pain and surprise flashed across the attacker’s face. The other men reacted instantly, but Axel was already moving. Years of training both physical and mental had prepared him for situations exactly like this. He ducked under a swing, pivoted, and used the attacker’s m

  • Whispers Of The Thornfield Empire   Walking Into the Shadows

Axel left his office later that evening, the weight of the day still pressing on his shoulders. The building was quiet now, the hum of fluorescent lights and the soft buzz of the air conditioning the only sounds accompanying his steps. He checked his phone. No new messages. No urgent alerts. Just the same warning he had received earlier: “Be careful. They’re moving faster than you think.” He frowned. Who could have sent it? He didn’t recognize the number. Maybe one of the clerks, one of the junior staff trying to warn him. Or perhaps… someone with motives he couldn’t yet understand.. Shrugging off the unease, he made his way toward the materials storage room. The day’s evidence—documents, purchase records, contracts—was still there, and he wanted to double-check them himself. If someone had manipulated the board’s decision, he wanted to see it firsthand. He didn’t notice the subtle shift in the security cameras a

The boardroom slowly emptied.Chairs scraped softly against the polished floor. Voices dropped into murmurs and then into silence as one by one, the powerful figures who had just debated Axel’s fate walked out—some satisfied, some irritated, some quietly plotting.Axel remained seated. His hands were clenched on the table, knuckles white, mind spinning far louder than the room ever had.None of it made sense. And then—there she was.Elara.Standing near the far end of the table, calm as if she belonged there. Not flustered. Not intimidated. As if she hadn’t just faced men and women who could end careers with a signature.Axel pushed his chair back abruptly and stood.“Wait.”His voice echoed slightly in the now-empty room.Elara paused but didn’t turn immediately.
