Chapter 227

Author: Flower Sock
The moment Gregory spoke, Anathea's pupils constricted in shock.

Not only did Gregory understand Frevancian, but he could speak it too.

That meant he'd heard and understood every word she and Olivia had exchanged earlier. No wonder his expression had been so dark earlier.

Gregory's eyes fixed on her intensely. Her delicate face and her lips, which were flushed from their earlier kiss, only seemed to fuel his anger even more. The words she'd spoken had come from those very lips.

She'd said she didn't like him anymore.

Not only did she no longer love him, she didn't even like him anymore. She was done with him!

How could he remain calm in the face of that?

"Anathea, you said you don't like me anymore. Were you being serious?" Gregory's deep eyes radiated an overwhelming pressure, as if a storm were about to break.

He'd wanted to lash out when he first overheard her words at the banquet.

But when he thought of the time he'd humiliated Anathea in front of Thomas and how her face

Anathea's lips pressed into a thin line as she stared at the bowl of oatmeal."Are you worried that I'd poison you?" Gregory asked when he saw the wariness in her eyes. She made no reply, but the look in her eyes said enough. In her eyes, Gregory had already lost all credibility.Gregory ate the mouthful of oatmeal he'd scooped for her to show it was safe. "See? All clear. Come on, start eating. Mateo said you were a little malnourished. Just have a little bit of oatmeal, even if it's just for our baby's sake.""This baby is mine and has nothing to do with you," Anathea retorted coldly, her hand covering her tummy protectively. "You told Mateo about this?""Don't worry, he knows when to keep his mouth shut." Gregory stirred the oatmeal, his fingers trembling slightly after he heard Anathea laying full claim over the baby and denying any sort of participation from him. She didn't even want to share the baby with him at this point and only cared about cutting ties with him.As

Gregory's hand froze mid-air when his fingers grasped nothing. Slowly drawing back his hand, he asked, "Are you hungry? I'll have Bella whip something up for you."Anathea's expression remained impassive. "I don't want to see you.""What do you feel like having?" Gregory probed gently.Anathea's brows furrowed. "I want you out of this room.""How about oatmeal? The doctor said you needed to stick to a nutritious diet."Anathea's temper flared. "I said I don't want to see you right now! Get out!""Very well. I'll bring up some oatmeal for you." Gregory rose after saying this and headed toward the door.Just as he reached the door, Anathea spoke up. "Gregory."He halted his steps and gave her an expectant look over his shoulders. "Something you'd like to tell me?""There's no point in you behaving like this," she snapped icily. They knew very well that he had leverage against her. So even if he continued to ignore her and left her to her own devices, she wouldn't make a scene.

Mateo probed, "So, how far along is Mrs. Sinclair?"Gregory paused. He hadn't gone with Anathea to her prenatal checkups and wasn't sure how far along the pregnancy was, but he could make a fair guess. "I'd say about 12 weeks.""Alright, then." Mateo nodded. "Seeing as she's pregnant, putting her on a drip to lower her fever may affect the baby. It's best if we use tepid sponging instead. I'll also prescribe a few pregnancy-friendly medications."It's important to let Mrs. Sinclair get as much rest as possible for the time being. She'll need to stick to a nutritious diet too. If you ask me, she looks a little malnourished…"Gregory listened closely to what Mateo said and took notes. After that, Jenny brought a basin of cold water. She wet a towel with it and moved to sponge Anathea."I'll do it," Gregory said, taking the towel.Jenny froze and watched as Gregory gently placed the towel on Anathea's forehead. His free hand then carefully wiped down her arm, and he repeated the pro

Gregory frantically opened the door to the master bedroom to find Anathea lying on her side on the chaise lounge. She was still wearing the clothes he'd torn, and even though she'd straightened her hair, it still looked mussed. A red flush had crept over the fair skin of her face.Gregory hurried over to her. He reached to place a hand on her forehead. It was burning hot to the touch. His breath hitched, and he immediately called Mateo and urged the latter to come as quickly as possible. After that, he grabbed a nightgown and helped Anathea change into it.Anathea's consciousness was on the verge of slipping when she sensed someone taking off her clothes.Mustering what little strength she had left, she gripped the collar of her jacket. When she opened her eyes and saw Gregory before her, she shot him a wary look and demanded hoarsely, "What are you doing?""What do you think I'm doing?" He leashed his temper and exasperation, and though his voice was hard, he softened his tone a

A long moment passed before Gregory let out a breath and glanced at Adrian. He didn't even notice how unsure and tentative he sounded as he asked, "Am I really allowed to like her?"Was he allowed to like someone? Could he truly express such feelings to someone without the help of therapy and medication? The corner of Adrian's mouth twitched into a smile when he heard this. He nodded. "Of course. Anathea is your wife. Of course you're allowed to like her.""But she's Adam's daughter!" Gregory lowered his gaze. Adam had killed his best friends. Adam was his archnemesis, someone he wished he could kill with his own bare hands."Then tell me, did Anathea kill them?" Adrian asked.Gregory shook his head."So, that means Adam is the only one at fault here. What does Anathea have to do with it?" Adrian probed.Gregory's lips pressed into a grim line as his gaze flickered. However, he frowned a second later and argued, "But she used such despicable methods to set me up and trap me—""

Gregory admitted he was jealous. He'd been jealous of Xander when the boy had won over Anathea by playing the victim and putting on an obedient act, and now, he was jealous of Theo for making Anathea light up with only a few words. And yet, when it came to him, Anathea was so cold and distant. Gregory didn't know when she'd stopped giving him real smiles. To think that he would so desperately want the things he'd shunned before, only for Anathea to give them all to Xander and even someone as irrelevant as Theo instead of him.How could Gregory not be jealous? He was going mad with jealousy at this point! But Anathea had questioned whether he even knew how to love someone. She'd ruthlessly pointed out his flaw, enraging him so much that he'd lose control and hurt her.Now that his anger had waned, he was left with immense regret. He'd left the party in a hurry and come to Drunk Elysium to drown his shame in drinks. He refused to face the consequences of his behavior.Adrian saw

Theo stood in place and watched as Anathea left, his emotions all over the place.…After angrily storming out of the party, Gregory had Dexter drop him off at Drunk Elysium, also known as a high-end red-light establishment in Castenea.True to its namesake, Drunk Elysium offered premium alcoholic beverages along with equally premium female escorts. Upon entering the establishment, countless patrons would find themselves lost in paradise and getting drunk not just on liquor but sweet dreams. And yet, Gregory ordered only drinks as he staked a seat at the bar, downing glass after glass. A group of beautiful women who were drawn by his exceptional looks had already swarmed around him, betting on who would succeed in conquering him for the night. In the end, a stunning beauty confidently approached Gregory and stopped before him. "Hey, handsome. You alone?"She was half leaning over the bar counter, her face covered in a layer of delicately applied makeup. Her sultry, cat-like eye

Theo said nothing and only stared at Anathea. Her face was pale, and although she'd pulled the jacket tightly around her, it still failed to hide the marks on her neck. A hole had been ripped through the skirt of her dress too. Any grace of a blooming flower she'd had on the dance floor was gone.Gregory had mercilessly crushed her when she'd just bloomed, and part of all this had been because of Theo."I'm sorry," Theo said, his voice full of guilt as he lowered his head.In truth, he was caught in a dilemma himself. He knew very well that Anathea was Gregory's wife, and as Gregory's best friend, Theo should keep some distance from her. But for some reason, when he found out Anathea had left Gregory, he couldn't help feeling chipper. He'd even secretly gone to Syntherra. However, he couldn't find any trace of Anathea there. So much had happened before he finally saw her again, only for Gregory to swoop her into his arms and carry her away.At that moment, Theo had been seized

But Gregory wasn't satisfied just trampling on Anathea's dignity. He was determined to take away the last bit of affection she had left. When she resisted, he forced it from her.Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, lightning flashed and thunder cracked. Heavy rain poured down, flooding the streets. The trees swayed violently, their leaves scattered and branches almost snapped by the gale.Anathea was like a flower battered by the rain. Her once-beautiful white dress, which had fluttered gracefully as she'd danced in the center of the dance floor, was torn by Gregory's hands. Her carefully styled hair had been yanked loose, falling messily across the couch like crumpled silk."Anathea, you say I don't know how to love. But do that Morgenstein guy and Theo know any better?"He gripped her chin tightly. His voice dug into her like a hundred sharp daggers. He tugged at her dress, tormenting her with every word and movement."Anathea, I've been merciful. I allowed Adam to receive tr
