I can tell Kai isn’t doing well the next time they bring me to him. The room is oddly empty, except for me and Brax, and of course Kai. The other guards brought me here and rushed out with murmured words to Brax.

Not one to waste time when given an opportunity, I head toward the unconscious Kai. His wolf perks up when he hears me coming, but the man in front of me doesn’t move. The veins in his face and neck are all blackened and protrude out of his skin. I set my hand on his forehead, and gasp. Most of his blood has now been replaced by this decaying blood, and it’s then that I realize why it feels so familiar.

We had known they were trying to hybridize him, that much was obvious. But what they’re trying to do… it’s outlawed.

For good reason. It could tip the scales of nature completely. If they managed to succeed, Kai would cease to be, fading completely into a monster. It’s just not biologically possible.
