Sean turned around to take a look at Alice. "I set everything up for you today, and you still blew it. We can't use that trick again. You fell asleep right in front of Elias. How is he supposed to believe that you're hardworking and ambitious now? If you managed to answer me fluently after that, anyone with half a brain would grow suspicious!"

Alice was tongue-tied. She let out a sigh and heard him continue, "Perhaps this is for the best. Even if you managed to fool him for a while and act like a strong, career-driven woman, you'd still slip up eventually.

"If you two end up together, are you going to pretend to be someone you're not for the rest of your life? How are you going to keep up the act when there's no one around to cover for you?"
