Chapter 428

Author: Summer Blossom
"Who the hell cares about him? If Edward died, all my effort in raising him would've gone to waste. That's the only reason I care," Yosef snapped in anger.

Nolan broke into a cold sweat. When Yosef was furious, his words always came out twisted, saying the exact opposite of his true feelings.

Listening to them talk, Edward gradually calmed down. He lowered the hand that had been propping up his head, though he still wouldn't look at them.

"I'm not sick," he said hoarsely.

The room was quiet enough that even with Edward's voice low and raspy, Yosef still heard him clearly.

His face turned red with fury. "You're not sick? Then who was the one who collapsed on the floor, too weak to stand? Who was convulsing all over, nearly passed out from being unable to breathe?"

Edward didn't respond. He just stared at the baseboard along the wall.

"They had to give you a sedative just to calm you down. Then a relaxant. And a sympatholytic drug," Yosef continued. "You're not sick? Then who is?

If Sharon wanted to change careers, Elias would take her abroad, place her within his own company, or even guide her personally.Of course, the reality was that she didn't need to work at all. The best scenario would be for her to live happily like a princess. She could just enjoy life and stay by their parents' side. While Elias was envisioning all this, a call from Mitch came through."Um… Mr. Hale," Mitch sounded hesitant, as if unsure whether to speak."What is it?" Elias asked."Well, I had someone look into more information about Ms. Emerson, and online there were some…" Mitch trailed off, unsure if he should continue.Elias frowned. "What about online? Is there bad press on Sharon?" Since she was a model and a public figure, he wouldn't have been surprised if she had some negative press. However, he didn't think it mattered. He'd take care of it all and wipe everything clean."It's not exactly bad press. It's a scandal," Mitch replied.Elias fell silent.A scandal and

By the time the call ended, Mitch had already returned to the office. Elias looked at the file, his eyes fixed on the altered section, his brows furrowing tightly. He wondered why Sharon's recorded age had been increased by two years. If that were the case, then the timeline wouldn't match at all. Before he could ask, Mitch, reading the expression on his boss' face, offered an explanation first. After hearing it, Elias' frown eased slightly. Still, he wasn't completely convinced. "Look into Sharon's academic records," Elias instructed.Even though the DNA test had confirmed everything, Elias felt that the altered document was too suspicious. He wanted to be thorough.Mitch pulled up Sharon's academic records, from elementary through college, and compiled them all into a single report, which he then sent to Elias' computer. He even found her previous employers, her job titles, and personal photos. Everything was accounted for. After reviewing it all, Elias rested his chin on one

After saying that, Raymond stood up and took out a few more files from the cabinet. He said, "Look, these have been altered too."Mitch glanced up. As Raymond had said, the ages had all been changed."But aren't there rules about not modifying records? Not even a typo is supposed to be allowed," Mitch said."Ah, back then, things weren't so strict. Those rules only came later," Raymond replied. "Besides, all school enrollment records are now stored digitally. Paper records are just supplementary."Mitch nodded. Conditions back then were indeed poor, and the orphanage itself was outdated, so there hadn't been many strict procedures in place."This orphan is a relative of my boss. I'd like to retrieve her full file and household registration. What is the required process?" Mitch asked."I'll handle the paperwork myself. I'll let you know which materials I need from you," Raymond said, smiling.Mitch paused. He wondered why the orphanage director himself would handle such a task, i

Naturally, Mitch wouldn't say anything to Elias' parents ahead of time. It would only be a true surprise if Elias shared the news himself. He had been standing outside the office for nearly 20 minutes before Elias finally ended the call. Mitch knocked and entered.Inside, Elias sat upright in his chair and wiped his face with a tissue.Although he had resumed his usual stern and formal expression, the joy on his face hadn't faded. He looked at the report Mitch handed over, then raised his head and said, "Head over to Sunlit Hearthstead Orphanage and pull the file on my sister, Sharon Emerson."Mitch acknowledged Elias' instruction and left to handle it.Alone in the office once again, Elias stared at the final conclusion on the report, reading it over and over. After finally calming down, he scanned the report and sent a copy to Edmund overseas. The result was conclusive. It was time to let them know the truth—he had found his sister. After sending the scanned report, Elias rea

"You have the necklace our father, Edmund, gave you all those years ago. You remember the clothes you were wearing when you arrived at the orphanage. The timing, the experiences—everything lines up."I suspected from the beginning that you were my sister, but I didn't dare say it outright. I had to wait until the DNA test results came back before I could tell you."Mom, Dad, and I… We've been looking for you all these years. Please forgive us for only finding you now. I'm so sorry you've had to suffer for so many years…" Elias' voice was thick with guilt and remorse. On the other end of the call, all he heard was the soft sound of the young woman quietly sobbing. It was all too sudden, and for a moment, she couldn't find the words. The rest of the call became mostly one-sided, with Elias doing most of the talking. He told her how much they had missed her and how happy he was to finally find her. He also spoke about their parents. They weren't even that old, but after losing their

Elias froze completely when he heard the DNA test result.Even though he had expected it and was certain Sharon was his sister, hearing the scientific confirmation still sent a jolt through him. His fingers trembled, and his heart rate spiked. He stood there in a daze for several seconds before he finally regained his senses. His body was tense, lips pressed tight, and his eyes shimmered with the threat of tears. Two decades. 20 years had passed, and now, he had finally found his sister. It felt like a miracle born of pure chance, as if the fates themselves couldn't bear to watch their family stay separated any longer. It was as though that was why his return to the country had led him to her so quickly and effortlessly. After hanging up with Mitch, Elias took a moment to calm the overwhelming surge of emotions. Then, he called Sharon.During those few seconds while waiting for her to pick up, the joy and excitement that had filled him began to give way to worry and fear.Even t
